Hi

I am a medicine graduate. Have long nurtured a dream to be a Health Sector Entrepreneur, but can't find any good B-schools in India who can help me in achieving my dream. Seems like they just can't digest the thought that good doctors can be good entrepreneurs also. All they can do is advise me to get into Masters in Health Administration. Anyways, I've checked out the curriculum of lots of B-schools in US & Europe, and now I feel the problem of abundance. My GMAT score is 730 with AWA 6 and have cleared CAT twice with more than 98 %tile, but turned down admission offers twice from three top-rung B-schools in India. I have a 2 year work-ex in Health Insurance and am currently working since 6 months with a group as part of its market research and analysis and product development as Associate. I had enquired at 3 B-schools which have Health Sector MBA, and could list them out for you if you wish. I just can't decide which will be the best school for me. Is it that all schools famous for entrepreneurship (Babson included) are good enough? Or should I stick to the old criterion of going for the best available? Secondly, finances will definitely be an issue, so if I give you the names of 5-6 colleges which are ready to give me a scholarship, will you please please plzzzzzzzz help Jeremy? I am in such a soup I just can't find help. Can you please guide me to the best school? I can give you all further details you want me to, to help me out.
Thanks for the efforts

I've got 66% in bachelors degree (agriculture) and 76% in post graduate degree (agriculture) from Agra university(DR.Br.AMBEDKAR UNIVERSITY,AGRA),India.

are these percentages sufficient to get admitted into the top B-schools of USA ?

Thank you for your inquiry.

You raise a very valid concern with the GMAT's longevity. It is true that the score itself is valid for five years, but schools tend to prefer a more current version. This is not to suggest that a 750 will suddenly become useless, but it will have more impact nearer to the date that you anticipate applying. Still, if you plan to matriculate in 3-4 years, you will be applying in 2-3, so it should not be that much of a hazard to take it now. If you have the time, I would go for it.

Sincerely,

As, I am in the final year and am not having much to study, so I thought of giving the gmat nowitself say in next 3-4 months after prep.
I know tat the gmat score is valid for 5 years, but i have also heard from some unreliable sources tat the value of the score depreciates after the initial 1-2 years.

Thank you for your inquiry.

At MBA Mission, we preach the gospel of differentiation -- candidates who discover their unique attributes succeed. In your case, you have a variety of remarkably differentiable points. I have seen many candidates over the years, but your legal experience seems to be quite distinct -- you have academic, practical and faculty experience, all of which seems to point to you performing at very high levels. This, combined with a 710 GMAT, truly points to you being a very strong candidate.

I am confident that if you put the time and effort into your applications and you are able to get standout references that you will be able to find a home among a top-ten school.

If you would like to discuss your candidacy in depth, please feel free to fill out a free consultation form on our website.

Sincerely,

Beforeall, congratulations for taking time out of your schedule and answering anxious candidates!

I'd request you to kindly assess my chances at top 20 schools in US and Europe considering that I'd be applying for classes starting in Fall 2009.

Sex: M ; Age: 25

Education: 5 year integrated law course from NUJS, consistently ranked as one of the top three law schools in the country (acceptance less than 3 percent). I concentrated on business and financial laws in my optionals. I am ranked in top 25 in a batch of 70 students. I'd attribute my average acad to the fact that I was always an active participant in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities (the toppers have practically nothing to show here; the programme was too rigorous as evidenced by the fact that 15 from our class dropped out).

Additionally, 7 of my project papers have been published (highest in my class) including one in FICCI's (india's apex commerce body) annual entertainment law journal.

was part of the research team of the School of Criminal Justice and Administration constituted for the drafting of The Economic Offences Code (A UNDP project supervised by the Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance, Government of India) wherein my report on Shortcomings in Various Economic Legislations constituted a part of the final report.

I have always been an active member of the School of Economic and Business Laws and contributed actively to various events organized by it.

Extra-curricular: I excelled in moot courts which demands excellent oratory skills. I have further been an active member of our legal aid clinic providing legal assistance to the under-privileged in rural west bengal. i've always been passionate about animal rights which i hope to highlight. last, but not the least, i have consistently represented my school and then university in cricket and football tournaments.

GMAT: 710

Work: Have been working since April 2006 in India's biggest law firm (rated consistently by Euromoney as the best in india and one of the best independent lawfirms in the world) in their capital markets practice group. I'd consider my responsibilities at the law firm to be considerably more than what a typical associate at my level gets.

My responsibilities include:
  1. Structuring various public and private capital markets transactions including IPOs, ADRs and GDRs, Follow-on offers, private equity deals, External Commercial Borrowings etc,
  2. Conducting due diligence, drafting offer documents, prospectus, diligence reports, etc
  3. Negotiating various commercial arrangements including investment agreements, underwriting agreements, syndicate agreements etc
The experience I cherish most has been the evolution of a new practice area for the Firm, namely, anti-trust and international trade law group, in which I was intimately involved.

However, I'd be leaving this job and joining a prestigious law school as its faculty member starting january. I believe I'll have more opportunities to demonstrate my leadership potential in my new role.

I've refrained from detailing every aspect of my education and my career in the post. However, I believe it has been an interesting and enjoyable one and an MBA, for me, marks a natural progression.

I would be grateful if you could provide me with your inputs.

Thanks and Regards

Thank you for your inquiry.

I must apologize. My knowledge of schools outside of North America and Europe is not great.

Robin,

I enjoyed your post -- always nice to get a laugh while I am responding.

While you come from the deaded engineering/tech background, you seem to have excelled and thus accelerated. The fact that you can boast a whopping four promotions and that you are the youngest member of your team speaks volumes about you. Further, your 770 and your WHO film really add diversity to an already impressive story.

I think that the European schools should be in reach for you.

Sincerely,
Jeremy Shinewald

Here is my profile.

My Background: 27 |Indian | IT |Male

* Ok Academics 76% in my 10th class, 72% in class 12th both from state boards. National merit scholarship holder for 10th exam. 65 % (First Class) in my undergrad engineering course. Got a rank of 8 in the engineering entrance exam in which around 40,000 candidates appeared.

* During the final year of my undergrad degree, I was recruited by Indian IT major company (TCS). Worked with TCS for 2 and a half years in capacity of Database Administrator. Earned one promotion during this time.

* Joined a giant US IT company as a Technical Analyst and have earned four promotions in as many years and now I work as a manager and manage a team of 32 analysts that is distributed across five continents. (North America,Europe,Africa, Asia, South America). I am the youngest member of the team that I manage.

* Was part of the team that set up Oracle ERP centers in Santiago,Cairo, Hyderabad and Noida.

* GMAT scores of 770 (2007) and 640 (2005). First attempt was a non-serious one as my weekends were getting a little too liquor-friendly for my liking and I wanted an alternative way to invest my time. Needless to say who won ?

Extra-Curricular:

* Directing short-films which primarily focus on the field of Health care. Won the first prize for a documentary in 2-minute international short film competition organized by WHO.

* Member of the college Rock band and toured and performed in 15 different states in India.

* Runner-up in Tennis at University level.

* Won 7 national level quiz competitions.

* Represented the college in various cricket tournaments.

Goal :

Entrepreneurship. I want to start my own company and for that I want to learn my theory. But can't afford to spend two years on learning the concepts. So, I am primarily targeting the European schools. Any chance of me making it to INSEAD/LBS/IMD ? Which of the aforementioned bullet points should I try to project as the face of my perceived persona (through the essays) for these three colleges.
