In a shooting competition, each player in his turn takes 3 shots at the target. The competition starts with first player taking 3 shots, followed by second player taking three shots and so on. After the last player has taken the shots, the turn comes back to the first player who again takes 3 shots then second player takes 3 shots and so on. For each player if he hits the target he gets 3 points while no point is awarded to or desucted from the other players, whereas is he misses1 point is deducted from his score and 1 point is awarded to each of the other competitors. The first player(s) to reach the 100 points mark will be declared as the winner(s) of the competition. Once the winner(s) is/are decided, the competition ends.Exactly 5 players A, B, C, D and E participated in the competition, with their turns not necessarily being in the same order. At the end of the competition, D alone won the competition and had the same number of misses as that of A. The net score of C was 74 points and he registered same number of hits as that of B. The net scores of the players whose turns were third, fourth and fifth were in the descending order. There were a total of 86 hits and 54 misses.
Q.1.) What was the number of hits registered by E ?
a)14 b)15 c)16 d)Cannot be determined
Q.2.) Who had the second least number of misses ?
a) A b) E c) B d) C
Q.3.) The player whose turn was fourth is...
a) A b) B c) C d) Cannot be determined
Q.4.) The net score of A was ?
a) 75 b) 90 c) 95 d)Cannot be determined
Q.5.) What is the difference between the net scores of B and D ?
a) 21 b) 24 c) 22 d)Cannot be determined
Anyone can help me out with this question??...How to solve this case..??

TOTAL PTS :140*3=420

sHOTS hitS miss PTs Person Pts
1st 30 16 14 5*16 - 6 C 74

2nd 29 21 8 5x21 - 4 D 101

3rd 27 19 8 5x19 A 95

4th 27 16 11 5x16 B 80

5th 27 14 13 5x14 E 70

Shot 27 : Pts :3x - (27-x) + (54- (27 - x)) = 5x ( x hits )
Shots 30: Pts :3x - (30-x) + (54- (30 - x)) = 5x - 6 ( x hits )

Shots 30: Pts :3x - (29-x) + (54- (29 - x)) = 5x - 4 ( x hits )

Option D.

The period when the great painted caves at Lascaux and Altamira were occupied by Upper Paleolithic people has been established by carbon-14 dating, but what is much more difficult to determine are the reason for their decoration ,the use to which primitive people put the caves, and the meaning of the magnificently depicted animals.

In recent years cattle breeders have increasingly used crossbreeding,in part that their steers should acquire certain characteristics and partly because crossbreeding is said to provide hybrid vigor.
(A) in part that their steers should acquire certain characteristics

Option E.
The wild mouflon sheep of the island of Corsica are direct descendants of sheep that escaped from domestication on the island 8,000 years ago. They therefore provide archaeologists with a picture of what some early domesticated sheep looked like, before the deliberate selective breeding that produced modern domesticated sheep began.
The argument above makes which of the following assumptions?
(A) The domesticated sheep of 8,000 years ago were quite dissimilar from the wild sheep of the time.
(B) There are no other existing breeds of sheep that escaped from domestication at about the same time as the forebears of the mouflon.
(C) Modern domesticated sheep are direct descendants of sheep that were wild 8,000 years ago.
(D) Mouflon sheep are more similar to their forebears of 8,000 years ago than modern domesticated sheep are to theirs.
(E) The climate of Corsica has not changed at all in the last 8,000 years.

E seems to be the assumption.

Guys..a couple of questions have really confused me..please provide explanation with your ans:

1.A recent review of pay scales indicates that CEOs now earn an average of 419 times more pay than blue-collar workers, compared to a ratio of 42 times in 1980.

A. that CEOs now earn an average of 419 times more pay than blue-collar workers, compared to a ratio of 42 times
B. that, on average, CEOs now earn 419 times the pay of blue-collar workers, a ratio that compares to 42 times
C. that, on average, CEOs now earn 419 times the pay of blue-collar workers, as compared to 42 times their pay, the ratio
D. CEOs who now earn on average 419 times more pay than blue-collar workers, as compared to 42 times their pay, the ratio
E. CEOs now earning an average of 419 times the pay of blue-collar workers, compared to the ratio of 42 times

2. Soaring television costs accounted for more than half the spending in the presidential campaign of 1992, a greater proportion than it was in any previous election.

(a) a greater proportion than it was
(b) a greater proportion than
(c) a greater proportion than they have been
(d) which is greater than was so
(e) which is greater than it has been

OA's later...

I would go with Option A for both the questions( i.e. the original contruction ) ...
OA for my previous Q is B
Increasingly, American businesses requiring customer service phone lines have been utilizing overseas companies that can provide these services at extremely reduced rates. Toll-free calls are routed to countries like India, where low-paid workers have been trained to deal with most of the typical problems consumers have with their credit cards, online services, and computer equipment. Since the companies using these overseas call centers are saving so much money, they will undoubtedly show higher profits than companies that do not.
Which of the following, if true, most seriously weakens the argument?
(A) There is strong competition among overseas call centers to provide the most comprehensive services at the lowest rates.
(B) Consumers opposed to exporting American jobs are willing to pay more for goods and services from companies that dont engage in this practice.
(C) Certain banking services cannot be outsourced, since this would require the release of customer financial data.
(D) Because offshore telephone customer service companies provide only these services, they can train their employees more thoroughly than American companies could.
(E) Some American companies send their own employees overseas to train the call center personnel in their particular business.

Should be option B.
Another question:

31. A star will compress itself into a white dwarf, a neutron star, or a black hole after it passes through a red giant stage, depending on mass.

(A) A star will compress itself into a white dwarf, a neutron star, or a black hole after it passes through a red giant stage, depending on mass.
(B) After passing through a red giant stage, depending on its mass, a star will compress itself into a white dwarf, a neutron star, or a black hole.
(C) After passing through a red giant stage, a stars mass will determine if it compresses itself into a white dwarf, a neutron star, or a black hole.
(D) Mass determines whether a star, after passing through the red giant stage, will compress itself into a white dwarf, a neutron star, or a black hole.
(E) The mass of a star, after passing through the red giant stage, will determine whether it compresses itself into a white dwarf, a neutron star, or a black hole.

i guess it shoud be C.
Hi,
Recently i came across a Q where data word was classified as plural

"either you transfer the data which WERE demanded or (do xyx)"
shouldn't it be data which WAS demanded?

dictionary definition appears to be a little ambiguous

Data is actually a plural form of datum.
But it can be used both as a plural noun and a singular noun.
Choose the word that creates parallel construction :

The mainland was visited by explorers much later than (the outlying islands, were the outlying island).

Which option would be better?

The first option...
The mainland was visited by explorers much later than the outlying islands.
We dont need a "were" here just as we dont need a "was in the below sentence:
Telephone was invented by man much later than the Wheel.
