Hi, I am Ranajoy. Let me give a brief summary of myself before I place my question on the table:

Educational Background: B.Pharm

Total Exp: 4 yrs

Past Experience Breakup: 1.6 yrs (U.S Healthcare Insurance Analytics+SAS)+2.3 yrs (Clinical SAS Analytics).

Present Experience: Retail Consumer Finance Analytics- Marketing division (Retail Cards)

2 years down the line I want to pursue an executive MBA and I wish to work in either campaign or credit card analytics field. Am in a fix as to what electives should I focus into. Am planning to focus on marketing electives or finance electives but as you can understand that as am not from a finance background, would it be a risky proposition to take finance elective in a 1 yr executive MBA program?

If I intend to take up finance electives can you let me know how should I prepare myself from now to understanding financial concepts to come at par. Are there any pre-requisites I should complete before taking up finance electives?

the SAS certified business analyst certifications will test you on core statistical concepts like ANOVA,hypothesis testing, Regression(Linear,Logistic)..u can go to the sas website and check for the testing areas..howsoever there is no certification book as such...i presume if you have knowledge of sas coding and statistical concepts you can read the chapters on your own and then sit for the test

Ooops!! Sorry for being too technical. Like I said I will be completing 4 years of exp this june and am planning to work for more 2 years before I opt for an executive MBA.
Now the quintessential point is am working in a field of business intelligence- finding key insights from data patterns. Its more inclined towards presenting such insights on the foundations of which lie core technical knowledge. Ocassionally what I find is a technical savvy person explores more into that domain but on the contrary as I aspire for an MBA, I wish to gain this business acumen.
Somewhere i was reading that business magazines help you out on this but at the same time, i find many topics written in a manner which a business person will be able to decipher( for example: topics on hedge funds, finance). Some said that a CABM(Certified Associate Business Manager) certification would help to understand the depths but I am not very confident about the authenticity of this credential. Can you help me out to increase this business acumen natually.

I have heard about the CABM certification but am not sure about its value in. Some elevate it to be a very good pre-MBA profile development module while others are quite skeptical regarding its advantage. So can you help me out with this dilemma?

Apart from this usually when one solves business case studies for practice especially a non-mba background professional he might be presented with varies topics be it in supply demand/finance/strategy. To solve these one might need to have a good insight.so can you let me know as how to develop such business acumen?

Hi,

This is Ranajoy.I am penning down this query which if replied will really help me to channelize my direction ahead in a proper manner.

I have passed my Bachelors in Pharmacy in the year 2009 post which I worked in Healthcare Insurance Domain as an Assistant Clinical Analyst for 1.5 yrs.

Within this timeframe I did a Statistical Analysis Course (SAS) and am presently working in TCS as an Statistical Analyst for Clinical Trials for the past 1 year.So my total experience accounts to something around 2.5 yrs.

I want to excel in the field of healthcare analytics and thus I want to get an MS degree in healthcare administration from US.The other plausible approach that I can follow is working in this domain for few more years an then get into an MBA with an elective as healthcare.

Am really in afix as to which option will be more suitable for me?Kindly provide your feedback

Hi rsanyal42
The pharma management course here is a conglomerate of all the management subjects that general MBA students have as well as pharma related subjects like pharmacology and pharma manufacturing. These technical subjects are important because before joining any pharma industry, you should know the technicalities and thus should be able to head various employees. The placements are very good here with companies like Eli Lilly, Sun Pharma, Novartis, Biocon, etc.being our major recruiters. I hope I have answered your query...

hi khanshahbaz,
thank you so much for the reply.your guidance indeed helped.i have more query related to my previous one.the highest, median salary stated in sies website states the general information.as i am only interested in pharma mba it would be of great help if you can elucidate the placement figures related to pharma...i.e what was the highest and median salary offered for pharma sector?
