I suspect the revised fee for IIFT is just the beginning and more colleges will start increasing their fee from this year.... Given the current recession this isnt quite the right step.... However there is hardly anything we can do at this point except pay up the fee.

One suggestion to the seniors who should speak to the admins about it - IIFT must tie up with SBI or other sarkari banks so that the scholar loan limit of 10 lacs is increased to about 13 lacs at least (Fees + hostel + mess + laptop + other chutput expenses)..... Its very unfair on part of banks to offer just 10 lacs when the actual expenses are at least 13 lacs (not counting cost of clothing esp Suits :P)

Seniors, any possibility here?

true....there need to have provision to get at least the amount to be paid to the IIFT... 3 lac is not small saving...for anyone.....excluding the next two years expenses...

Number of participants: 8..(6M..2F)
Duration: 15-20 min
Brief snapshot of discussion: i initiated the discussion and overall it ws nice discussion with very few instances of more than 1 people speaking simultaneously.i believe my participation was good..

About the panel i think they were panelists..
Panelists Intro: Gloryson R B Chalil (GC)-XLRI - Jamshedpur :: Faculty
Bijaya K. Mangaraj-(BM)XLRI - Jamshedpur :: Faculty
Ram kumar kakani-(RK) XLRI - Jamshedpur :: Faculty

Some words about the panel and its general behavior/conduct: good behavior and looked indifferent initially but took interest at later part of interview.

PI Questions: as i had IIFT convert so went with very casual and open mind.
Also in morning thy were taking interview for 15-20 min but i dont know why...later they just took 5-10 min for last 2-3 candidates prior to me, and i was last to be interviewed so was not expecting a lot either.
GC- tell me something about ur family....also ask for file simultaneously...
S-told
GC- how is delhi different from rest of india?
S- sory sir..which city..
GC- Delhi
S- it is capital of India, it is union territory, it has lieutenant govt...(was thinking that these r not unique)
GC- that is just 3...else
S- as a matter of fact, the house of president of india is in delhi only...so is of prime minister....so lokshaba and rajshaba is in delhi only...also red fort is in delhi only...kind of very fluent ...and smiling
BM- so ur course is BA
S- yes sir it is BA(H) Business Economics.. all looked surprised as if i have told something unusual.....well i kept on describing the course..nd told we learned the application of economics and else..
BM..(he ws asking just mathematics with every candidates..)-- have u heard of partial differentiation...
S- yes sir
BM- so what is the application of it.
S- umm..sir..we use it to find average cost..profit ....suddenly he gave me notepad to illustrate with example...
i able to write equation and explained them...

BM-..looked satisfied...but he just write a differential equation and ask what is it..
S- sir differential equation..
BM- which kind of..
S-- dnt know sir...he said something but i said...sir not heard of it...
BM- write 4*2 matrix and ask me to find determinant..
i was just about to solve...but my mind click....sir determinant can not be found as row not equal to column..
BM- so how many new determinant can be formed...
S- sir..1..2..3....sir finally 8
Bm- how
S- sir 4*2= 8
bm- and how many 2*2..
s- sir that is 8..we cant have 3*3 determinant...
bm- what is relation between linear equation and matrix.
s- sir we can use matrix to solve linear equation..
bm- he wrote two equation and asked me to solve...i solved....he said...what if i gave u 5000 equation and asked u to solve ..how would u find the solution..
s- sir frankly speaking..i could not solve manually...i need software...
bm-- haan..i know...okies tell me...what is the maximum no of variable we can find ans of this 5000 equation using matrix..

i was literal puzzled but ask for some time to think and come up with a ans..which i believe was correct...

GC- which state has cheapest petrol in india..
s- (slowing smiling...)- sir with the recent reduction in VAT in GOA..it is cheapest in india...there was reduction of rs11

GC- does it impact other state of india...
s- yes sir...neighbouring states...explained in details...that sir..people from neighboring village would get their tank filled from GOA...at cheap rate as happen in delhi with the CNG...and there will be shortage of petrol in goa...

RK- what did u do in last one year..i m 2011 pass out and dropped the year..
s- said about my goal..hw MBA is imp...so prepared for entrance...told about my IIFT convert and NMIMS waiting list..
RK- what are ur hobbies..
s- told.. some question on it...
RK- do u know griffin goods...i misunderstood it as giffen goods and tried explaining..he cut me in and lucidly explain the meaning and ask me to quote a example of it in services...(it is goods like diamond)
s- sir...five star hotel...explained ..also....popular DJ in disco

RK said okies and asked me to wait outside..

i went outsides and kind of surprised to think that they are interested in me...looking at other candidates response, i was really happy that i able to speak for most of interview..but was tensed..what next...now i really wanted to have convert here..that really triggered my nerve...BAD thing...

they called me back after few minutes...

GC- what are ur career goals..

was expecting it...but i did not had ny concrete answer for HR...and i dnt want to cook anything there...
so went on saying that over a time i wanted to be in general management of an organisation....and try explaining it..

but he said....sandeep, i believe, HRM would not be best path for it..and kind of an indirect route...

i tried to defends but with not so concrete ans..i gave up...this was really bad feeling..nd nw onwards i just wanted to finish the interview..dnt kno why...

(add later) GC- sandeep..if i select u to XLRI, what would u learn there
s- again not solid ans..but tell something about learning...
GC-if i select u for XLRI, what r the difficulties u would face there..
s- not solid ans..just said something..

somehow i mention about pagalguy and senior....
GC asked me that how did pagalguy help u in preparation for XAT and interview...

GC- your medium of studies in school....

anything u want to ask
s- umm..no sir

i know i just could not managed my last part of interview...clearly showed my disinterest for HR....but it would be great convert for me...if it happen....
but i really enjoyed my last interviewed and could say...the most frightening interview turn out to be most learning....nd i'll always cherish it...

the final part was abt to come...

when i left the room..there was a guilt feeling in me that i could have done better...and could answer my goal properly...
as i was leaving...dnt know why..i went to the panelist..(i was the last to be interviewed so they were moving for lunch)...and told them that...

sir...i believe in continuous improvement....and i m improving every day...and if not selected..i would join IIFT and and i will certainly come to XLRI...for participation in events...and whenever we meet, u will find a better person out of me....

i dnt know if it make an impact..but i didnt want to miss last chance..and feeling good now....and will accept whatever result come...

Any other details that you think are relevant:
Your advice for future aspirants: just feel casual...nd tried to cherish time in interview...later i realized that they were not in mood to take long interview even for me...as they return my file just in 5 min...but i didnot care and kept on answering...and interview last for good times..

Verdict:
Converted...:)

Good Luck

Interview Centre:- 16 feb..Delhi

Essay topic:- A strong legislation require effective enforcement
Comments about your performance : it was good topic with much to write about....so think before writing..cz of page constraint especially for me because of my writing habit...

GD topic and a description:- should recruiter favor MBA over non MBA

it was nice discussion..though their was little scope for discussion as every one was in favor of topic in my GD group.. however i come up with few new angle in the discussion ... also the fact that i know quite a few in my GD group..so it ws cordial discussion..
i would say..i ws good as far as content was concerned but their needed improvement in communication skills.

Personal Interview:- i say panelist.. M1..F1...F2

F1- so you are a economic student...
S- yes mam... it is actually Business economics...run from south campus, DU
F1- so u must have studied economics
S- yes mam
F1-(here start the grilling..she actually teach economics)..so u heard of Kinked demand curve... ohh leave ...tell me what is indifference curve...what is budget line.. what is cardinal and ordinal indifference curve...
S- (when heard about kinked demand curve..kind of got blank..but she herself change the Q..) answer indifference curve..and explain it bit...

S- could answer ..was nt confidence...but later find answer correct..
F1- what is oligopoly....
S- it is the market where their are few seller nd lots of buyers...
F1( stopped midway..) hw is it different from monopoly...
S- mam, their is single or two producer but in oligopoly..
F1(stopped midway)-- two producer..but that is called..
S-( i simultaneously said.).mam that is duopoly...
F1- she gave me notepad..nd ask me to draw....hw does prices are determined in different market..mainly perfect competition and oligopoly...
S- (till now really low on confidence)..started drawing something...as i stopped for a second to recollect something..she stopped me and ask to give back notepad...
F1- she said...finally last question...(i ws really happy to listen this).. what is monopolistic competition...
S- uff yaar..at least ask something else from micro economics... by this time i ws confused between al kind of market...but could answer it with confidence...and was happy that she is not going to grill again....
but was really feeling sad cz i feel i could not impress her with my answer...

F2 takes over...
F2- so r u following current news..
s- (finally some smile on face)- yup mam
f2- so what do u know about recent blast on Auranzeb Road...
s- said that it ws attack on Israili diplomat vehicle with new format..kind of sticky bomb...mention that wife of diplomat was injured....
f2- so what is Iranian connection to it...
s- said that there is allegation that iranian could be behind the blast
f2- but why is this blast happened in India..and why is it important...
s- said mam..cz of new sanction by US against iranian Nuclear programme...india is highest importer of iranian crude oil in present and it could cause international unrest...
f2- she again asked...but why is iranian is doing blast in india...
s- ( i ws little irritate inside) however with a smile nd heavy voice i said.... mam...it is just an allegation and their is no truth as of now that iranian is doing this blast...there are hundred of terrorist organization and it could be done by any one...

it has brought some confidence in me also M1 takes over now onward...

m1- so do u know about the current account nd its figure..
s- i said al the figure..
m1- so there is deficit of around 100 billion dollar...
s- yes sir...
m1- what is the foreign reserve with RBI
s- around 300 billion doller
m1- so how does RBI able to accumulate so much of foreign reserve when it is suffering deficit...
s-..oopss....well i said....sir we have other components..like remittance from NRI of around 50 Billion dollar...we have FDI of around 20 Billion... FII of around 20....and then RBI do purchase in foreign market...
m1- does not look satisfied..
s- i kept on saying..sir since 1991..we have had over 200 billion dollar of accumulative FDI...and others...but i dont know..what was he looking for...

finally all said...thank u...u can go..and all the best..

i was like..what ws that...

Any other comments - DELHI CONVERT...
i would say that one need to be calm and pleasing all the time...it helps u in tense interview....

also for FRESHER...i would say....try to score good written score so as to mitigate the some of benefit work ex guys gets..
Also i would say...fresher have less area to talk about in interview compare to them..so dnot feel bad if thing dont go as u planned..as i ws not asked even a single question on hobbies..career goal..or else...

# i dropped a year after graduation but i was not asked anything on it...

All the best !!

well i have a query for puy regarding eligibility..
well it was mention that one should have completed graduation by 1-7-2011, and the thing is, the issue date on my graduation mark sheet shows 15-7-2011.

so does this going to play in interview,or banks would come up with new eligibility for the interview as this was eligibility for ibps exam only. this is what i believe.
plz put some insight.
thanks.

Group Discussion - Group Discussion in IIFT is very unique. It goes on for around 45 minutes to 1 hour depending upon the panel. There are around 10 people in the group. Initially everyone will be given a chance to express his/her views on the topic for 2 minutes. After that the discussion will be made open for another 20-30 minutes. Not only this, you will also have to play the role of a moderator at some point of time. The sequence of getting to moderate the group is upto the discretion of the panel. While you are a moderator, you will have to make sure that the discussion is going in the right direction and there is no fish market.

.

i have a query regarding GD for senior.

well it is said that we better put first outline to a GD in spite of randomly discussing it.
well as said by prince, we will be first getting 2 min to put our view. so what does senior think that we should speak initially, i mean do we just put outline in this 2 min or on open discussion.
also if there is need to put forward outline in open discussion, then what all should we be speaking in these 2 min, say on any random current topic..on which we have many thing to talk about.

thanks

As I am not from the commerce background, I am not too sure about it. But what I know for sure is that you can expect a lot of academic questions thrown at you. For example they can ask you about some accounting terms. I will ask one of my batchmate from commerce background to write about his interview experience to give you an idea.

It depends on the way you take forward your interview. They don't expect you to know everything, in fact they are there just to know you better. It's entirely upto you how you project your interests in front of them. If you tell them that I am interested in marketing, they are not going to ask you anything related to finance.

it would be really helpful if u can ask someone from commerce/economic background to share his interview experience and his saying on preparation..
i myself was looking for any such interview but could not locate even in 2010-2012 interview thread...

well i am a economic graduate and also had commerce at 12th standard. well so i have really poor knowledge in science domain be it basic science. so is it advisable to brush up some science or it is fine to delve into economics and affairs as mentioned earlier in the thread...

Also going by the interview threads for the last two years, i have hardly seen panels asking science.. it is either related to candidates subject or other currents affairs...

edit- i am a fresher
