MBA second time - 15-02-2007, 01:58 PM

Hello Everyone,

I want to pursue a second MBA from India, a one year program. Want to focus on ISB. Will be writing my GMAT next year. Currently I am working with Satyam in Chennai. My reason for pursuing a second MBA is that I am not getting the right kind of job profile. A brief about myself:

- Work Exp: 2.5 years in Software sales & pre sales ( No coding exp)
- B. Tech, Information Technology from Vellore Engg. College: 66%
- PGDM Marketing, Indian Institute of Modern Management, Pune: 68%

Can anybody advice me on this.

Thanks in advance

what advice you need ... be specific

whether you should do a second MBA - yes you can , its not a crime
whether your profile is good enough - you must check the ISB threads and GMAT section for more inputs , look out for ISB thread here

Hi Puneet,

Thanks for the reply. I wanted to know that: is ISB open to candidates who want to pursue a second MBA? I am sure they will ask this in the interview. Also did not find any information in any of the threads regarding GD & PI experiences of ISB. If there are any threads on this, please do let me know.

Hi Saurav,
I guess I got a partner on same boat.. I have 4 yrs work ex and looking for taking up second valuable and powerful MBA ( yes! from world class inst). even i have realised the value of such MBA with more work ex to scale up to safe senior positions in todays corp world.. I was suggested to look at MBA from ISB or /PGPX from IIMA.. initially i was trying to aim at 2 yrs PG courses at the best schools..now I think its better to look at 1 yrs courses from ISB or similar.. but there should be a solid reason for answering interview questions on same...I just saw that in ISB site too./.
what do you say..

rgds, sudhir

Hi Saurav,

Our problems in career seems to be the same....I have done my BSc in Computers and MBA in Marketing from Osmania University...I always cribbed on my MBA as its no more than a three letter word and a certificate that i got...I think we both can aim the la belle da creme schools which not only give as a good launchpad but also some professional grooming that we lack from tie 2 schools...

I somewhere read that MBA has a got a shelf life of 7 -8 years...so it means even its good to have an MBA every 7-8 years to be on top of fundamentals of the modern businesses...afterall its the question of stamina...

ISB is definetely a viable option and I don't think they ll stop us...Instead we can always target top US B-schools which is always better .....

Just don't have prejudices too much...Go :grab:

Guys, ROI wise ISB is a gud option. Best option will be IMD-Lausanne 1-year course but is pricey. Some canadaian schools and EU schools also offer 1-year MBA.

Hey All,

Need some advice on 2nd MBA and realistic options that could be open for me. As far as my profile goes ...I did my engg from a pvt institute and then worked for a cpl of years in the Technology/Consulting side of a consulting firm of repute. Did my MBA from IIT Delhi and since then have been working as a senior business analyst in a top pharma analytics firm for the past 2 years. So all in all over 3 years experience for me at the moment.

Any advice is welcome

Thanks much !

You need to think why you require a second MBA. IIT Delhi offers a good MBA (The brand). Amongst the reasons for a second MBA could be--

1. Dissatisfaction with your present work/emoluments.
2. A desire to go for a switch of specialization.
3. Impediments in promotions
4. A need to update your skillset, for this consider an executive MBA (Check top B-School work-ex. year/s requirements for pursuing an exec. MBA).
