Gave my GMAT on 20th July at delhi center and scored 770 and a 6 on awa. Pg has been an important part of my preparation all along, and people like Keya were a strong inspiration, always. Having done with GMAT i would like to share my experience with all of you who might be interested.
profile and background - i am a 2006 IIT graduate in mechanical engineering, working in Italy in a product development project. already apeared for CAT, needless to say didnt fare good enough on one day that matters. Not yet decided on what to do next, will apply next year most probably.
20th july - started from home about 2 hours prior to my appointment. reached the center and made sure they werent giving entry before 12:30 for my 1:15 appointment. Then went to Nirula' to have some stimulant, settled on cold coffee. Returned to center at 12:30 but the guy didnt let anyone in before 12:45. So sweated outside as they dont have any waiting area and was rather amused to see some gals revising the OG 11
After doing the formalities, and a mugshot with my unruly hair ( the photograph accompanies your score report to b-schools ), was shown my terminal ( you can have unlimited number of those checkered sheets for rough work)
AWA prior to gmat had written 4 essays in total for practice but had grasped well what exactly is required. An eloborate vocabulary, proper use of key words, spell check, some real life examples and grammatical propriety is the key, i guess. You need to maintain the flow and be reasonable, goes without saying
USE YOUR BREAK - take some deep breaths, have whatever you brought to eat to compensate for your blood sugar level. energy drinks, chocolates whatever you think works for you and in the end dont forget to splash your face with some cold water, you are in for next 75 minutes you know.
Quant , no problems there. the best quant section i ever came across. The questions were good, had less boobytraps and required thinking, never for once used the rough sheets in the whole section. approportion your time well, i completed my test 19 minutes before, a silly mistake can cost you that q51. Though i would have loved to have probability questions but save 1 i got nothing
USE YOUR BREAK
verbal , started with sc, the 5/6 was RC. Four RC in total, one on science. Till about 15th questions things went well, then got a monstrous CR, stared at it dumbfounded for atleast 5 minutes and picked one uncertainly. I think that was the first i got wrong, must have been others as well. Wasnt interested in the test anymore, had somehow lost all vigour by that one question, was just interested in finishing and going back. Was quite casual and mechanical with rest of the questions, and in the end ended with 2-3 points lower than what i expected in Verbal. BY the 35 th question was in a tight spot, tried to pick randomly there and am isure that was another wrong, but finished the section with 30 secs to spare.
kept on klicking through all the screens, till it asked me if i wanted to accept score. hesitated for a fraction of a second and without thinking clicked yes. Didnt feel a thing on seeing the numbers, was just hungry and glad to be done with it. Grabbed the report sheet from outside and made a beeline for home
was able to acess my awa scores 4 days later. How i prepared, will be in the next post. EastSouthNorthWest....and my boy you are back to square one! the assortment

Congrats on the great score
ATB with apping. Now, when we fought, you had that eye of the tiger, man; the edge! And now you gotta get it back, and the way to get it back is to go back to the beginning. You know what I mean?See that look in their eyes, Rock? You gotta get that look back, Rock. Eye of the tiger, man. | | | | | The Following User Says Thank You to HarshaRocks For This Useful Post:

@CC
thanks!
good luck to you too, the nightmares have found their way rather early with you
@HR
thanks dude
@ratheen11
no, the real GMAT quant was not like that in OG, this i had already known from recounts of people i came across. It wasnt difficult if you know the concepts but wasnt certainly as stupid as it seems in OG, a document like Manhattan GMAT archive is something i would recommend. Though Kaplan 800 had some good questions as well but the questions in GMAT what i feel is are more straightforward (relatively speaking, offcourse) EastSouthNorthWest....and my boy you are back to square one! the assortment | | | | | The Following User Says Thank You to dumbJoe For This Useful Post:
