Mica’s Retail Management Programme -
12-02-2007, 02:46 AM
Hi Guys
I am Gaurav Sethi from Mumbai.
I have heard about the Retail Management programme at MICA The current batch is the 2nd batch of retail at MICA. The last batch is already in the industry, working at significant positions in top notch organizations like Ernst & Young, technopak advisory, pantaloons, reliance retail, titan industries, café coffee day, land mark group. The current batch is a one and a half year residential programme and the uniqueness of the programme lies in its eclectic pedagogy. Apparently, they toured all over India as well as abroad in countries like Singapore, Malaysia & Thailand. I have heard that they are a small batch of 15-20 students and apparently they all got awesome responses from various retail organizations even for their 2 month internship. Apparently they had over 100 internship offers for the batch, including international offers. I think they should also be having their placements sometime during March or April.
I have gone thru other retail management course curriculum of colleges like NMIMS and Welingkar and I am really confused if I should join this course. MICA is definitely my top priority but I want a second opinion.

Hey dude
even i have heard a lot about the mica retail programme. i think they have some affiliation with retailers association of India (RAI). I guess the course must be good considering its MICA. So it wouldnt be a bad bet. the deal with NMIMS is that it is the 1st year to the course and MICA's retail programme already has one batch in the industry. but dude i think the highlight is the international tour. imagine the exposure they are getting. so i think international placements shouldn't be a problem for them.

MICA is run by Anil Ambani group with big retail plans. Am sure Mukesh may also recruit. All this will add to the course.

Retail as a career is slow in growth (vis regular MBA courses) inspite of the sector growth. You need to stay put and work hard to get up. In due course salary will par. Experience in US/European/Gulf organized retail(both front end and SCM) will add tremendous value to career and faster growth.
