this exam carries 8 credits. im thinking of implementing it in java or related technology. I have been told to avoid anything in visual basic as they, according to our guide, make 4th rate projects.

Software PGites plz respond. Have to submit synopsis before FMS exam.

it is a project in BARC to create a huge db for their records . Even though the languages n db used r quite simple to handle but its still giving me nightmares

Hey tats simple.

Define a connection object.U need to specify the DB source , Username and Passwd.
Once the connection is established u can pass a query along wit the Connection object to get the data in a record set and process it.

MATLAB is one of the easiest softwares to learn.. I don't know who told u that it is difficult.....
Many tutorials are available in net..(just google it)..
The help section in MATLAB is self explanatory itself..
try playing around/experimenting ... you can learn within a week..
