@anirs oportunity cost can never be averaged out like that. Some factors can simply never be represented as an arithmetic mean. The difference between opportunity cost for each student will always be 11 lacs for an mba from ISB vis-a-vis from XLRI

@bany4mba @anirs : The reason why most companies prefer to recruit in April-May is very obvious. After the financial year end on March 31st, the new hiring budgets come into action 1st April onwards.. thus they know exactly how many people they need and in what roles for the new business year. Most business dailies like ET, BS, etc also report these hiring treads for the new year in April. Also, from HR's point of view, it is smart to recruit people towards the end of their academic year because the probability of them joining increases substantially. If recruited 6-8 months in advance, the candidates might continue scouting for another better opportunity on their own and will have enough time to find one too.

@anirs How is XLRi or GMP responsible if the students do something that is unethical. Its not like the institute is encouraging this. But this is simply human nature.. people don't want to miss out on opportunities. I am no one to judge them, but just highlighting that this happens and it happens everywhere when the candidate is given a green signal to search for a job on his/her own.

50% students at XLRI GMP have been placed via the placement process, but there are plenty others who have secured jobs off-campus, as Feb onwards, people were allowed to approach companies on their own. Now, these people do not declare that they have already got offers, so that they can sit for the companies coming to campus as well. If by May, they still do not get placed via campus, they would come forward and declare that they have a job, and join it.. this happens every year. So, you should have the real figures only by June first week.

1 important point regarding ISB: Their placement figures always state the number of offers made vis-a-vis the number of students. But please visit the campus and talk to the present batch students before making your decision. The reason being, about 10-15% of the batch receives more than 3 offers, whereas about 10% of the batch does not get placed at all. Also, a lot of offers are also in the range of 8-10 lacs per annum. So, ISB can conveniently count these as offers, but these offers are useless, as no one would take up an 8 lac job after shelling out 27 lacs in fees. These stats are conveniently hidden in their placement report. Ofcourse, from long term perspective, the ISB brand is well recognised in the industry. But for the placement game, talk to the current students to get the real picture.

@ABSharma I had paid the initial fees, but if you remember, my first preference was to go to singapore for mba. Me withdrawing admission from XLRI GMP is not a reflection on the program, but just a preference. Since, I got into an MBA program in singapore of my choice, I am bidding farewell to the XLRI mba.
