@EducationAisle : Thanks for the post. Basically, my intention of writing the sentence within quote marks is to bring up structural difference that lies between reported and direct speech. Needless to say, all reporting verbs include "that" before conveying a thought. If the verb is reporting more than one thought, then the word "that" is repeated before every thought in order to maintain continuity and flow of logic in reported idea or thought.  However, the example sentence in Q#35, Verbal Supplement, uses "but" as a conjunction, and the correct expression drops "that" to discontinue the suggestion provided in the first part of the sentence. However, such sentences usually are long and pose a kind of challenge. Kindly provide more tips on test strategy.
