[image] SVKMs Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS), is going to herald in big changes in its admission process for the 2013 batch. Besides doing away with the conventional 'Group Discussion' (GD), it is planning to introduce additional elements in its online entrance test - NMIM...

If it is section in NMAT online test, I think this decision making section will be in line with XAT and let me tell you that is really very ambigous and i have seen answers to such questions varying from individual to individual. Instead of that some psychometric test could have been much better. Anyway, we have to adjust.I didnt understand this sentence,"Registrations from NMAT 2013 have opened"? Seriousl? I didn't find the link on NM site. Can anyone help me?

The Supreme Court has extended its last year's stay order on the AICTE notification that had sought to do away with major MBA entrance exams in favour of only the CAT and MAT. For the coming admission season of 2012-13 too, PGDM institutes can continue their admission processes on the basis of ...

@Apurv: Brilliant Article Apurva. My Favourite Line: "If someone has been a slacker for 20 years, chances that an isolated 99 percentile in the CAT is going to change the basic personality type are low." ROFL Wondering what is the logic behind this conclusion? Is it not that every student goes through the same life-cycle of Growth, Maturity and then Decline?? Is it not that chances of a guy who who has recently(past 4-5 years) developed a thirst for the knowledge/success to exceed is much much more than a guy who had been at the top throughout?? Anything and everything that grows up and reaches that stage is bound to come down. If a guy has started picking up late, chances of his justifying the degree is much more than the one who was a born topper and, as you put, sincere muggers. Who remains on the top forever? When Australia ruled the world cricket for almost a decade, did they not decline? Based on the Classical Philosophy that you have put above, i wonder why did ICC not give Australia an additional edge over rest of the teams in the 2011 world cup...lol Wish we came out of our obsession of getting grace marks on the name of caste, creed, sex, badge etc. Good acads, specific caste, sex is no parameter to Judge the IQ, Integrity, Passion, Ambition, Vision, Social Responsibility etc. IIMs must work out ways to make sure that guys who could not showcase their abilities in mugging up things and excelled here among 2+ lacs candidates have a much brighter chance to do justice to the degree and Institute given that they show and prove themselves in next rounds. It is not only unfair on the part of IIMs but also unethical to overlook a guy with 100 percentile and call someone who scored 6 marks more in some Physical Education some 8 years back either by showing some yogasana or by polishing the teacher. Pity!

If academics is so important, her is my 2 cents: 1. Let CAT be prelims round 2. Let there be a mains round with two optional papers 3. Let there be an essay section. 4. Let there be a Psychometric Test to evaluate if what you are projecting is genuinely you or you trying to be someone else. 5. Let there be corporate kind of interviews for Work-ex guys. 6. Let there be case-studies to check if have the capabilities to solve complex scenarios. 7. Take a test for leadership skills with group tasks or devise some other ways to test it.(Last year, i saw an IIM-B gaal committing suicide merely because her bf posted something on FB. No offence intended but then whats wrong in testing one's emotional/psycholgical quotient and check if they can handle pressure or not....Get tips from Raghu of Roadies) :-P 8. Let there be interviews post this. I know that 8 points mentioned here might look like too much but at least it won't need any scaling and it won't have anything to do with your past sins or gender or your trade like Finance or CA or Law etc. Everything is relative but if you boast of being the ideal, you gotta make them absolute.

Life in India begins in an intellectually challenged system. Even before you start crawling, parents start engaging to make your career. A rich dad asks another rich dad about the schools and so does a middle class or poor dad. After too much of home work they put them in a school. If we leave the creamy 5% of people, how many can afford a world class education, everyone knows. Now, you get into an ordinary school. You are taught: 1/0 is infinity; question the teacher how and you are blacklisted. When you go to labs for which every school has got good share of marks, you meet challenged instructors. If you say ya ya to all they teach, you get 20/20. If you do not, you get 10, 12. Your parents and friends tell you they do not make any difference; concept matters. You end up in 70s and 80s if not less, you move on after being pitied by neighbours, kins etc. You apply for XIIth. By now, you know CBSE/ICSE etc doesn't make much difference, concepts do. Many opt for PUC(govt). You get nothing from schools. Teachers, Masha Allah! You are suggested, XIIth doesn't make difference, an IIT does. You run after FIIT-JEE, Bansal and several other stars local scholars. They take admission on entrance tests, agreed, but for guys above XX percent in Xth. You are said, teachers dont make difference. You study at an ordinary coaching institute and try best. You write IIT, AIEEE and your center gets cancelled because soome Lord Krishna came to write for someone. You land in some college. You get masha allah faculties who might not be able to perform a BODMAS operation too. By now, you are an expert in clearing exams by overnight studies. You pass your btech. You struggle among lacks for placements. You are talented, you manage one. Now, you work for some MNC. That MNC trains you in X technology and asks you to work on Y or may be asks you to sit on bench. You are talented! You cope up! You perform great in projects. A fellow guys name who hardly coded anything is recommended for the Star Performer; Aaah he was a south indian/north Indian or a pet. By now, you are inured to such things. You burn candles at both ends and write CAT,for the MOST ADMIRED RELIGIOUS INSTITUTES in India; You know that these are the courts where you shall get the justice, you believe that it is here that no charlatans can tailgate ever. Then you realize that not only your past sins of asking the lab-instructor questions or having picked up a wrong center for your IIT-JEE or having been not able to made it to good coaching institute or to an IIT, AIIMS, JNU, DU etc or to have not licked your PM for that "Star Performer" award but also you the sins of having not been a FEMALE, SC/ST/OBC(given that an SC/ST guy who is an IAS son had access to travelling in Toyota while your dad took years to get you a bicycle) and Having not studied Accounts/Finance/Social Studies etc leaves you no room for correction wherever. You are doomed! You have no rights to dream. You can do away with all your sins but can yo do away with a SYSTEM that is called "INDIA"??
