Possibility of IIM call despite poor school results

no chance if you are from general category… and you might get a call from new iims but it will be next to impossible to convert… and if you are an engineer and a male… just drop the idea of iims… target nitie or iits or FMS

I am a lil' concerned about getting IIM calls for CAT 12 as I did not get good school results and I am repenting a bit...
well I am working hard and targeting above 95%ile in CAT12..
can you please help me by bringing to my notice how much CAT Percentile would help me get a few IIM calls atleast?
and is there any possibility at call from IIMA?
thanks a lot

It depends on category..... If you are from general category... you will not get any call from IIMs at this percentile...

If you are from OBC... try to get around 96 percentile with sectionals around 90..you will get call from IIM C and new IIMS...

Please post ur profile
if general category, getting from A seems difficult...
you might get a call from C, L, new iims who give out calls simply on base of CAT iles.... if u have above 99.5 for C and 99+ for rest

Hi,

I have started preparing for CAT just now. I am not good at Maths, so started doing probs from Quantitative Ability of Arun Sharma.
What should my mode of preparation should be like?
When should I start writing exams?

I am an 8 pointer in my schooling and 7 pointer in my grad and post grad.I have done MBA from a B school but I wanted to write CAT again because of my passion for IIM.

Please throw me some light regarding my chances of getting seat in an IIM

apply P&C; after scoring a decent percentile in CAT
Colleges like IIM C,L,RRRTKU,NITIE,FMS,IIT's,MDI
have only CAT percentile as their only criteria for GDPI

hey i have scored only 64% in 10th
83% in 12th
n 70% in grads
done grads in B.Com in 2010
was unable 2 take CAT 2 yrs because of some family problem...
so i don't have any thing 2 show 4 these yrs(4m june 2010-2012 )
even if i get 97%tile or above will i get cal 4m IIMs?????/
i belong 2 general category... plz reply

Hiii...my profile goes like this:
10th -91.8% (CBSE)
12th- 72% (CBSE)
Graduation-7.72/10 from NIT-Nagpur
Work Ex. Working in Coal India Ltd.(till now 4 months)
OBC category
The question is that suppose I manage to get "above" 95 percentile in CAT 2013 (I've just started preparing), how much can my past acads damage my chances of getting calls from IIM-A,B,C,L,I ? Honest answers are welcome. Thank you

@ibad786 Thanks man...that was nice info u gave

First of all, Do not use SMS language 😃
now get back to your query,
As per the last year's cut off,
You may expect a GDPI call from newer IIMs if you score above 97%tile,
But For Older IIMs, You may have to get above 99.5%tile,

How ever IIM-ABKS look dicey on academic, so you may not get a call from these institutes.
And Ya, You Have to justify that gap of two years in GD-PI round.
Do not worry, Focus On Written Tests, You cannot do any thing about your past 😃
@Amrutha_V its better u do a second MBA from abroad after already having done it from India once .......but seriously what value you will get after doing MBA again ?? It will just mean to repeat your classes for another 2 years .......frankly speaking if i were an IIM Professor sitting in the interview panel (assuming you clear CAT and are called by them) you would hv to give a very convincing logic to get through
@angel29 You have very low Acads (as a matter of fact very close to what I have got in 10th, 12th and BE ironically even the CAT results are same)...Its always better to give a shot..try to get a better clg this year as it seems u may get easily..and then if u don't find it suitable at all then go for a drop bt do get a job as a jobless intelligentsia is strictly prohibited at IIMs...

Evening

I have 79.4 in Class 10, 82.4 in Class 12 and 63 in BE. I am male from general category. I would like to know what should be my minimum percentile target for IIM-C in CAT 13??

Plz prepare hard and try to get 99.5+ next time. Don't worry on academic front. IIM-C,L,R,R,R,U,K,T, FMS, XLRI, MDI are ON for you.ATB!!
Motivating to hear it 😃 thanks a lot! not going for 99.5 but for 100.

Make that 99.65+ for Joka because this time, with the diversity factor, the cutoff was males has gone high. Although females can expect a call at 99.15+ :)

Here is the scenario...

For A - you need 80+ in X,XII and Grad and above 99.5
For B - Excellent acads and work ex and CAT score above 98
For C - male 99.65 and female 99.12
For K and I - 90+ in CAT. 95+ in X,XII and 87+ in BTech (or 80+ if other) if you are a boy. Girl can get through with decent acads.

For L - 99.5+ with decent acads for ABM and decent acads+work-ex for PGP

New IIMs - Target 97+.

I would suggest people to concentrate on other exams like XAT, NMAT, SNAP etc cause god knows what has happened to CAT.
@seetharam7 I agree with the last line there!
" god knows what has happened to CAT "

haha.. finally this thread.. well frm personal bitter experience i can now bust a couple of myths..

First.. Im an engineer.. BTech+Mtech in a dual degree .. (7.5 and 8.4 odd pointers) male and GEN(so this combination will already attract brickbats) i got NO calls this time around

Myth 1: A good score in boards will get u a call if u get a decent percentile (had 93,93.25..school topper in maths in both boards, weirdly enuff got only 90,80 in english)

Myth 2: Work ex counts(had 3 mths which anyway doesnt count..but even if u have 3 years it wont erase ur past record if u hav bad board/grad marks)

Myth 3: Normalization is designed to bring everyone onto a level field(was DR 5 with my scores for grad/post grad.. in a college where 8 cgpa is considered exceptional)

Myth 4: Get anything above 99.5 %ile in CAT n u will surely get a call(once again..refer top 3 myths)

The only lesson i learnt(for male general ENGG) is that if u hav 90+ in both boards..and 80+ in grad, then u cud do reasonably well in CAT(98%ile which is anyway a good achievement).. otherwise prepare to get at least 99.9 %ile in order to have a good chance of studying in an IIM.. ATB

Hey Hi, I had a very bad experience this year.

CAT 12 95.54 % NO calls at all
10th 80%
12 91%
Grad 7.8 , (Man top was just 8)
General Engineer Girl , Being a girl dosent help so much , trust me .
Only your ACADS matter for IIM calls :(

Although preparing for CAT 13 ,what is the probability of IIMB , I luv it

and why are IIMs forgetting one point that people with great brains dont study well in 10th 12th and BE due to various reasons,

A student with 75 5 overall is sometimes far better than me and far better than a 95% overall , if he/she has just mugged up answers and has a lavish and no responsibilities...

I hate the criterion, IIM's need to rethink
