I am sayantan sen, i have converted MBA in Finance University of Calcutta,and will be joining the batch of 2010-2012,i am starting this new thread for all the future aspirants as well as the current batch of MBA(F) students.I am also posting the various prospects of the course in terms of the contact details, rich faculty base,selection process, course fees,placement data etc

Admission :
The minimum qualification for admission to the Course is a Bachelor's Degree (10+2+3system) in Arts/Science/Commerce or a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering and Technology/Medical Science/Professional Course or its equivalent from any University recognized by the University of Calcutta with 50% marks in aggregate.
Candidates seeking admission to the Course shall have to qualify in the Common Admission Test (CAT or MAT). Final selection of eligible candidates will be made on the basis of a cumulative score of the academic achievements, CAT/ MAT score, group discussion, viva-voce, and work experience as detailed below :
Eligibility:
Candidates must have qualified in CAT
Selection will be based on an overall score comprised of the following:
(i) Past academic achievements : 100 marks
(ii) CAT : 50 marks
(iii) Group Discussion (G.D.) : 20 marks
(iv) Interview : 20 marks
(v) Work experience : 10 marks
Total : 200 marks
N.B.
The Department may screen applications based on weighted scores of (i) and (ii)
above for GD and interview.
Application Money (Prospectus & Form) :
Indian students Rs. 750
Foreign students US $ 100
(For outstation students fees may be paid by a demand draft of Rs.750 payable in
Kolkata drawn in favour of Co-ordinator, MBA in Finance, Calcutta University.)
7. Course Fee :
Indian students : Rs. 30,000 per semester
Foreign students : US $ 2,000 per semester
In addition, students will have to pay for course materials as may be decided by the
Department.
8. Caution Deposit (refundable on completion of the course):
Indian students : Rs. 10,000
Foreign students : US $ 1,000
9. Classes will be ordinarily held at the Asutosh Building, College Street Campus,

Placement:
The Department has been maintaining rapport with many commercial and industrialmorganizations through its former students who are well placed. Placement will largely depend on the value addition of the students, the opportunities available in the economy and the efforts of both the students and the Department. The placement of the first two batches of students (i.e., Batch of 2005-07 and Batch of 2006-0
is extremely encouraging (100%). A similar response has been registered in respect of the placement of the third batch of students (2007-09), which is almost complete. Our students obtained good offers from IDBI, Dena Bank, Reliance Industries, Axis Bank, HSBC, HDFC Bank, Yes Bank, Corporation Bank, Bank of Baroda, Simplex Infrastructure, Haldia Petrochemicals, Bandhan Microfinance, Titagarh Wagons Ltd., Senbo and Zaks Equity Research. The Department expects many other organizations of repute to collaborate in the near future.
Hostel accommodation:
Availability of hostel accommodation will be on acompetitive basis as per University rules. Private accommodations are also available in the City at a reasonable cost.

@ gaurav and soumik thanks mates, i will make sure that this thread gets the proper focus with regular posts once my classes starts from 31st may, by asking my batchmates to pour in on a regular basis, till den guys keep the thread roaring and alive
puys by the way day before yesterday,i went to d univ and asked about the placement scene, this time avg according to all seniors went in the range of 5.5 to 6
, with corporation bank taking arround as much as 10 ppl,along with lot of other PSU nd yes ofcourse pvt players, and even arround 3 of my seniors got arround 8 the placement in the higher range is still unknown as the placement is still going, will post it as soon as possible.
puys i hav a lil doubts d course structure says that we hav winter training does that mean we hav 2 internships i.e both summer and winter ???
puys i am really confused does it mean we hav 2 internship, or does it mean we have only winter intrship and no summers???

@all puys, there has been some changes in d classes commencement schedule, instead of 31st this month might start from 7 or 12 june.
though it was said that the date of d commencement of classes wud be upload on the net on the CU website, but nothing has come up till yet, puys who r in kol if u guys visit the campus please post the excat date of commencement of the classes.
puys those who r outside admits like me do we need to submit our equivalence certificates too?

better u personally ask them once...

can u please tell me do we need to give equivalent needed, i mean see my admin is done got the offer letter, they took my migration also, but in blore all courses r 3 yr courses with six sem we dont hav d concept of honours , pass, major, minor, so will they ask me to give equivalance certificate for my BBM from Alliance even though if it was under BU latter on?

see buddy also courses in blore under BU irrespective of the college r honours courses i.e 3 yr course with six sem so mine was also the same, , and migration i got and gave them to at the time of admin,the question is they didnot ask me for any equivalent cert at the time of admin, will they ask latter on for my equivalent cert?, coz if they do i wanna clear all the formalities regarding it before i leave blore.

though i wud call the univ persons,but can u please confirm the about the equivalenc thing if u happen to visit the univ lately.
