Its a very good institute still emerging in the market. Not having a big name yet but I am sure it will spread its name in the coming years.

Well my batch has people with CAT percentile mostly in the range of 80-90, however there were few exceptions with low percentile in the range 50-60. At SPM ur profile matters a lot. People with chemical/mechanical background and work ex definitely have a edge.
Placements- Last batch 100% placement with highest pck 11.9 in GAIL and average around 7. SPM has good placements. Apart from oil n gas and power companies, consultancies, IT and Finance companies also recruit.

Thanks a lot harsh..

Hello Harsh,

I am a graduate of NIT way back in 2006 with a degree in ECE.
I initially started with Software (Accenture ) but did not feel happy there so I left.

Now I am working in Business Development with a company in Oil & Gas, Power & Minerals sector.

I have 3 questions for you:
1. Do you think PDPU has people in my age bracket 27+ & work experience 5+ years?
2. Does PDPU consider GMAT scores as well? I have a GMAT of 750 & would like to use it if possible.
3. For a person with a background such as me (B.Tech ECE), do you think PDPU would give me a chance?

Thanks.
TJ

Hi TJ,

I too badly wanted to leave IT after spending 3 yrs in Accenture. Good to know that u have vast exp in Energy sector and want to pursue MBA in Energy now. To answer ur queries-
1) Yes, we have few ppl in 2011-2013 batch within same or even higher age group. Also, there is 1 guy with 5+ yrs of work ex of which 4 yrs is in Schlumberger.
2) No, GMAT is not considered in SPM. Only CAT score in considered. Pls refer adm policy from below link School of Petroleum Management
3) Yes, u have an excellent chance of converting SPM. There are ppl from various backgrnds in the current batches such as Chem, Mech, CS, ECE, Instru, Civil, BA, BSc, BBA, BCom etc. Moreover, u hav vast exp in the Energy sector so u definitely hv a great chance.

Just to clear a few points that SPM is not restricted to Chemical or Mechanical Engineers. Its open to everyone as long as a person wants to join Energy Sector.

Also from this yr onwards SPM is inviting companies separately for Lateral placements where in ppl with work ex will definitely be compensated with a much higher pay package.

Dear Harsh,

Thank you for your excellent reply. I guess I better concentrate on scoring well in CAT.
Wish me luck & you could be my senior next year :)

Also, If you have any questions regarding life in the energy sector I would be happy to help from my limited experience.

u definitely hv a good chance and there is no limitation for grls, just concentrate on ur CAT at present. In my batch there is a 3:1 Male:Female ratio.
Also u hv relevant exp in power transmission so that will be helpful to you.

Hey, I've heard UPES offers one of the best courses in Oil and Gas management. Maybe you should visit their website Welcome to the University of Petroleum & Energy Studies, Dehradun, India.

well just a good website should not b a criteria for evaluating an institute. Do check student profiles of current batches, placement records, fee, faculty, courses offered, location of institute etc
