I just read somewhere in PG that the SPJain Hostels are pathetic to live in. Is the programme completely residential or is there any permission to stay outside, like day scholars, and attend the course?

SP Jain has a completely residential course.

Hi ... I've been lying dormant for some time now, but a flood of PM's has awoken me from my slumber

Let me start by answering some of Doctor-sahab's queries which are a pretty comprehensive set ...

q1.how grp interview is conducted....is it possible tht my grp wud consist only of doctors...or they may consist of ppl frm varied backgrd...

The group interview is pretty much like a normal interview with three panelists questioning upto 4 or 5 candidates at a time. This year the panelists are likely to include one student of the present PGDBM batch. The group is usually very diverse in terms of candidate backgrounds as well as the specializations they have opted for. This is one reason why the likelihood of finding an all doctor group is almost nil ... the other reason of course is that there aren't too many docs who'll be part of the shortlist in any case.

q2.wat kind of ques. r asked in grp inerview... professional/personal/related to family/ or is it they ask with respect to questionnaire tht we r supposed to fill up?

The interviews are pretty comprehensive and every candidate is given sufficient time to talk and prove himself/herself. Candidates with work experience can expect questions related to their profile, projects, organization and future career expectations. Freshers are often grilled on why an MBA makes sense for them at this stage, before industry experience. Apart from this, the form questions and the achievements you have claimed in the application form may be subjects of discussion. Basically, you can be quizzed on anything under the sun ... though you can be assured that the process will not slip into a stress interview, or anything which will prevent the participants from putting up their very best.

q3.is there any doctor who is studyin or passed frm spjain...
In the batch of 2007, there isn't ... but I will try and find out about other batches.

q4.how to fill up questionnaire form.....never compromised my value system....and i failed personally once.. never in team work.....
This is your call ... I wrote I've never compromised on values myself last year and here I am!! Having said that, it is not advisable to be too pious or attempt to be perfect, as the interviewers are always one step ahead and everyone appreciates honesty. Another tip: it is observed that a lot of applicants to SPJIMR seem to develop all sorts of social work, value-based activities overnight in an attempt to showcase themselves to the panelists. Please DO NOT fudge all this, as there have been cases of people being found out in the interview, which does not cut a very pretty picture. Be confident of what you have achieved, and if in one particular domain you have nothing to your credit, just say so!

q5.which areas shud i focus on now for prepn.??.....general awareness/current affairs/marketing(i hav filled up marketin in form and got call frm it)..
General awareness and current affairs is often tested in the form of a moderated discussion during the interview process, so you'd be well advised to brush up on that. You don't need to be an expert in the field you've chosen to specialize in, so don't go looking for Kotler and Peter Drucker at this stage. But expect to be asked why you have opted for a particular branch and how it is relevant with you workex and/or your future plans.

q6.i hav forgotten wat i filled up in online form exactly while applying... so wat is the procedure to gettin hold of it
It'll be very difficult to manage that ... it is always advisable to keep a copy of what you submit to any insti as they may draw upon that during the interview process. Don't forget to do so with the questions you will be answering in the second stage.

Hope that's a good start! Our official PG representative one_step_to_insanity (), and the rest of us including zzzombie will be happy to answer any more queries ... so please go ahead and shoot!

All the very best and hope to see all of you at SPJIMR! 😃 😃

thnks a ton seniors for the advice..........

SPJ folks et al...

Was just wondering what exactly to watch out for in a Group Interview..... I mean, why do the SPJ ppl prefer it to a conventional PI?

I was under the impression that a GI might involve some cross-examining, maybe on each others' views, the panelists might set us at each others' throats, and so on.....

madz| Says
Basically, you can be quizzed on anything under the sun ... though you can be assured that the process will not slip into a stress interview, or anything which will prevent the participants from putting up their very best.

But this paints a very different picture.......
So then, what exactly is the purpose behind a GI? What qualities is it meant to check that might remain undetected in a GD or a PI? :|

Iam hoping you wont tell me it's just a quicker way of getting more interviews done!

madz Says

:wow:
You mean one of you guys would be on the panel interviewing us?? :wow:

Again, what's the funda behind that? How does a guy with about as much experience as the candidates themselves help in analyzing whether a candidate would fit into their programme or not? I dont get it. :

Seniors, kindly help me see the light.....
