Re: THE XIMB Solutions Centre : One Stop Query Handling... - 01-11-2004, 08:55 PM

hey guys..........

Its nice to know that people r really gearing up for CAT, XAT etc. It reminds me of my dooms day prep. at this time.

At this time the real thing to worry about to keep the cool in the exam. People usually forget the real basics of writing a competitive exam like XAT etc.

The most basic thing to know n apply in a competitive exam is

1> set the time limit to the sections n stick to it. It is applicable for exams other than XAT...

2> Know ur strength n strategise accordingly.

3> Do not spend too much time in a single question even though it may be the simplest question on earth.........

4> Get a digital watch if possible to keep track of exact time.

5> Try to imagine the cut offs for each section by going thru individual sections in the beginning... this will give u a fair idea about the way u should go about attempts.

6> If the paper is tough then its tough for all, so why to worry????

7> Be in the exam hall before 30 mins to avoid any traffic snarls........n anxious moments.

8> Do not look at others while writing the exam as it gets u outta conc. mode which results in loss in time.

9> Before the exam day just relax n chill out.......do not study as it would not add substantial amount of knowledge in a single day

10> Always say urself that "u can make it" and "n seat in this X institute is mine this time"

I hope too much funda has been given by me.

Now its implementation time dudes!!!!!!!!!!

All The Best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

more inquiries then shoot.....

Hi Satyen,

ur mail is really helpful..........but still I hv a query.Other than XAT score what is imp.....see i m from fashion background and had been an average student thruout my acads. so wanted to know that what role acads play.Last year I gave CAT but didn't gave XAT as I was under impression that it is very tough(more tham CAT) , but this year I am giving XAT so wanted to know abt it. for G.K. i will go thru the books like CS , business magazines but tell me one thing that other than G.K which section has more weightage(VA,quant). how abt quant .Is it similar to that of CAT or difficult than that.

I know I m asking so many questions at one go............hope to see ur reply soon.

hi Pooja,

To be frank with you the acads do count. But the weightage is not that much great, may be 10%. About the back ground its ok as there is always a rich mix of people from various backgrounds who r given admission.

The best way to counter the weakness in acads is by scoring high in the written test. To give u a clear picture about the XAT test, let me give u some facts.

XAT has always followed the pattern of

80 VA+RC
60 quant
60 GK

u can always go thru the previous years question papers to get a feel of the exam.

About ur question about the quant section, I will say it is totally unpredictable. but again if u see the previous question papers u can narrow down the topics to few such as permutation/combinations, series, some weird codings(do not worry about it) etc.

Always see the previous question papers as last time it repeated as much as 51 questions from previous year papers.

I know quant is nemesis for most of the students. Let me give u the nature of this paper. unlike CAT, it focuses more on function and logic based questions. If u can get the TIME XAT questions then u can fairly make out what is the requirements....

To remind u there is individual cut offs and time limits for each sections. once u move from one section to another , u cannot go back. But, many people who have cleared the paper assumes this rule as not sacrosanct

I hope the above info will help u. Any more doubt shoot!!!!!!!!!

Thanks a lot for a prompt reply.U hv cleared most of my confusion.Tell me satyen if I can get XAT paper of last 2-3 yrs.............one thing more is whatever I m doing for CAT preparation is sufficient or I need to do something else than that for XAT I mean some other book or any other material.

How is the pattern for VA/RC?Is it more vocab based or all the topics are important?

Actually if I will get any paper than I will be able to make out the paper pattern.

Well anyways thanks again.Hope to see your reply soon.(again).

ok....... to let u know about the previous year papers let me give u a link to download previous xat papers.

I am not sure how many papers in there just check it out otherwise collect it from any of ur friend who is taking coaching in TIME, CL etc.

http://www.boredguru.com/modules/dow...eA&show=10

for the extra mtrl for prep. its better if u get some quant specific mtrl for XAT from TIME or IMS or CL etc. I know about TIME giving mtrl for XAT.

About the diff between CAT prep. n XAT prep., the major diff u will find in english. Here u have to focus on the verbal part. just go thru the previous paper the pattern is constant n repeating.

20 synonym
20 antonym
10 fill in the blanks(most prob. sentence comp.)
30 RC

quant (6 sets, each set 10 interrelated questions)

I hope it will give a fair idea about the XAT pattern.

cya later if u have got more questions.
