Accenture vs Infosys - 03-09-2006, 02:56 PM

Hi everyone,

I am a Computer Science fresher 2006 pass out. I have received offers from both Accenture and Infosys. They havent sent me joining dates as of yet. I am really confused on which company to join since both of them seem to be big shots.

I would really appreciate it someone could tell me the advantages and disadvantages of both so that i will be able to make a decision. The joining dates may be sent to me very soon so i need to make a decision fast.

Salary package seems to be similar at 17K per month but heard that Infy now has hiked it to 22K. So plz help me.

Eagerly waiting for a reply.

Anil

I work at Infosys. I'll say ACCENTURE ALL THE WAY!!!!! Don't think twice, don't listen to crap and crappy stories. ACCENTURE is the way to go, blindfolded.

Infy is a real good bet for someone who is not from IIT, REC or BITs. All other companies diffrentiates based on which college you are from.

And Infosys is a socialist organization. So survival is easy. No matter what you do, Infosys never kicks anyone out. And if you are patient , you will eventually go onsite , where you can earn lot of money. The chap who posted earlier probably has been in Infosys for less than 3 years and not got an onsite oppurtunity yet.

AFAIK Accenture India is mostly backend works and support works . (Correct me if I am wrong)
Accenture US is undoubtedly a world class organisation.
Infy might be better considering their excellent training program and more learning prospects . Their Mysore training campus is good.
Infact the value addition gained will be at par like - say an MBA insti will be treating them equal...
Infy is my recommendation

Dude, you need to do your home work before jumping into this. Consider the following:
1) Try and find out what practice they are gonna push you in after the initial training. Go for the one with indications of SAP, Siebel, Oracle Apps and such other business apps.
(this holds in case ur not a java/C nut!)
2) Check the location offered by each. Go for the one which offers Bangalore as you would in all probability be involved in "lotsa visibilty" work.
3) Still undecided, use the simple mantra which will always keep you happy- better money
4) Finally, keep looking! Infy and Acc are not the end of the world.

cheers!

Learn this, no company is bad... it's only when we get into it, and we see others in greener pastures, we start abusing our own company.

Regarding your work, posting location, if you a fresher, you are going to have no idea about it till you finish your training (atleast in infy that's the status)
First difference, Infosys is indian based, Accenture is MNC (but it pays in indian terms only so not a big adv!) My knowledge of Accenture stops there. Period.
Regarding Infosys,
as Raven mentioned, if you are looking for onsite (read:to make money) you need to be patient for the first two years and work hard during that period.
Campuses are definitely a big go go,

If you are going to look for mba studies soon, then infosys would be a better bet.... else go for accenture You can always get back into infy later

"no company is bad" -> not sure what this means. There are always parameters using which you rate companies as "bad" or "good" relative to each other.
Companies always disclose the location you would be working in eventually and when they do you can always request for a particular location giving a satisfactory reason.
Companies may not disclose the nature of work initially but you can always n/w with seniors if you have contacts.
Bottomline is this: Ask! Try to get as much data as possible and then make an informed decision.
