I would say the positives are the article was motivating and touched on some pertinent points. The most important thing being study-groups.

The delta was that information could have been presented in a manner that can be absorbed and assimilated easily. Maybe clearly list out the points or something like that.

hi neo,
ur article was good n really motivating,
the problem with me is that i'm a working person n i dont hv much time to study except for nights,
i'm an engineer so QA,DI or Verbal r no probs but can u suggest a good book for General Awareness.they have 40 question in this section (2 marks each) in SNAP n i'm keen to join SCMHRD.
it will really get me a better score.
it will be a gr8 help.
thanks

Incorrect. SNAP pattern is roughly as follows

Sec I - English Usage and RC - 40Q - 40 marks

Sec II - Quantative Aptitude - 40Q - 40 marks

Sec III - DI and DS - 20Q - 40 marks

Sec IV - Logical Reasoning - 20Q - 40 marks

Sec V - General Awareness - 40Q - 40 marks

Total 160Q ---- 200 marks

So you can see the weightage for QA, DI and LR they carry nearly 60% of the marks with EU/RC and GA forming 20% each. You can decide what would get you a better score

Ok there is no one stop shop when it comes to General Awareness you ought work on it well before the exams. CSR and GK Today are a good source for current affairs and at times business gk, at times their issues have compilations on topics like History, Geography, Civics, World Events etc. A collection of such issues is a good repository keeping in mind the questions asked in these exams.

Hello manugupta,

Irrespective of your academic performance,it is imperative that you focus on doing really well in the CAT. A really good score can and will negate whatever poor academic performance that you may have.

With regards to the institute, i would recommend you ask your friends. They would perhaps be the best people to help you. Each insti has its strong points and weak points and faculty differs from place/branch to place/branch.

All the Best!!!

Re: The Below Average Student's Guide to Cracking the CAT - 25-01-2006, 06:03 PM

I know I shouldnt be posting in my own article thread but the whole get into social service seems to be quite a contentious statement.

This was my first indication

rian - December 31, 2005
Neo........
" 3) Go out and make a difference. Join a social service community. Click here to know more "

___ Is community service only for making your resume look good and attractive ?
___ Is it some sort of self advertisement for would be MBA s ?

I think you are sending a wrong signal to people out there . Social work or things like that should be only done when you really feel like doing , or when the urge of doing it comes from inside , not for making a statement in our resumes..

Our country needs good managers who are also ethically working towards the social upliftment of indian society instead of managers showing a banner of the list of organizations they are members of !

This was my reply:

Neo2000 - January 5, 2006
rian,
You missed the essence of the point. I was talking about hacving time on your hands and then I said "Go out......." I never said "Go out......" + "so that it can be put on your resume to make it look good". I sincerely believe all of us have it in us to make a difference if only we get off our lazy b-o-t-Toms.
p.s. There's a thread for this article. We can thrash this topic out there or you can always pm me.

Today someone else PM'd me and this is what he/she had to say

" but dont ye think that askin these wannabe geeks who read

your article to "go-get-a-life" or more politely "build

personality" is kinda pretty lame..i mean you think in 7

months flat ..people are goin to be awesome managers by

gettin into charity ?
"

This is what I replied:

"First off, "wannabe geeks"?? Kinda rude dont you think? You mean to tell me every student wanting to get a MBA degree is a "wannabe geek" ?
Secondly, I never said that they were going to be awesome managers. If you've read the comments section, some other guy posted a query similar to yours . My intention was to get more people involved in social service. I am repeating myself here but I truly believe that everyone can make a difference in this world if only they'd try.
"

I've already been asked quite a few times by close friends and family why I put in that statement.

My response: "Ask not what your country can do for you, Ask what you can do for your country"

Get into some social service people , make a difference in this world . There are lots of people out there who are not as lucky or as blessed as you are. Help make a difference in their lives. It may not change your personality a whole lot, but it'll certainly give you a wider perspective of things.

And who knows, you just might find your calling.

Cheers

In the mood, dude. Just watched "Rang De basanti" last night at a press screening.

Actually I would say the first criteria would be to enjoy the 'social service' you're doing. Find something you like to do, the rest will follow.
