GD/PI rounds at SPJCM - 22-01-2008, 11:33 PM

GD/PI and other rounds involved in the selection process...!

It will have the following rounds..!

1. Case study /Essay writting

2. Group discussion.

3. Pannel interview.( Elimination round)

4. Interview with Director.( Only for those who clear the round 3)

This has been the process so far ..! Hope its remains the same this time too

One very imp observation. In Jan batch there were cases where thoes who were not called for round 4 also got Final admit. But the general notion is that if you not called for Round 4 u r almost OUT.

The Final round 4 is also an elimination round , here also ppl get emiminated.

The entire process usually lasts for 5-6 hrs:

1. First you will begin with a Case study/Essay writting( 20 min for case study & 10 min each for 2 essays)
2. Than you will be divided in a group of 7-8 ppl and guided to different GD/PI rooms. ( GD lasts for 10 - 15 min)
3. Once done with GD , you will be guided to a place where your documents will be verified, Simultaneously ppl will be called in for the interviews one by one( Pannel interview)
4. Once done with Pannel interview, Within 5-10 min a lady will appear and either say ThankU " U are done for the day" OR she will she will guide you to the Directors room , where the man himself will be waiting for you , for the final assault.

Topics for Case Study....!!! - 22-01-2008, 11:35 PM

Here are some of the case study topics:

They are just an indicative of what kind of topics were given in Jan evaluations & may be diffirent for June evaluations. So make sure u take a holistic approach and gather info on similar such topics.

Further I strongly urge each aspirant to have a look at the approach one should follow to frame your case study. It’s not just the content u write but also how u writes it.
One can take the following approach:
i.Problem statement:
Recommended Solution 1 with pros and cons
Recommended solution 2 with pros and cons
ii.Solution you recommend ( 1 Or 2) and why
iii.Conclusion.

Topics:

1. Family business - how to handle that
2. Labour issues
3. Employees on strike
4. A firm lacks in IT infrastructure, you being one of the director have to convince the
other members on the board. If they agree what will be your immediate execution
strategy.
5. As CEO steps you should take to prevent any financial frauds/irregularities in your
company.
6. Explain atleast 5 such principles that help in distinguishing a great organization
from a not so good organization

Topics for Essay

Here are some of the Essay topics:2 Essays 100 words each

They are just an indicative of what kind of topics were given in Jan evaluations & may or may not come in June evaluations. So make sure u take a holistic approach and gather info on similar such topics.

Well there is no specific approach here, just be honest and lucid.

Topics :

1. Personal achievement
2. Professional achievement
3. Personal Strengths and weakness
4. How has education helped you?
5. Leadership experience what have learned.
6. Why MBA and Why now.
7. What are your short term and long term plans after MBA
8. Who is your Role model & why?
9. Innovative solution u have proposed in your project

Topics are generally based on what you have done in your past & could come from both personal & professional arena.

Topics for Group discussion...!!! - 22-01-2008, 11:37 PM

Here are some of the Group discussion topics:

They are just an indicative of what kind of topics were given in Jan evaluations & may be different for June evaluations. So make sure u take a holistic approach and gather info on similar such topics.

Further I strongly urge each aspirant to have a look at the approach one should follow in GD. Its better to speak less and give few strong points instead of blabbering some nonsense.

Though Its always positive to start a GD but this advantage can horribly go wrong if u wrongly interpreted the topic or started speaking some bullshit make sure your opening statement is a good enough to lay a strong foundation for the rest 15 min. So take a minute understand what is expected out of the topic and than start speaking.

In case you are not aware of the topic, No issues, just let other speak and be smart enough to butt in at latter point with your perspective once u managed to get a cue.
Believe me just one strong point conveyed well is what you need to be a star

Topics:

1.Borderless World
2.Management Education, is it necessary?
3.Globalization is good or bad.
4.Internet Destroys or builds relations
5.Success and human relationship
6.Commercialization of health care industry

Interview:-) - 22-01-2008, 11:43 PM

The big daddy of all.....I think interview is fun as long as you think of it that way.
So what do you really need to sail through, a settler CAT/GMAT/SPJAT score, Strong acads, a lot of experience, Strong communication, presentation & writting skills, Pleasing personality and what not Huh...! But honestly most of us don’t have all the strong qualities do we?, well not really . We might have enough of something but equally lack in something else. So what do we do?

Here is the simple rule:
Play around your strength, be honest to yourself and once u are, u will speak with conviction and that’s what interviewer is looking for.

Questions:
1. Tell us about yourself? (Most imp questions, if you can tell them who you are, Boss that’s it, half the battle is won). here plz finish your response within 2-3 min, Tell very briefly about education than talk about your profession, your achievements but follow up with examples( V.v imp), and your future aspirations.)...not necessarily in the above order, but be coherent and connect everything well.
2. Why MBA and Why Now?
3. Long and short term goals.
4. Questions related to your Domain?
5. Questions related to your company? Like org structure, competitors etc.
6. Questions related to the Specialization you have chosen (for Eg if an IT guy chooses Finance, than be ready to support your decision with good knowledge about finance, certification etc ( a good value add) to support your decision)
7. Questions specific to the information you have provided in your application( Be very through about what you have written in your application, so don’t just write anything for the sake of filling space, be sure and be ready to get quizzed on the info you have provided).

Last but not the least , i have realized there is no perfect or the right answer to the interview questions, Its just how u go about it, how you sell yourself, how u glorify your strengths while keeping the bad and ugly under the veil.
Practice my dear friends is the word of wisdom!Practice ur interview.!

All the Best Everyone.. Hope to see you all in May/June 08 batch...

Anees..!!!

Do all the process happen on the same day

Whats the usual duration of the process

If i apply on a day, how long ll it take for the ADCOM to get back to me to say whether I have been selected for the GDPI or not

And once my GD is over how long ll it take to get the results

Plz answer

If you have the belief to choose your road
If you have the courage to stay on it
If you have the conviction to surmount the rough stretches
If you do..you will find the road begins to follow you
