Wait! Did PG just find out that almost every marketing competition at B-school fests for the last 3-4 years has had at least one round judged by number of 'Likes' on Fb? Where it inevitably becomes a contest of which team has the largest friendlist. Sorry but this format was innovative years ago, not today.

@ChinmayBhide Prometric is a private organization and the rules of the RTI Act do not apply to them. Again, this has been tried in the past.

Based on what I have seen across B-schools, I honestly believe there is a high level of callousness in Indian B-school faculty towards their students/aspirants. Serious problems have occurred every year in the CBT CAT, but they have mostly been met by plain ostrich-like denial from the conducting institutes and corporate jargon from Prometric. The impression I get is that the profs have been teaching so many batches over so many years, they find it difficult to keep the aspirant in mind. This probably explains the bizarre criteria that the top instis come out with from time to time as well, including IIM K's (Ig) Nobel Prize winning statistical model.

@angod CTC 1: 18 LPA. CTC 2: 16 LPA. You can PM me for any further details (as long as you don't post screenshots of my reply on PG). Variable pay and joining bonus typically should not be factored into take-home as they are usually paid once/twice a year. And while the IIMA report is spot on, there would be a significant difference between AVERAGE post-tax (or pre-tax for that matter) and MEDIAN post-tax salary.

@angod I worked for one before my MBA. Interned with one during my summers. Not mentioning names because of confidentiality issues, but one is an FMCG and the other a bank. And I am referring to their final placement offers - you don't have to necessarily get an offer from a company to know how much it pays. And Yes, if you take away tax, your figures would be pretty Ok, though the Tier 1 would be between 70-75 K. ABC median 1 LPM I am not so sure about (high batch sizes and all that).

@angod I'll give you a simple example using a couple of companies I've worked for/interned with. Both are Day Zero at campuses like XLRI IIM L SP and at least Day 1 at ABC. Both of them have between 90K-1 L take-home per month. It is statistically impossible for the median take-home to be equal to that of a Day Zero company.

@sb29 Sorry, should have pointed out the MDI comment was not directed at you.

I do get your point about no uniform classification and it depends completely on the company. In that context, I think the choice of college should be largely dependent on one's area of interest, no point looking beyond the Top 3-5 if you are really interested in a career in private equity/front-end investment banking/Big 4 consulting, while someone keen on marketing will typically have a lot more choice.

@sb29 I am sure you would be aware that Citibank's MA programme has different profiles. A little checking would tell you the difference in profiles offered between the schools you have compared (though with batch size increases, certain backend profiles are also being offered at places like SP).

The key takeaway: A sales and marketing role in an FMCG at 14 LPA has better growth and career potential than an IT Leadership Programme in an FMCG at 18 LPA. As you will always hit a ceiling after a while in the latter role.

Lastly, without having any particular interest in the college, the thought of MDI as a Tier 2 school makes me laugh.

@Volition Publishing the internal discussions of a private forum just to spice up the article? Even criminals accused of capital crimes are allowed confidential discussion with their lawyers. When ostensibly this article is meant to focus on the RTI reply, what is the point of it all? And why 2 articles on the same school, with no hint of this acclaimed 'investigative journalism' into the frauds that are passed off as placement reports in India? And then PG claims not to be biased.

Oh, and good luck finding the truth about average salaries by filing RTIs at other Govt B-schools. PG already tried some caper of the sort at IIM B a few years ago.

Congratulations Apurv! Rebekah Brooks would have been proud of you. If only you'd gotten around to this a year or so ago, a career with News of the World would have beckoned!

I look forward to the 'exposes' of other B-schools, but given the taste behind this latest article, maybe I should check back later this week for Kate Middleton's photos in France instead.
