friend co./family business kind fudging will be caught.
My friend is also considering family business option....his family has big apparel store...good turnover (abt 2 Cr.) ....typical family managed MOM n POP store

He's thinking to show 3yr work-ex in family business instead of showing it in the company actually worked? Since it's his father firm, he can salary slip of any amount, about 40k / month....

now my question is will company accept this salary? will this salary acts as a barometer while deciding his new salary?

Will companies recognize this as legitimate / proper work-ex or they won't consider is as it was in his family business and it can't be verified and they need someone from professionally run comapnies ?
(My friend has got enough knowledge about his family business to answer all question regarding it)

If he is going into an IT company and shows this work ex, its irrelavent. But if he is joining retail outlet, the salary slips may come in as handy as it will not be easy to verify it. And the companies are smart enough to know that if you have work ex in the family business, it may be fake and there are no chances of verifying it.

1. First advise your friend that 'Honesty is the best policy' still holds good even today. secondly
'The Lift to Success is Out of Order. He has to take the stairs, one step at a time'.
Thirdly, its stupid to think the fellow/s sitting on the other side of the interview table are fools. There is no short cuts. He has to work is way up.
Family business salary slips are not given enough value. will be discounted. If he is aware of the nuances of running an apparel store including budgets, customs, excise, taxes, and other sales/distribution related issues, will come handy in applying to retail co.s. Also the background checks will be minimal or none unlike SW/IT/ITeS co.s.

However for IT/ITeS co.s background checks will be rigorous, family business experience in retail hold no value. As i mentioned in my earlier post 3rd party co.s go to registrar of co.s and sift thru thousands of co.s names etc to find out down to registration/incorporation details etc. Most co.s go for last 2 employments, some for all previous employment.

My advise will be to tell the truth. If your friend wants to fast track his career let him go for 1 year MBA from ISB or do a regular MBA.

As correctly said by Arun, no amount of Background check is going to help as u can sue your company if it divulges your salary.. But then the ways you can get caught are:

1. Companies ask for your pay-slips..

2. If u by hook or by crook, can arrange fake pay-slips, then you will get caught while furnishing Form 16B.

3. If u have still managed to get away without any harm, the problem is everyone has a rough idea at what designation what payscales are offered in that particular company.. So, you will definitely invite raised eyebrows.. Not a good thing at all. Might need to do a lot of justification to the HR folks.

4. If you can still convince them, you are a genius. What is stopping you from faking even work-experience and your degree. You can easily bag a post of Project Lead or Manager by showing extra work-ex

All said and done, Manipulating your salary details do not have much impact. The reason being most companies have slabs for particular roles. So no matter what u show in your prior salary they won't pay u outside this slab..

Besides, whatever leverage of a few thousands you get by faking salary slips, you can easily get otherwise by remarking that I need extra benefits to be sure about the jump.. Or I am not a job-hopper and hence I need extra premium to jump the ship so that I can commit to XXX for a longer time.. It will go down with the authorities in concern better than a fake slip...
