GOLMAAL HAI BHAI! SAB GOLMAL HAI!
GOLMAAL HAI BHAI! SAB GOLMAL HAI!
GOLMAAL HAI BHAI! SAB GOLMAL HAI! Scams, corruptions, black money! All such words make us think of politicians. Right! But is that the scenario? Given the power and authority they have, I do comprehend that it is obvious to presume that it is only politicians who amass money through various indecent means in our country....

Now generally regarded as a forgery, the Kensington Rune Stone, a 90-kilogram slab of inscribed rock discovered in Minnesota in 1898, was said to have recorded an encounter between Native Americans and Norse explorers in 1362 and thus was cited as evidence that Europeans explored North America in pre-Columbian times.

Hi, so i'be been preparing for GMAT for about two months now, and am facing multiple problems when it comes to sentence correction. I've undertaken coaching from a reputed training center, but I still cannot manage to get a decent score even on practice questions.

Q.1) Is there a way, to swiftly identify the best possible answer choice without having to apply the multiple rules of grammar?

Q.2) Is there a magic remedy?

Q.3) Does studying 'Parts of Speech' actually going to help me identify the best answer choice in under 02:00 minutes?

Really appreciate all your help here!

Also, in case of modifiers, skip the modifiers while reading the sentence so as to check what the sentence means or if it has correct construction or not. In case if the modifier itself need to be correct then it is helpful to check to what phrase/noun/pronoun the modifier is being applied. Sometimes, it is modifying the two things, which lead to ambiguity error.

Most students working in SC do see SC as a pure-play grammar application exercise; which it is not. The basic philosophy of GMAT SC is to articulate the sentence such that it depicts the intended meaning in the best possible manner: Absolutely clear in meaning, and no ambiguity.

So, solving SC is a 2-step procedure:

(i) Understand the intended meaning of the sentence

(ii) Articulate the sentence such that it depicts the intended meaning in the best possible manner

Notice that grammar plays a role only in step (ii) above; after all, grammar is a vehicle, which lays out frameworks that help us in articulation of the sentence.

Incidentally, I noticed that two of the three questions that you asked pertained to Grammar. So, I am wondering if you had a bit of an overdose of English Grammar. Many students who come to us actually come with Wren and Martin in their hands, and we suggest (urge) them to immediately keep the book away; it's a great book, but an overkill for GMAT.

By the way, we have made the entire Grammar section of our book GMAT sentence correction Nirvana available for free preview here: pothi (dot) com/pothi/book/EducationAisle-gmat-sentence-correction-nirvana.

After going through it, you would realize that the book covers various grammar constructs, such as parts of speech, phrases & clauses etc. in only as much detail as is absolutely required, for you to attain mastery in sentence correction.

Even apart from this, if there is any specific section (modifiers / parallelism / pronouns etc.) that is especially confusing you, PM me your email-id, I can mail the corresponding chapter from the book.

Anyway, the bottom-line is that if one believes that he/she will be able to sail through SC without knowing anything about English Grammar, I am afraid that might not be possible.

Regards,

Ashish.
