Perhaps this might differ from vertical/department.

Which firm are you working for? I would say that this is a unique practice. This year Infosys Technologies hired around 300 MBAs for the ES and Finacle departments - from campuses alone. And many more in lateral positions.

Finance and esp Operations is highly suitable in the areas you mention. Again, Marketing and HR will also suffice. But HR folks go straight to SAP/PeopleSoft etc practices. Marketing guys have the added opportunity to try for BD and sales, though nothing stops Finance people to try for the same.

excellent post ida. thx you really cleared my doubts.

And IT firms dont give extra weigtage to Systems major students over other streams.

I would recommend Finance and Operations as suitable areas for folks targetting IT cos.
hi folks,
i got damn confused reading this post.
does it mean that a B.E/Btech (COMPUTER) person should not go in for MBA (Systems) as he has no extra weightage for it. Also he learns the same thing here again.
Instead he should go in for Mktg/Fin as it"l' broaden his choices.

Exp. junta pls comment.

Hi,

It really depends on what you want from your MBA. With my IT background, computers and stuff came naturally to me and I enjouyed it .... but going for non-computer stuff in MBA gave me an opportunity to learn much more (read Value Addition). IMHO - In the interview CS/IT grads are better off by leveraging their graduation and mba together as a larger whole.

As far as IT co.s are concerned I can vouch for the fact that they treat all MBA streams equal i.e. a Systems major will not make you more attractive than a Finance or Operations major.

Hi Kamal,

Your profile and choice of major area is good enough for IT co.s. Having a systems major for you makes sense as you dont have any such thing in your graduation. The majority of MBAs being picked up by IT firms are engineers, but there are quite a few commerce people as well.

NCFM certifications are good for your profile so keep at it.

Hi Kamal,

There is "Certifications for profile building" thread elsewhere in this forum. Do check it out and see which certifications you want to try!

Re: MBA Systems - Have done MBA in Systems and is rocking today... - 13-11-2006, 07:03 AM

i Have started a Thread in Career-discussions asking the following question. But i guess the experienced junta is right here in this thread to answer my query....

Hope to get some feedback...
"
I am a Graduate in IT, pursuing Marketing and IT as specialisation from Indian Business Academy, B'lore. I have always scored more than 65% including my MBA. I am an Fresher without any work experience.

I am joining Redington India as an Management Trainee ( Sales). It is SCM Solution provider, IT Hardware and software distributor, [ Redington - End to End SCM Solutions!!! ].
After training i will handle key accounts, develop and manage the channel and accounts. Its a pure sales job.

I want to be a Business Analyst sometime in my career. Preferably in IT biggies like Infosys or Wipro.

Can i take a shift to a role of BA from Sales role?
How do i prepare myself to achieve my target? i.e. be a BA
What value addition can i make out of this job in hand, if i am looking the role of BA?
Is it a step in the right direction?
If no, what should i do??which role i should look for n IT Co then???
Plz give me suggestion.... Thanks
"
