Me - Not the ONLY condition. But that's one thing that the business should be generating

P1 - Which other calls do u have?
Me - A, I, S, SPJain, XLRI, NMIMS

P2 - So why MDI?
Me - Honestly speaking, leaving apart the top 3 IIMs, MDI scores above all the other b-schools , being relatively older, having a vast alumni base and quality faculty

P1- (Felt a bit abused, as I mentioned MDI below 3 IIMs)
- What is the definition of a "quality faculty"
Me - Being able to train students' mind in such a manner that they land up finally in the correct role 2 yrs down the line. Also, being able to understand industry demands and act as a facilitator between the students and the recruiters.

P2 - Cross question - So why don't you join a placement agency then?
Me - Can't provide all that a b-school provides......

Brief Snapshot of Discussion: Chaotic. Was bound to happen with so many people and such a topic every one was eager to pitch in. Our group was stopped after 8-9 minutes of senseless discussion. Then everyone was asked to summarize about the discussion ( do not give your own views here bhai logo :nono:)in about 30 seconds. Order was random, but everyone was asked to speak.

Other Salient Details: The groups are going to be big in number, and since no results are out yet, you can't expect absentees either. So my advice is if you get a general topic, and its moving toward a fish market scenario, pitch in with a couple of points but be sure that they give a new direction to the discussion or talk of something which hasn't been touched upon. That's the best one can do in such situations :grin:

Also avoid trying to form groups of 2-3 and discussing amongst yourselves, that's the point where our panel decided to pull the plug, so be wary of it. :nono:

Panel Members Intro: 2 pleasant gentlemen
Questions:

It was a very general interview, no acads , more like a chit chat.

Asked why i am working in IT after mech. Discussion went on for a few minutes about the merits of mechanical industry and why IT is not a safe option.

Then it veered off to why MBA after all this and what surety one has of being better placed after an MBA.

Next they asked what other calls I have and why I was dinged by most of the IIM's ( I poured my heart out about the 'grave injustices' and the :banghead: selection criteria. Infact MDI is one of the very few treasured calls i have )

Then they asked if i want to know anything about MDI. Didn't expect this one and so just blurted out no sir ! Should have gone in with some question, but ab to ho gaya jo hona tha

Lasted for around 7-8 minutes. Don't want to dwell on how good or bad it was , just happy that it's done and over with :biggrin:

High hopes riding on this one, fingers crossed

Brief Snapshot of Discussion: Could've been a quality GD but for one aggressive girl who kept blabbing the same redundant points that nobody wanted to discuss. Started the GD and chipped 3/4 more times. Individual summary was given by everyone for 30 secs.

Questions:
Something about my graduation, where my college is, what my course entails.
They asked how my job was related to my graduation and in the group of students, workex was the most questioned area.
Discussion drifted towards petrol and diesel prices. I was asked a question on diesel prices which one panel member answered for me. He was incorrect but I stayed quiet. he looked quite happy with himself.
MISC.
All interviews lasted from 10-15 mins. No stress, barely 5-6 questions. I also noticed that we were being given marks on our boards scores. The methodology was:

>90...10/10
85-90...8/10
80-85....6/10 and so on

I don't think MDI used to give weightage to board scores in the past. I expect the weightage to drop this time.

I was the second last person to be interviewed and was done by 12.

Questions:Was a very informal discussion about the gd first how it could have been better I was asked if I could add any more points and asked hypothetically if I was the best in gd which person did I consider to be the second best and why?Some discussion about my work and why the transition from electronics to IT.Some questions on my home town.Discussion about my reading habits steered it towards football about sir alex and then Chelsea and then was done.Vey short interview hardly about ten minutes hard to gauge but again as past trends show heavy weightage for cat scores hence I don't think these performances in gdpi can improve overall rank much but still hope for the best.:)

Panel Members Intro: P1 was middle aged strict proff. P2 was old strict proff. Both asked almost equal no. of questions. No smiles, no greetings, both looked through me as if I had committed a crime coming inside
Questions:

My interview was the last and had to wait for almost 3 hrs and even then it was the longest. Usually interviews were about 20 mins but mine went on for 35-40 mins.
I was asked everything under the sun ranging from Indian economy, World economy, Service sector, Growth and contribution of different components of the economy, TCS, Wipro, ITES, Agriculture, Kingfisher, Eurozone, Elections, Headlines, Carbon Footprint, Carbon Tax, India's future, My future, Father's business, My aim in life, Hobbies, Qualities of manager, Importance of Passion and Dedication, Innovation I can bring, my future plans regarding father's business, What questions would I ask when recruiting a manager, importance of coaching centres, Engineering vs MBA, What all newspapers i read, Printed newspapers vs online newspapers, india vs china etc etc.......
Dont remember exact questions as it was like a bombardment on me . Next question was asked before I could finish my answer. I was in a trance by the time I came out.
But none of the questions in my interview were the regular Why MBA, Why MDI, Strengths etc etc. types. However such questions were asked from others.
My preparation: 3.5 /5
My experience : 3.5/5 ( Or probably better or worse i dont know) :drinking:

Topic: Presidential form of government is better for India
Number of People present: 11
Time: 3 minutes to gather thoughts, around 12-15 minute discussion, 1 minute to write conclusion.

Brief Snapshot of Discussion: Started well with comparison btwn India and US forms of government. Slowly drifted towards NCTC, federal structure, regional parties. went off topic a bit. I made a couple of entries a few times but was lost somewhere in the ruckus. :sneaky:
Made a point towards the end about how multiparty system in our current form is beneficial/bad and what is actually happening currently in Parliament. (we all know that). It was on the verge of becoming a fish market at a few times but better sense prevailed. Though I doubt we reached any consensus.

Other Salient Details: We were immediately asked to stop discussion and write a conclusion of the discussion and not our own points. Most of us had hardly written 2-3 lines when we were asked to stop and go out.

PI Details:
Panel Members Intro: 2 people. One old professor and other middle aged.
Questions:
When I came in middle aged professor went out. The other one was asking me.
1. If not MBA then what?
I thought he meant what other career options, I started xplaining.

2. No, I mean there are many people who dont have MBA yet they become Managers. How will you become?
Prepared answer. Told

3. Which field do you want to do MBA in?
I told marketing and gave the reason that I was Publicity Head in college, blah blah.

4. Any other field?
HR, again gave reasons and tried to associate the qualities of an HR with that of mine.
(Someone previous me told that they were asking finance questions, so didnt say that. )

5. What do you think about the GD process which just happened?
gave my views on the group and my own analysis.
(Nodded his head, ohh.., yeas, I saw, etc etc)

6. Do you read magazine? news paper? watch news channels?
Told what all I do.

7. What is your expectation from the budget?
I was expecting this question so had read a few good points. Made the points.

8. There is 8% organised labour force like you and me and 92% unorganised labour force. What kind of budget should be made keeping these people in mind.
I wasnt clear what exactly meant by this. So gave a few more ideas where the govt can spend and allocate funds in the budget to help these 92% unorganised force. (As was happening throughout the interview, he kept nodding his head on all the points.)

Then he said I am done. Middle aged professor came in the room and this gentleman then went out. (I was the eight person in the group to be inerviewed so thought probably they were tired hence taking breaks in between.)

9. He looked at my form, and asked u did Engg. in ECE and now in IT company. Why?
A prepared answer so told him.

10. Well again now u have a comfortable job but you want to leave it for MBA. Why?
Again a prepared answer. Gave it.

11. Do you know 3G? What is it? Has it been rolled out? How ws it done? What is d difference between 2G, 3G and 4G? Is 4G available?
These are very common questions for Communication. So had prepared it.

12. Is spectrum a natural resource? yes or no? why do u think its a natural resource. Govt dosent charge for water. why is it charging for spectrum? How much should it charge?
Again tried my level best to answer it. Many ifs and buts in between. But did my best to pacify him.

13. What are your hobbies?
reading novels, watching cricket.

14. You watch cricket? Rahul Dravid retired recently. Which record does he has which even Sachin Tendulkar dosent has. How many runs has he scored? where does he stand in run tally? Who is Vice captain of India?
Cricket questions and I become Harsha Bhogle!! Piece of cake. :grin:

He kept repeating the answers that I gave with a quizzical tone. Initially I was a bit skeptical as to how he was taking it, but when he was behaving the same way to my answers in cricket, knew it was his habit!! :biggrin:

It was a general interview. Most of the people had similar interviews. Chilled out. No academics from anyone. Mine lasted around 12-15 minutes.

Panel Members Intro: Only one member. This was very surprising as I expected atleast 2 ppl in the panel. Have give arnd 10 interviews in life. Never saw a single person as 'panel'.

I was the 3rd in the panel. earlier ppl had almost 15 mins interiew.

P:- where r u frm?
Me :- Blah blah, presetly living in blah blah

P2 :- Did 10 frm some school and 12 from some other? y?

Me:- father in transferable job, so blah blah.

P2:- wht was sardar vallabhbhai's most significant contribution to india? (My college begins frm Sardar Vallabhbhai)

Me:-Integration of country etc etc etc.

Lot of counter questions. He seemed to be very frustrated abt some thing, God knws wht.

P1:-Wht kind of country india is after this integration
Me:- Democratic republic.

P1:-Whts meant by reblic?
Me: I am not sure but i think.
He interuted me here, if not sure then please dont answer.
I was like.

P1:;- How is US's democracy different from india's?

Me:- blah n blah. for my every point he was countering.

P1:-Wht is d name of american form of democracy?
Me:-I strtd spaking abt the system of US but he said please give the name. I said I dont know wht its called

P- U shld have learned this in civics??
Me; (Was feeling like if the interview was for a Social Science teacher or MBA?) I told ya, i knw the system bt the name i dont remember.

P- This shows tht u r irresponsible citizen, u shld knw abt the political fabric of country. this shows ur lack of interst in civics.
Me- Yes sir, civics was never intersted me.

P-(Again asked some term in civics)
Me-- (Why in this world is he stuck with civics, i told na i dont know) I guessed the answer which came right.

P-Why mba?
Me-1)I have gained interst as working in project mgmt- Countered by P as everybody has interest
2) Blah Blah n Blah -countered by P as Blah blah n blah
3)Want to go for entrepreneurship

P- wht is diff in entrepreneurship n mba?
Me= Management is a skill for better entrepreneurship. blah blah.
Again some counter arguments made just for the sake of making counter arguments.

P- thank u, u cn go
Me-() I said I wld like to tell abt my ideas of entrepreneurship.
P- its ok, thank u.

Interview lasted for arnd 7-8 mins, it was rapid fire round kind of interview. There was no eye contact from the panel, he was constantly looking in the form or in space.

Verdict :-It felt tht they just want to finish the interview as soon as possible. CAT score having 70% weightage means that the long list of ppl called for interview is merely a eyewash rather than giving a good oppurtunity to lower percentiles ppl.
Reduction of size of panel for today (it was mostly ppl from 94 and 95 %iles) speaks volumes abt such kind of policy.

Gd : Responsibility of 2G scam
Brief overview : Number of people were 11. GD went smooth, no fish market and everybody had something to speak.

Interview : 2 people in the Panel, both Male

Other people in my group were again asked about 2G but my interview was more based on my profile. Questions were more on why MBA, about my work profile and my extra curricular. Few general questions like

-My views on " Sitting idle and not doing anything is also a kind of management "
-1 good thing and 1 bad thing about today's youth

Rest everything was just general discussion.

All in all was very chilled out..

Given 2-3 mins to think, 12-15 mins for discussion, n then one was chosen by panel to summarise. Panel consisted of 2 members, one old man n other in his 40s, same panel for interview.

Although I was the first one, but candidates were called in random order for interview.

Ques were centred around "why MBA after Physiotherapy"... He was keen on persuading me that I shud go for masters in Physio n not management..
Cant comment anything about interview... He was pressing me that I alrdy have a bright career in a mushrooming field of Physio... I explained that I wanna go for entrepreneurship n so on as a long term goal in life.. but he was like.. my experience in physio will be enough to convert me into responsible manager....

God knows how was my interview...!!
Anyway..just keeping fingers crossed..!!
