Hi Rahat,

I would recommend that you specialize in finance and marketing. If you are looking to go back to IT, there is no single specialization that caters to it although there are a few subjects offered under IT and operations....and the IT recruiters do not look for any specific area while recruiting....they give importance to your work ex, your domain and knowledge of IT business...

Marketing is a good option to have to hedge your risks if things dont go according to plan.....in these turbulent times, a dual specialization helps you to become eligible to a broader range of jobs....

Dear twiseblessedman,

Thanks for the prompt response,

However a quick question.
1) Is marketing in GL cver mainly FMCG type which is much different from IT sales. I mean will it help me in IT sales to be precise..
Since I am way away from FMCG Sales, Should I take Operations since it contains IT subjects instead of marketing.

2) I wish to move into IT sales and then into Mergers & acquisition later. I believe Finance will definitely help me in that.

In that sense I will be able to hedge my risks by operations rather than marketing.

With the above profile and aspirations would Operations + finance be a better fit.

Could you kindly suggest.

Hi friends,
I am planning to attend CAT for the 1st time in NOV 09. Now I am a Software engineer with work experience of 36 months. My current pay is around 7.5 lakhs per annum.
I am working with a very prestigious european investment bank for last 7 months (amongst top 3 in europe). I am completely bored with IT job.So now seriously want to change my job profile and want to do MBA by this year itself. I am looking for a more functional role (BA/Senior BA), am really pissed with ma present role.
Following is my profile.
Academic Profile:
10th - 70%
12th - 58%
B.E(IT) - 65% (from non IIT / NIT , but amongst top 5 colleges in state)
Got many prizes in my previous job. Certificates in technical competencies (oracle, microsoft).
Work Profile:
1st company - 12 months (start up company)
2nd company - 17 months (Cambridge Solutions)
3rd company - 7 months (amongst top 3 investment banks in europe , overall 15 globally)
Started my Cat prep by April. I am strong in VA. So working hard in Quants and DI , hope to be be commando mode come this November.
But since I can attempt only this year due to personal reasons plz let me know if Great Lakes would be suitable and what is the placement scope at Great Lakes , a decent package (around 15 lakhs pa + bonus / variable, I guess if I continue with my job I would be earning around 10 lakhs pa. in the 1 years).
What is the GMAT score / CAT percentile required to get a call from Great Lakes. Would my profile be suitable? I would be applying for Great Lakes , so when do we get forms ?
Please put urself in my shoes and help me in applying for all the apt institutes so that I wont regret my decision after one years.
Thanks in advance!

Lemme answer to your Query:-

It seems from your mail that MBA is a new stuff for you...Most of the information you sought is available on GL website.. I believe you need to do a bit of homework on the following:-
1) Purpose of doing MBA.... If it is purely money chuck it...
2) How will your present job augment to your MBA...
3) do you really crave to do an MBA..If yes why ?....

I think you need to do some introspection and find the answers to these question ...Regarding the Date of application , package, placements etc you can get that information from internet.....

Hope this helps..

This is one of the things (wrt sabbaticals) that is bound to happen when things are bad...(I have been contemplating about it.....Kautilya did better).Others being you can no longer participate in the campus placements the moment you have an offer a ppo or otherwise....(I am not sure what policy GLIM was or is following)...All these policies depend on the market conditions and are not permanent......

Kautilya1003 dude wonderful info......if you could share some more ....plz.
Thanks and Regards

Hi,

Are people on education leave not allowed to sit in the placements in GLIMs.....seniors please suggest.

Thanks for the detailed info. By NRI i surely didnt mean world class.
I am among the those who is more interested in learning about the Business model of Bharti Telecom, Tata, Birlas then say Walmart :-P.

I just put in here info that i got from interactions with students from the Champions batch when i went campus visiting last week, so that people like you can clarify or substantiate that, so that all of us here can make some informed decision.
Please note i am in no way demeaning Great Lakes or its faculty.

Hi,

Can somebody comment for my case. I am IT guy with around 5 years Exp(client facing as well) ...I was thinking of going on study Leave gor GLIMS....now my company is hesitant to send me on study leave in as attempt to retain me....My present company offers good package and role to MBA who return from study leave...Now I am in a dilemma if my office doesnt accept my Leave proposal then I will have to resign ..I always wanted to go for MBA...I am confident about my potentials but just to have something in hand as a worst case contingency I wanted to retain my job ....In present Job and market scenario will it be justified for me to resign and join GLIMS.

Could someone comment

Hello,

Most of the colleges have an policy of declaring the placement report only after the entire batch is placed or end of term, whichever is earlier. Same may be the case for GL.

Seniors, please correct me.

PS: I dont think this thread is moderated any more. Better ask queries in the admissions Thread.

Thanks for the response..Baseline of my question is my dilemma of joining GLIMS..I know it is pre-mature discssion since we are still to get final calls..

I am Analyst in top IT company for around 5 years( 1 year foreign Exp) ...Now wanna go into sales... I have scope of going again to onsite wherein I can groom my profile further... With me joining GLIMS, my dependency in office would come to an end.... with Economic crisis buidling up, do I have probability of running into risk (both career and money) ....

Pros of joining:-
1) My Dream of gettin into sales
2) probablity of switchiing to other domain post MBA
3) Better Package

Probable Cons of joining
1) If economy doesnt recover, I may land up in tough env with low salary.
2) My company may take me back but may be with lesser package and/or improper role.
3) Since I may not get the project post joining back, I might run into risk
of loosing my job if economy tightens further
4) Loss of Fee Amount + 1 year salary + probable saving in deputation

Nee comments
