This is good pln dear....... u can even take some unpaid leave , but dnt quit job.

u may clear CAT but it will be very difficult to justify 1 year void in ur CV (n IIMs categorically ask fr explanation if der is any in writing in GD-PI form).

I was in similar situation lst year when i met one of the Cat Coaching industry veteran n he persuaded me not to do so . after IIM interviews i realise hw right he was..........

Anyway, good luck . U cn PM me any further query.

I have a peculiar situation. I scored 98.xx %ile in CAT and 98.xx %ile in XAT this year with about 65-70%ile in quants in both exams even as i worked all the time with no study leave. Such high overalls was not thought of even in my wildest of dreams. But the low sectionals meant no IIM calls for me. Hence i ended up buying very few forms (read very few popular colleges). Even among those colleges i didn't get through even after having tried my best:(. Got called by 3 Symbi colleges, did well in all 3 GD/PIs and to my horror, got rejected there too.

As a saving grace, i did apply and got through at NIA, Pune though it was 'lastest' choice. As a college, NIA is simply superb with a great faculty, good industrial interface and has the advantage of being unique. But i never quite liked the idea of doing anything in insurance and NIA happened only out fear of being left out. And ofcourse there was this fact that Insurance is the blooming sector and with all the money in it, i consoled myself. Now as the date of joining is nearing I'm developing cold feet. I don't know if i wanna go ahead and do MBA in insurance just because thats my only option in MBA.

Sometimes i feel like quitting my very secure job now which is also happens to be very close to my home and preparing for CAT 2009. I know for one thing, if i quit now, i'll give CAT 2009, my kitchen sink. But the unpredictability about CAT is always there.

Now its like 'so near and yet so far'. The admission season has almost come to a close now and here i am contemplating yet another round of attempts even after having scored 98.xx%ile in both CAT and XAT.

What do i do?

well, if you are so unsure about joining insurance at this time, dont go for it. I think one should join a course only if one is 100% sure of what one is doing and wants to do. Also, considering your scores and job, I would suggest you give CAT/XAT this year again and fill some more forms this time! I am saying this keeping in mind your scores without any preparation. All the best!

It depends on your environment as in my case (I am a OBC) my most of relatives think I am very bad in studies and I never worked in Satyam or did my engineering in ECE. This year when I went for SJMSOM GD/PI ...people thought IIT-JEE has no interview ...

I think you people understand what I want to say. Please first see what will be your position after quieting job ....Quieting job is not a big deal ...but handling people is difficult many questions you need to answer every day !!!

Your situation is understandable- quite near yet so far- but dear, doing post graduation has a life long impact- and hence it should be done with enough thought and prudence.

If you are not interested in insurance- never commit the mistake of joining a course just because it is the only admit you have. One year spent in trying for your dream course is far better than 25 years spent in a job you might not like at all.

Since you already have a job- I would suggest continue with it. If you are bored with the current work- try for some role change/work change within the company.

Involve yourself in some extra curricular activities in the company/outside- this would not only break the monotony of the job, it would also add to your profile.

Lastly, due to the unpredictable nature of the Indian MBA entrance system, please have a back up plan ready. Hope for the best- but be prepared for the worst

you should consider quitting the job, if u have good financial support & you really get frustrated out of ur job & want change career otherwise work exp will help to learn more & will be important.
Choose less demanding project if u can.

Re: Should I quit to prepare for CAT?? - 05-08-2009, 10:57 PM

Hi Friends!!..

I am an IT professional with 2.2 years of experience. I surely want to pursue my MBA next year and i want to have all options under the sun. But it is difficult to work and study considering my nature of work. I have seen people working and studying hard, but that depends on their projects. My project does not have a proper schedule and the work depends on the morning mail. So i am not able to plan and dedicate time for my studies. I have decided to quit the job and prepare well for the exams.

I am a mechanical engineering graduate and am not much interested in working in IT which i did for about 2 years and i want to change my line of work ASAP. This is because more and more one is in IT field, more difficult is the chances of changing the line. Since i got advice from many that this is the right time to change your career I have decided to take a break.

I know many would consider it foolish, but by 2010 i had already planned to quit the company for sure. So i thought why not now and prepare for CAT and all other exams. I am also planning to write GMAT by December for the second round of admissions.

One thing that is bothering me is that if i get a good percentile and get through to the interview, the interviewer would naturally ask me why i quit the job for studying and would prefer another person than me and i accept the fact. Even i would do that if i was interviewing

Friends, give me ideas as to what i can do to spend my time useful and which i can show that i have not spent only on studying but did something useful. Basically tackle that question.

I am interested in doing service since i had already been doing it for some time but not in a reputed NGO or something. Should i need to join a NGO and work there part-time may be? Are there any certifications or online work that i can do from home?

My point is
1. Since i have decided surely that IT is not my cup of tea though i perform well there and though i get paid well as of now
2. Since i want to study further and surely next year is the correct time.
3. Since this is the time to take a risk and decide your path rather than at 25 or 26 where you will surely land in another IT job.
Why not quit and get prepared for the question?

Advice me..

Thanks is advance..
