I am a MBA student doing my final year MBA in one of the better tier 2 colleges in south India.I am specializing in marketing and finance. I have a career dilemma..
1.I did my summer internship in one of the leading communication firms in India.I got a PPO from that firm.
2.I have been placed in a leading financial services firm through my campus interview for a higher package.Though it is a financial services firm it is a marketing profile.
On what basis do i make the selection between the two? I am basically from a engineering background with two years of work ex in an international BPO.

Hi there,
This actually depends on 3 things...

1. Financial services - marketing profile..you will need knowledge of the financial services sector, what investment instruments and opportunities are available etc., Even if you dont have this knowledge, you may be given training...In that case, do you have the interest and aptitude?
2. Money...Which of the two offers would have enough money to excite you?
3. Long term...Do you want to explore opportunities in the Finance sector...or get into Marketing communications if you're sure to like it al your life...

While I agreee to Seizonsha, my take on this

1. Fin services firm wil make you go out and sell with stretch targets. Chunk of sal is variable depending on target achievement. Initial sal may be higher, repititive work--sales career. Sell more, grow more. good achvmt bonuses like foreign trips etc.

2. Commn profile--interesting work, less starting pay. Structured growth with time depending on co.
