Aricent Vs. Infosys - 05-10-2007, 12:18 PM

Hi,

I have offers from Infy and Aricent.

For the uninitiateds, Aricent was formerly Flextronics, which in turn was Hughes Software some time back. It's a Telecom Software firm.

My joining with Aricent was initially 5th of Nov, but due to sme internal issues they posponed it to the Jan-March quarter. Exact date of joining hasnt been notified. My profile in Aricent is dat of a test engr.

In Infosys, my joining is likely to be sometime in Nov. They havnt specified nethin abt profile or domain. I've heard that in Infy everything is random, as in, they select ppl randomly after general training and throw them in random domains. So I cant tell much abt the profile I'll be getting there.

The pkge in Aricent is 3.5 lpa, and there's no bond.
In infy the pkge is 2.7 lpa, n I've heard they hav a yr bond applicable from our batch(there used to be no bond before this).

Another thing is dat, in Aricent I'm given a posting of gurgaon, which suits me since I'm based in NCR.
Infy is only in south, so will have to relocate.

Plz guide me, which one shuld I choose!

Join Infy in Nov....enjoy 2 month training in Mysore and come back and join Aricent in January !!!!!!!!!

by that ur work-ex will be 2 months more and also u will learn something in training...as far as profile is concerned aricent offers much better profile then Infy...and opportunities in Telecom sector are immense !!!!!!!!

ps- this only applies if infy doesn't have bond

Hi ,

Infy is no doubt far ahead of Aricent was formerly Flextronics,Parul as far as you are concerned about the location, well Infy has already been established at Chandigarh and is expanding very quickly. So you may get the location as the chandigarh office.

Anyways the exposure you will get in infy is almost incomparable to any other form like Aricient. So i would suggest you to go ahead n join infy.

Best wishes.

I suggest Aricent would be a better choice. They r offering you a specific profile, where in Infy new joinees tend to get lost becaause of huge number.

Rather than going for 2 months stint in Infy, I suggest go for vacation instead. If u leave that soon, it'll be problem for you in case you after few year wants to join infy.

The package is also better. And with time, you'll crave to get back to goto your home town. And Aricent is at your preferred location.

cheers:neutral:

But dun u think sitting at home for such a long time
a.)is inhumanly boring
b.)has a bad impact on me career wise. I mean my I graduated in Jun,07...no?

And won't Infy ppl relieve me, "if" dere's no bond?(I'll have to confirm that from someone).
And most probably(after sme calculation), I think Aricent will be calling me smetime in March...
I dont have a great deal of idea abt things actually...I'm just a bundle of doubts n confusion...??:

Re: Aricent Vs. Infosys - 10-10-2007, 08:42 PM

How about advise from someone who has served both the companies !!!

Well Aricent is much better as far as work is concerned and also the salary and ofcourse it is nearer to your place. Infosys does have a office in Chndg but everyone will tell u that work in that office is not the best.....So, all reasons to join Aricent ... BUT

Did u try to understand the reason why is ur joining delayed ? What if it is delayed further or maybe refused later !!! Point is that this is happening because of deep impact of Ruppee appreciation. Theres a lot going on in IT industry that meets the eye. All companies have big effect of ruppee appreciation but i feel that Infy can handle it better because of its size and large customer base. Also, international travel is more assured in Infy although Aricent also has alot of it.

Therefore, u can take risk...Aricent is better and if u go for 'safe option' join Infy. Or then check this bond thing...how much is the amount ? Join Infy and if Aricent is still taking people after 3/4 months....pay them the money and join Aricent. U will not loose much as far as i think. Also because u will be paying huge in terms of rentals in case u r in Blore or Pune (Infy).

Best of luck to you.

Hi parul ,
Aricent is no doubt a better company than infosys any day. One tends to get lost in the truckloads that infy recruits and hence the possibility of fast promotions is low.
But i am slightly concerned about the role that you have been offered at Aricent. Some test jobs are jus about entering data and recording observations, while some others are among the best profiles available in the company as they involve writing innovative programs to test the all the company's products. So try to find out more about your role at Aricent before you take a decision. 2 months is hardly a bother...if u are so bored try ur hand at at the CAT and the XAT .

Hey Thanks a tonne Man!
Aricent has come up with an online training program for ppl like me.
Guess that ensures our joinings...
My Infy joining is going to be smetime in Nov...am planning to go for it...
Then, when and if Aricent calls to join, will weigh my options and make a decision...
There's a 1 yr bond in Infy against 75K...
Have heard a lot abt training of Infy, guess it will help me...
Moreover, ppl go gaga abt Infy's ambience et al...it would be interesting to witness things first hand...
Since you've been to both the co's, it would be gr8 if you could mark the differences in the work culture and growth prospects in the 2 co's...
Also, if I pay the bond amnt, will Infy provide me with the reqd relieving letter n expeience certific8s etc???
Thanks again!

The profile...???:
My offer letter says its "Test Engr"...every1 I have talked to in the co' says that though it's not as gud as development, it is not going to really kill my career either...so...I guess it won't be that bad...will knw the exact thing only after I join I guess(lotsa ifs there too!)
I AM giving CAT this year...
Just a half-hearted attempt though ,cos I really want to experience work culture before moving towards higher studies...
Thanks a lot for sharing this!

Re: Aricent Vs. Infosys - 10-10-2007, 11:05 PM

I dont think u shud bother about 2 months of experience certificate from Infy. In long run, 2 months dont matter. (Thats from my exp). And Aricent will anyway consider u as fresher.

I think i can tell u best about Testing job at Aricent. U will not be writing 'test programs' though u might have to make big test setups, writing scripting for something like Test automation, run different test cases like UT, SSI, SI, Functional Testing etc etc etc. Assured thing is that

1) There is FULL career in testing at Aricent -AT EQUAL with development. Aricent values testers as much as developers and salaries and designations are same.
2) But just in case u are crazy about development, then u shud choose ur options. I have seen Aricent allowing some testers to move to development if they push for it...but its not guranteed. Actually...theres' no fun in keeping urself in confusion. If u r comfortable with testing, then its ok but otherwise dont take it. Just one observation is that ... international travel comes more easily in testing than in development at Aricent.

Regarding Infy, U shud check about :
Notice period - They might not allow u to leave in less than notice period even if u pay them Bond money. Check with them if there's any notice period during first 6 months ?

At Aricent, work is in Telecom - Protocols, Broadband, GSM, GPRS, WiMax, 3G and what not. Its really really good work at Gurgaon. Infosys...its more of ur luck.
