Hey Anurag,

Oracle Apps definitely has ERP flavour in it, but AFAIK not all Apps come under Enterprise Solutions. From a functional point of view, Oracle Apps has a very good market capitalization in the Finances Sector. It is picking up in the retail vertical also. And opportunity wise, i think the market beckons and there's a lot of money involved in it.

Hey ERP bigwigs... I need a bit of info
I'm currently working in an Indian IT company in Delhi. I have 7 months of workex till date.
I am currently working in PeopleSoft. I just needed a bit of clarification.
Since Oracle has acquired PeopleSoft, do you see the market for PeopleSoft diminishing rapidly in the next 2-3 years? Further, would it be wise to work in PeopleSoft at the moment or switch to another solution?
I see a lot of jobs for PeopleSoft professionals, but still I am a bit anxious.
What do you advise?

Guys, How good is a Oracle course(either Application Developer or Database Administrator) leading to a Oracle certification for freshers. I am thinking of going for a OCP course. I have talked to SQL and Spider Systems in Pune. They talk about placement assistance as well. And which is the better course to go for? From whatever i have researched, the opportunities seem to be equal in both i.e for Application Developer as well as Database Administrator, with more growth opportunities for Developer. Is that true? Please, anyone having any info on this do reply.

What is the your main aim behind the certification ? Land up with a job right ? In that case, I think its a good idea to go for an OCP certification.

Try going to SQL Star. There is one in Bangalore but I am not sure about Pune. These guys are authorized to train you on behalf of Oracle (some Oracle Univ concept).

Application development might open up more doors for you to start with as opposed to DBA positions. So I think you are safe taking that up. But in terms of long term growth DBA might have greater value as its a more niche field and qualified DBAs are very well-paid (upwards of 8-10lakhs with 5+ years exp)

All the best !

Arun

I dunno whether it would be right for me to mention C-DAC here, as it is more of a R&D Organization. But it offers two courses for ERP, SAP per se...
a) Short Term - 1 Month
b) PGDSEM (1 Year - Vision of Creating Functional Specialists)
FYI - I'm persuing PGDSEM

I'll be glad to service any queries on the topic, ERP, SAP, Pvt - Non Pvt Institutes, et al...

Re: Are you thinking of Joining an ERP course????? - 20-04-2006, 04:08 PM

Hi All

I am working as a system analyst. Most of the work in my organization is done in VB/SQL. Since, the original business of the organization is technical support (BPO), most of the work revolves around the same (like Callback management, normal employee management, payroll, sensitive call arrival & service level management information etc.). I am looking forward to groom my knowledge in designing & implementing more complex systems.

Can someone advice if SAP is a good area to venture into ?
If yes, which module would you suggest is hot and is going to stay for some time ?
Also, if you can help me with C-Dac centres near gurgaon, that'd be a great help.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Regards

hey i m a SAP consultant....do u have ne experience in ABAP???if not den doing ABAP certification is veru difficult...coz its totally diff from doing a certification in functional area such as MM...first all ABAP is a technical language of SAP...but u have xperience in MM module so y r u not doing certification in MM....

Again..SAP certifications are very xpensive and not easy to pass....u have to be proficient in ABAP b4 doing ne certification....
