hi arjun,
how different is this program from the general PGPM @SPJMIR..
i know it has a tie up with MIT & its for pure science /engg graduates..
but is their other specialization offered or its only a IT & system specialization..
kind of confused...

TIA

Hi puys,

We will be answering your queries at the end of each day in single consolidated post like this one.

Lets clear up a few things about the course :

PGP(SM)-MIT (formerly PGDSM-MIT) is a two year full time residential program at SP Jain that is designed to create professionals who have an excellent grasp of general management concepts, a specialisation in systems management, and an in-depth knowledge of IT.

@thiru8888 :

At present AICTE does not seem to have a policy on dual degree programs. Since this is a first of its kind program, it is not clear whether it falls under the scope of AICTE or not. Until that clarification, one can take that this program is not within the scope of AICTE and hence is not approved by it.

@sony:
The PGPM program @ SP is a one year program, where the specializations offered are IM and Ops.
The PGP(SM)-MIT on the other hand is a 2 year full time program wherein SPJIMR, in association with Virginia Tech's Pamplin College of Business, offers participants a Post Graduate Program in Systems Management and a Masters degree in Information Technology.
The course structure of the PGP(SM)-MIT program is very different from the PGPM program. In the PGP(SM)-MIT program, faculties from Virginia Tech and Pamplin College of Business actually fly down to the SPJIMR campus to take various courses. Please take a look at our course curriculum by clicking here.
Also, this program need not be ONLY for pure science graduates. Any 3 years bachelors degree with a subject/major in Maths plus a 1 year diploma/certificate, makes a candidate eligible for this program. Please check out the eligibility criteria by clicking here.

Keep posting your queries puys, the admission forms will come online by end of next week..

@ Puys
Please spread the word!! 😃

Can you throw some light on the CAT/XAT percentile required for this course?
Does the 85 percentile cap which is there for PGDM..applicable for this course also

Are sectional percentiles considered for selection for this course?

The selection process for PGP(SM)-MIT is based on a candidate's profile. Hence, there is no percentile cut off as such.
The various factors taken into consideration in the selection process can be seen by clicking here

hello arju this is nalin shukla from banglore i heard lot abt ths course will u telme the admission policy for this particular ... i didnt wrote the cat, xat, these time so,,, plz help,,,,

Hey Folks,

Thanks for the initiative. It will go a long way in helping the aspirants. I need your help to evaluate if i have a competitive profile for the program.

GMAT : 690
Work Ex : 3 years , SAP Consulting in a top tier IT Consulting MNC
Acads : Decent from a top notch engineering school
Extra Curricular Activities : Very Good/Excellent
Community Work : Good.

I understand its always very difficult to evaluate a profile with so less information. However, my major concern is my average GMAT score out here and need to understand the the score positioning viz a viz scores of students admitted last year. Do you feel the need of improving this score by few points..i can plan out things and rewrite my GMAT before april 30th.

Thanks for your guidance.

Is it a residential course? if yes, how much is the hostel fees?

Hi, i interacted with some of the alumni and i got to know that they had to spend 6 months at VirginiaTech ( i guess tht guy graduated in 2006)..however, the course structure this year does not mention anything about it....has the program architecture changed or did i goof up in gathering information??

Hi puys,

Here are the replies to your queries :

@nalin : A good CAT/XAT/GMAT score is necessary for applying to the program. If you are extremely interested in applying this year, you can take your GMAT and apply with the score before April 30th. The admissions procedure is clearly explained here.

@lostsoul4mba : As mentioned on the website and in previous posts, there are several parameters based on which a candidate is selected. One of these parameters is the test score and your GMAT score of 690 looks pretty decent in comparison to those who got selected last year.

Hey Puys!!

Lemme try and answer some of your queries....

@ Sankha... Hey buddy, Yes! This is a 2 year full time Residential Course and Yes, you do have to stay in a hostel. The hostel accomodation is mandatory and its fees is included in the SPJIMR component of the program... The Fee structure for the batch of 2008-10 can be checked out by clicking on the following link... Fee Structure Also, do go through the FAQs in case u need any other info...

@Ajay... The course structure has evolved right through the tenure of this program. Infact u will find a lot more subjects added to the current structure than it was previously.... Also, any participant who takes up this program automatically qualifies to be an alumni of BOTH Virginia Tech and S.P.Jain.. In that capacity, a participant is always free to visit the campus at Blacksburg, Virginia Tech, albeit at his own expense, whenever he wishes too... But, with the rigorous curriculum structure that this program has, participants seldom find the time to do so ...... As far as validating your info gathering process, I am afraid that I really cannot comment on the same..... :)

Take Care Guys and Do Spread the word........

@seniors,,

Just wanted to ask.....does SPJIAN looks for sectional scores of XAT/CAT or they are looking at total percentile for shortlisting candidates???....and how good it 94%le for getting shortlisted??

Ahhhaaa !!!

After a long wait finally the admission notification has arived. :)
but still when you try to apply online it is saying that the "Link will be activated soon". :(

Seniors could ou please look into this. Is it some website problem or the inst has not zeroed for the application form.

Seniors I would like to ask you that whether for this course as well SPJAIN will give more preferance to Profile only ? Because after seeing the GD list for PGDM course it was very unclear that what exactly the Inst wants and it was like Written exam didnot have any value :(.

I also came to know that the profiles of the shortlisted students are sent to Virginia Tech for screening purpose is it true ?

-Saurabh

Seniors,

Q1: What is the lowest (approximate) CAT %ile in your batch

Q2: What are my chances of getting a call (GOOD/BAD/UGLY)

CAT %ile : 91
Work Ex : 3 Years in TECHMAHINDRA
B.TECH : COMP SC - NIT (REC) 82 %age
XII - 80 %age
XII - 84 %age

Please give a realistic and straightforward answer.

Thanks in advance
