Hi

Congratulations.
Ur debrief was very inspiring. 780 is too good. I am also a mother of 1 year old and working. One month left for GMAT. Nice to know that you could manage so much. Studies become tough after you have a family. Lots of diversions, distractions and RESPONSIBILITIES. I cant make it out where time goes. And seriousness keeps fluctuating.

All the best for ur furture. You have set an example for me. I hope I am able to follow.

Neanderthals had a vocal tract that resembled those of the apes and so were probably without language, a
shortcoming that may explain why they were supplanted by our own species.
(A) Neanderthals had a vocal tract that resembled those of the apes
(B) Neanderthals had a vocal tract resembling an ape's
(C) The vocal tracts of Neanderthals resembled an ape's
(D) The Neanderthal's vocal tracts resembled the apes
(E) The vocal tracts of the Neanderthals resembled those of the apes

I feel the answer is B.

A Those cannot refer to singular vocal tract
C Subject is Neanderthals not the vocal tract. As later in the sentence it is Neanderthals who were probably without the language not the vocal tract
D Again they refers to Neanderthals and not to Nenanderthal's vocal tracts
E Subject should be Neanderthals and not the vocal tracts

Hi

Congratulations. Great score.

I have taken the GMAT date on 26th Sep.

Before starting the preparation I had taken PP1 and scored 640. I have been preparing since past 2 months.
But my verbal has not improved much. My speed is less. I had taken Kaplan CD test and was not able to finish the test(both the sections). Got a very low score of 530.

In my PP test speed was not a problem infact I had finished earlier.

Also with low speed the accuracy is not very high either. I am taking almost 15 mins for each RC (8-9 Q) . I am not getting what to do in next 1.5 months to improve verbal.

My SC and CR ase also not very great.

I have finished OG11, Kaplan Review and Kaplan 800. I am currently doing socretop material - 1000SC, 1000RC, 1000CR

Please comment.

Hey Ruchira,
As you said, its been just 16 days since you been doing SC. You dont need to panic. The key to any section is practice. Now you have mentioned all that you have finished in the past 16 days. And its quite a bit. Infact it seems too much. Practice doesnt mean only the number of questions that you attempt but the number of questions that you solve and understand. You need to give time to understand not only why a certain option is incorrect, but also in case of correct answer, you should analyse if your understanding is correct.
Also, in GMAT, you have about 1.75 mins per question. Are you utilizing that much time? Normally, we are used to solve a question as quickly as possible. But here we have as much as 100 seconds per question. Utilize the entire time. Then are a few basic rules:

1. Do not decide on an answer before reading all options.
2. Once you have selected an answer, read it with the complete sentence.
3. Try to eliminate all obvious errors first.
4. All basic SC rules that you find in any book should be applied to the option you are selecting.

Thats it for now. Will post again later if I have anything more to add.

Thanks,
Abhishek.

Thanks a lot. I was trying to solve problems in less time just to be on a safer side to finish on time. I had read it somewhere that we should try to solve in less than actual time. But I guess I will have to slow down a bit.
Sid4CAT Says
Is no one interested in RC?

Ya even I am getting the same feeling. No one seems to be interested. Or to put in better
words I guess people feel that RC cannot be improved by discussion.

But I still feel that discussion always helps.

Hi All

I need some advice.

I have been preparing SC since past 16 days, still my accuarcy is between 85 to 88 percent. In the beginning, my accuracy was increasing but now it is stuck in this range. Also I find that during all these days while preparing SC the theory part has increased. Such that each day I find something new and that adds more to the concepts. But now my major time goes in reading the theory itself. As a result I am getting less time for solving problems.

I am not able to figure out where am I going wrong. What should I do to increase my accuracy. I have completed the SC section of Kaplan 2007 Edition, Kaplan Verbal workout, Kaplan 800 and OG11.

Please suggest.

Ingrid
