hey seniors,
how much stress is given to the acad related question for the engineers in the interview???
i m fresher ,,,,

So lets start then....

Seniors can you throw some light on the GDPI procedure that DSE has in terms of time , number of students in a batch , kind of gd topics , kind of questions mostly asked during interviews... And some do's and dont's for the candidates...

And also if seniors can share their gd pi experiences that would help us all.

If Last year's trend is followed, then you may expect a large GD-Group. Varying between 15-20 people. 5 minutes were given to think and then 20-30 mins for discussion. At the end, each one was given one min to summarize. GD-Topics can be anything and everything...A general topic is mostly given (eg: Technology and Business, India in last 2 decade, etc.) However, an abstract topic cannot be ruled out (though very rare)...

As everybody will be given enough time (as per last year trend), avoid making it a fish market...In fact, you may run out of points...So, make entry once ot twice in the process with relevant points and in the end, either each one may be asked to summarize or one or two person can be randomly picked by panel to conclude. When you conclude or summarize, make sure it is the summary of all points discussed and not re-emphasis of your points.

GD is not the elimination one....and people applied for both MIB-MHROD will have their GDs and PIs for both on the same day (as per last year's trend).

A lot of weightage is given to PI... Make sure why you want to join MIB or MHROD...You may be asked why not any general MBA and why IB or HR...Also, if you are from Engineering or Literature or some other background, make sure you know the reason why you want to join MIB/MHROD...How will it benefit you and how you relate your background with this choice of yours...

Interview can be nor aptitude based...where normal HR questions are asked, testing your thought process, aptitude and analytical skilss...Or it can be an academic one as well where you may be grilled on economics, maths or any other subjects....

My advise to you all......Read a lot:

Religiously read a general newspaper (Times Of India or any other) and a Business Newspaper (Economic Times, Mint, etc.)...Beaware of the haqppenings around you...This is especially necessary for MIB aspirants...You need to understand the International Business from India's perspective...India's growth story, its potential in future based on past decade's performance...The more you know, the more you can be at comfort during PI..The questions may not be on these, but if you are aware of the facts and happenings, you can use them in your answers and shift the interview towards that end...

DONTs: Dont beat around the bush..Rather stay calm and admit that you dont know than give wrong answer. Giving wrong answer with confidence and justification is a risky art.

DOs: You need not compete with others to prove your point...I mean, your display of competence is independant of anybody else...so do your best...

So, begin with these points in mind...Sanjay, Abhi, Iti and other friends may soon share their experience and DOs and DONTs and other tips.

hi seniors,

I can only see the criteria for general selection in the pdf ie. 93 percentile. but no names for general category have been listed in the pdf.
is there any list for general category or not.

The list containing the names of General and OBC candidates is expected to be out by Monday. The department has kept the Cutoffs 93%ile(for General)and a rigorous cross check is made to ensure that names of candidates are not missed.

will the MIB and mhrod interviews be held together?..i have 96.05 in cat..if i m selected for both, will it pose a problem for me in the time of interview..like will the interviewer cnsider me as fickle minded person not sure of wat to do..so applying fr both type?..

hi seniors! i hav one question..i downloaded the form..filled it and send it to 'section officer' along with draft and other enclosures! is it okay?? i mean was i supposed to send it to 'admission office'? will my name appear?? i dnt have any proof othrwise to show in case if my name does not appear!! cat 96.30.. nc-obc category..

Hi Sampurna, This is Reetabrata from Calcutta.. another 96.05 percentiler. And have applied for both MIB and MHROD..

Now, this is an issue, seniors! What to say if they ask to pick either MIB or MHROD right then and there ?

Just a minor correction.....
If Last year's trends will be followed, U ll be given the topic
5 mins to think and scribble watever u can....n then the panel will ask each of you randomly to speak on the topic for 1 min time limit (this is the phase which is more important) ,15-20 mins dicussion and in the end 2-3 people will be told to summarize it....randomly

Its first page and it seems you have not read my post (first post) properly...Anyways, lets state this once again:

Generally people called for both MIB-MHROD are done with GD and PI on the same day....Its like this:
Suppose 40 students are called for GD-PI on a particular day (assuming they are called for both MIB and MHROD)....Then they are divided into two groups of 20 students each...First group (say) are suppose to go with GD-PI for MIB in the first half (before lunch) and the same time the second lot of 20 students go through the GD-PI procedures of MHROD. The process reverses after lunch: 1st lot of 20 students goes through GD-PI for MHROD and simultaneously, the 2nd lot of 20 students goes with the GD-PI process of MIB.

P.S: All these are based on last years's trend.
Hi Sampurna, This is Reetabrata from Calcutta.. another 96.05 percentiler. And have applied for both MIB and MHROD..

If previous year trend is followed, then you wont be asked to choose between MIB and MHROD at that spot for two reasons:

1. Results are declared much later..so the choice to op for either of them arises much later.
2. The PIs and GDs are held separately for both.

However, you will be grilled:
" Why have you applied to both MIB and MHROD....are you not sure enough?"
"What course will you choose if you are selected for both and why....?"....Be careful while answering this one...It is a double edged sword..generally, the panelist are different for both MIB & MHROD...But you never know, one of them may be present for both....(Just a probablity)...so prepare an answer keeping this in mind...

See,there would be two separate interviews for both MHROD and MIB.The interview panels would also be different. They may/may not ask your preference at the time of interviews and choosing one of them in no way would hamper your chances for the another one.You need to play safe over there...Do I need to say how??:-P:-P
Just remember one thing...whatever happens, if you've told that your preference is HR in MHROD interview(same goes for MIB too) you shouldn't backtrack from that.Stick with your decision.
DOs-Be direct and be yourself.
They don't want scientists over here.Just curious candidates with a zeal of learning new things out of which they would nurture out managers.
DONTs-Never try to beat around the bush.Guys believe me the prof. sitting in interview panels would be having more years of experience than your/mine age:lookround::lookround:.They would love to hear the real you and not something which you've practiced for days.

do we have sectional cut-offs....i have only 52 in DI...overall 93.79...

No we don't

Well, this has yet not been decided/disclosed....However, between GD and PI, PI is given max weightage....Past academics is not given weightage (generally)

Hi Puys

There are separate interview panels and GD sessions for MHROD and MIB, though in every probability both of them will be scheduled on the same day for a particular candidate (morning and afternoon sessions). Our GD panel had 5 panel members and interview was taken by 5 or 6 people.
The questions asked may vary from being of general awareness based to core subject knowledge ones.

Listing some questions I was asked:

1> Do you know about Shyama Prasad Mukherjee? (this question was asked in response to my statement about being a DU student)
2> Why MIB after an M.Sc.?
3> Why HR after M.Sc.?
4> Name some important forest types of India. (subject based)
5> Name a medicinal extract from a plant or animal.

You may be asked to rate your choice between MIB and MHROD. But this question is asked solely to access your clarity of thought and sense of ambition.

My suggestions:
Do's: Be clear about your goals and objectives. what you want in life? what you want out of a management degree?
Be yourself.

Don'ts: Never lose confidence in a stress inducing situation. Even if you don't know an answer don't be shy to own it.

For the GD (as was followed last year)

Same as Sharique has pointed out. 5 minutes for thinking, a minute for each to speak his mind followed by 20 minutes GD and then a person asked to summarize.

Avoid cross talks and finger pointing (a person did that in my group and who, maybe not for this reason, was not selected eventually)
and last but not the least: avoid the clichd FISH MARKET

Hoping to see you all
Good luck:cheerio:

Any Idea whether the panelists comprise someone from the industry also or the professors only?(As per last year's trend )
I am asking because being an IT professional ,i might be grilled at my profile or my role ,which an industry panelist would know inside out .

Thanks,
Himank

Both professors and industry people. Most of the answers are expected to be out of commonsense which is basic for any MBA degree. Face the interview with confidence and poise. Brush up your basic work related requirements and keep in touch with latest events related to your field.
