Placements

We are still midway through course and our placements are yet to begin. So we cannot give you any statistics. However, what we can tell you now is that prospects look good. Placements are provided by ESB Business School when participants are in Germany. There are typically 2 modes through which you can get placed.

 Master's Thesis: Participants have to complete a project with company. If the company likes the project done by you, they can offer a job. This is not same as Internship concept in India. In Master's Thesis, participants may/may not be required to stay in company premises (It is at company's discretion and situation). It could also be the situation that you go to company only once/twice a week. This process is very flexible. Currently, our batch has started the process to get Master's Thesis for each of us from companies. We have commitments from companies such as Pepsi, TCS, Walter, Bokela, Selectron, Eisenmann, Huber etc.
We are also in talks with many other companies. This process has started and is on going. May be by April this process will end.

 The other mode is busines fair organized by ESB Business School. Here, several companies represent themselves and you can fix appointments with companies a-prior, for job, internship or Master's Thesis. List of companies scheduled for this year's business fair in April can be found in this link: Unternehmen 2011
Also, we have internship from P&G; and Daimler Trucks lined up at the end of course, which can also be used as a gateway for employment. (For those who get selected by these companies, ofcourse )
Faculty
The subjects taught are similar to those of 1 year PGPM course and some subjects are same in PGDM 1st year and PGCIM. You can compare the Program Architecture in the website to get the idea. Faculty is also same in PGCIM and PGDM with some minor adjustments. Also, we have visiting faculty from ESB Business School, who taught 3 subjects in Mumbai and visiting faculty from industry and other B-Schools.

Fees
The last year's fees is mentioned in the Website including living expenses. Any specific questions, on living in Mumbai or Germany can be answered by us.

Hope all the above info should answer commonly asked questions. Please go ahead and post your queries or comments! 😁

Are they planning to increase the current Batch size of 23..!?

how much % is taught in German language..!!

could please share your profile before joining this course...

No. The batch size remains same, as it will be difficult to send too many people to Germany.

It's a 3 term course. In ESB Business School, the first two terms are taught in German (Which we do in SPJIMR in English) The third term done in Germany is English. We do have German language training given to us by faculty from Goethe Institute, but it is only A1 level and meant for our comfortable stay in Germany. So, you don't need any prior knowledge of German language.

Regarding my profile, I had 3 years of experience in a telecom MNC. I had worked in India and China.
I had scored 91.3% in CAt and got a profile based call. In our batch, CAT/XAT scores vary (max is nearly 98%), but everyone has an excellent background profile in terms of quality of experience and extracurricular activities, entrepreneurial activities etc.

Dear All ,

I am Currently working for Hero Honda (20 Months of workex). Have also applied to the PGDM course. I wanted to apply for this course. But going thru the threads for this course i got to know of some views on the fees and all. That the program in ESB costs 3 lacs for the same course then why pay 13 lacs whn S P Jain adds no value. I was very much interested in applying but that thread has created doubts in my mind.

My Profile is :-

Xth - 87 %
XIIth - 90.20 %
Grads - 63 %

Cat - 98 percentile

20 Months of work ex in Hero Honda

I had German language also uptil 10th standard in my school (Any advantages for knowing german ??)

Now i have 3 questions :-

1) Whether i can apply for the course or not ?

2) What is the take on the fees issue which was raised by people of last batch ?

3) If we could get any info on the profile of the last batch ?

Hello shree.....

wanted to clarify a few things.....
1. As per my analysis it looks like average monthly expense for a family of 3 (once u get married and have a kid), is going to be in the range of 2500 - 3000 euros. That translates into a conservative 30k-36k per yr. Take into account the german basic tax which will be 14%(min) if we land up in a job of less than 53k a yr,plus there will be additional taxes which I am not clear about.

SPJain is claiming that graduates from ESB earn an avg salary of 65k Euros excluding fringe benefits.

any clarifications....

2. Are the ticketing and visa costs will be borne by the students individually or is included in the program fees.

3. Is Family acco available in spjimr while stay at mumbai.

Any other insights about the course.

1) Yes. You can apply.. Preferred experience is 24 months, but if profile is good, professors can excuse that...

2) I guess it is fair. Fees for Regular PGDM in SPJIMR is 4.1 lacs per year.
For the 8-month PGCIM, it is 4 lacs by SPJIMR. Considering the inputs we got from SPJIMR and the number of classes we have compared to PGDM (almost 1.5 times), the visiting faculty from other B-schools, arranging an international conference, German language training etc, we feel its worth it.
ESB Charges 7500 Euros (approx 4.5 lacs) for its fees which is reasonable considering the cost of a typical foreign education. That makes the total tuition fees to be around 8.5 lacs. Other 1 year programes in ISB or Great Lakes charge much higher fees, without international travel.
Hostel expenses in SPJIMR is around 30-35k for living. For food, its 40 bucks per meal (pay as u eat)
Flight cost is around 22.5k
Hostel in Germany costs around 175-210 Euros per month
Other living expenses including meals should cost another 200-300 depending on the individual.
Hence, 8.5 Lacs for tuition + another 2-3 lacs for living and travel, seems like a good offer to me.
Plus if you are lucky, the company can pay typically 500 Euros/Month for Master's Thesis. (again amount depends on the company)

3) You can check the batch profile in this site. (Download the PDF) Batch_Profile

Hello Shree,

Really thank you for your concerns about starting this thread.

One query that I would like to know about is, CAT/XAT percentile related thing. Is college strict about 85 percentiles over calling the candidates for GD/PI? Will less percentiles work to get a call ? I mean if a person is having a good corporate exposure, experience and has less CAT/XAT percentile then how the things can go? What was the least CAT/XAT percentiles in your batch?

Just wanted to know your inputs/thought on that. Thank you again for the this wonderful information about the course.

Ruturaj

1) Even I am not clear about family stay and their expenses, as I never needed to think about that 😁 65000 Euros is a ballpark figure quoted by ESB not SPJIMR. SPJIMR just happens to mention on their website what ESB had quoted. Unlike India, the B-Schools in Germany do not compute placement, salary data etc. If it is a consultancy firm, the remuneration would be much higher.
Besides, it is not mandatory that you land up a job in Germany. Most of the Master's Thesis we have got are typically country entry strategies and market expansion strategies in India. So, some ( or a majority) will end up heading a German companies operations in India with Indian remuneration. We are yet to find the exact picture, as we the first batch, but everything should be clear by June - July period when the next course will begin.

2) It's borne by student itself. Visa application costs around Rs. 2600
Flight costs Rs. 22.5k after group discount
and add another Rs 2500 for health insurance.

3) As far as I know, There is no provision for special housing for married candidates in SPJIMR. They might allow for exceptional circumstances. You can call up the number in the website and ask this question to admin directly.
Just for info, one married individual in our batch stays in our hostel itself.
and even PGPM guys who are married don't stay with their families.

Thanks Shree for all the info....
Its wonderful to have views from a person who is undergoing the course.
one more thing-
Any revision in fees this year, just for info???

To 1411.ruturaj:

College is not strict about cut-off percentile. If profile is good, lower can be considered. For eg: One guy in our batch has 2-3 startup companies.. I am not sure of the least figure though.
But of course if college has to make a choice between candidates with similar work profiles, cptitive scores will be considered.

Thanks Shree for all the info....

As far as I know, it is the same this year also..

Thanks Shree...its good to see the seniors take initiative to facilitate the aspirants. I have few queries regarding the course :

1. I could not find ESB in the FT ranking of B schools. Where does ESB stand in the rankings ?
2. Is there any committment from SPJIMR for getting the students placed in India itself ?
3. You have talked about people getting research projects from the Indian companies at this stage itself when your germany part of course is still overdue. Can you please elaborate a little more on this one. Which companies and what profiles are offered ?
4. Does it focus solely on Indo-German or one can get opportunities to work for other European comapnies as well i.e UK and French ?

1) Since ESB Business School does not offer all three terms in English and offers only the third term in English, it doesn't figure in FT rankings. But it is consistently ranked among the top 3 Business Schools in Germany and was awarded the best International University in Germany in 2010 by DAAD

2) We are not sure about that. Currently onus is on ESB to provide placements. There is a business fair for students of ESB - (List of companies in this fair, I had given earlier in some link. please check that.) In the remote chance that ESB is not able to do so, SPJIMR will consider.. (As you may understand, I will have to put it on records that, this is my view of things , as i cannot speak on behalf of institute here.)

3) It's not Indian companies. All the companies I had listed earlier (except TCS) are German/Switzerland based. They are offering Master's Thesis, which we have to work on. The topics offered so far are how to enter India (country entry strategies), market expansion strategies, revenue management projects, Leadership based projects etc). When a German company gives you to design country entry strategies, they are most likely to hire you to lead the countries operations.

4) You can work in any company (including that of US), but our course's target segment is Indo-EU based companies.

thanks Shree for that lucid explanation !

I did hear my prof quoting that the number of applicants were in a few thousands range.. 250 got shortlisted for interview n called to mumbai.. and finally we got selected..
