Technical Analyst in Evalueserve(EVS) - 24-09-2006, 09:57 AM

Hi All

Recently I got an offer from EVS Shanghai office as a technical analyst.
But I totally have no idea about what kind of work a technical analyst does.
From other posts regarding this company and position, I feel that it does some IP related work and is extremingly boring.
Could any one describe how it is like in EVS Indian?
If someone happens to know the situation in China, that will be much better.
Thanks.

Buddy, techical analysts usually analyze share/scrip (market) performances over a period of time using some tool like 'Metastock'. this leads to predicting the shares behaviour and give a buy/sell/wait advise to clients. its an investment advisory assisance job. tech analysts give feedforward to I-Bankers.

btw u have got a job without having an idea of job description. what kind of interview process you underwent.

Dude,
I'll put it in very simple terms...
Fundamental Analysis tells you what to buy
&
Technical analysis tells you when to buy.
Charles dow Formulated the Dow theory, which is the basis of technical analysis.
There are many techniques like trends analysis, candlestick analysis, Charting patterns, Elliot wave analysis etc.
Its quite abstract and you learn by practice.
By the way, how were you given the role if you didn't know anything abt technical analysis???

PS: Ever heard of Google.com ???

Any way, thanks for your replies.
They described this role as following in their want ad.

Responsibilities:
1.Data collection through secondary and selective primary research;
2.Study patent documents in related fields;
3.Prepare specified parts of deliverables e.g. reports in word or PowerPoint or Excel spreadsheets;
4.Perform specified analyses under guidance from senior colleagues;
5.Active participation in and contribution to team discussion on problem solving, brainstorming, effective approaches to deal with project-specific issues, etc.

It seems much different with what you described above.
I hope someone could let me know its characteristics, what kind of people suit this position, and what kind of career path it may follow, etc.
Thanks.

I dont mean to spam this thread neither do I intend to be rude. BUT How can you expect any help from anybody unless you tell us something about yourself, the interview process? you are saying you got the job offer, didnt you ask them during the interview about the responsibilities and so on!

What a technical analyst does is precisely what the others have mentioned, from your profile it looks like you are doing secondary research for a technical analyst. And yes - GOOGLE!

jangkwon, it seems the profile is more to give inputs for business analysts or secondary research for data collection, report and ppt presentation using the analysis done by tech analysts.
also involvement of patent docs tell your profile is not exactly limited to financial and you may require to assist legal process outsourcing also.
