Re: Tips for 1st Job - 16-06-2008, 08:58 AM

1) Learn to Adjust.

Now,as you will be moving for the first time in the corporate environment, let me tel u this, there will be times when you would not be happy with ur boss, team mates, work but you will have to adjust big time to survive, you will have to deal with them no matter what.

2) Say Yes even if you wanna say NO..

Now,I am not saying that you say yes every time you think you should say no,but try to say no in rarest of rarest cases, cause as you know nobody likes to say no,and least of your boss..

3)Patience.

This is also one of the must quality at work, you have to wait for the right time and fight it out for yourselves @work cause only you are there for yourselves.

4)More of Smartwork along with Hardwork(Ratio 70:30..)

5)Always keep a Smile.

Now I am in no way saying that you keep on smiling for no reason but just have a pleasant and a positive attitude,so that people love to be around you.

6) When in Doub't which option to take, take the option that you dont like to.
(wasn't there a thinker who said "we should take the road less travelled..)

This will do for the time being,I will keep on adding on it.

Thanks

Use your discretion on this one. If you keep saying 'Yes' too much will land on your plate and quality of work may suffer. Do not agree to something of which you are not sure of delivering with reasonable quality and within a reasonable time limit. This saying "Yes" was a major probelem with Indian It companies. When dealing with Europeans, they would agree to everything the customer asks for. Then the project manager flog the poor developer and make them work overtime and still are unable to meet the target. So the European customer feels they have not received good quality work and feel dispsoointed. The developeres hate the cutormer for being insensitive and no being happy even though they stretched themselves to the limits. The problem is the customer never knew how much the developers worked. Same is the case in office. Unless you say so your boss will never know how much overloaded with work you are.

Re: Tips for 1st Job - 16-06-2008, 03:05 PM

Excess of everything is bad and that goes for saying yes also, thats why i had mentioned that say yes but not at all times, but exercise caution in saying no..,cause i think that as a fresher if you are joining a organization or a project during the formative first year at office you are sometimes bound to get work which lets say not up to your expectations, but if you start saying no to reapeatedly it may soon start affecting your rapport within your team,so what i meant was that try to be as reasonable as possible..and as far as boss not knowing how mcuh of the work you have done i guess it is taken care by my tip 4..."More of Smartwork along with Hardwork".

Boss, heard of "The 48 Laws of Power"? Just go through 'em once. I'd suggest don't try playing the tricks on others, just be smart enough to know when you are on the receiving end. BTW, best of luck.

Today every org. is Self service kind.... You got to help urself and keep reading the "How to's"...
Sware by the new hires guide.....if there is nothing like that be a good smartian and start writing pointers for ppl who will come after you.
Let you manager know all the correspondence to the various vendors you job requires youo to be in touch with.
Dont mess the training, at least get a hang of things before you are thrown at the clients mercy...
Keep your fone on a low tone. Talk in hushed tones as the open work env enables all on the floor to hear what you are talking.
more later
and yeah "listen" not only hear.......

Adios

good wishes and regards
