Hi, Could you please evaluate my profile? 10th - 75.6% 12th - 71.1% B.E. (IT) - 72.34% GMAT - 640 10+ years experience in an IT organization, including 7+ years of international experience (US). Could you please suggest if my profile stands any chance for ISB? Thanks in advance.

Gaurav @gs18

Well campus job options will be limited for your profile so yes you will struggle on that front. for ISB higher GMAT is a must 690+ will give u some chance. With current GMAT i would say chances will be very very low.

@kunalpandya almost every year there are a 3-4 people that match your profile that make it to ISB. Atleast this is true for the past 3 years. However if ISB is where you want to be then firstly you will need a higher GMAT and secondly you will have to compromise big time on your post MBA job options. So if education is what you seek and can take care of your own job placement rewrite the GMAT and take a stab at ISB. Best Alum Co2013

this essay#1 is proving to be a tough nut to crack... I wonder how others are doing???
gs18
Gaurav @gs18

Well i would suggest just look at your strengths thats what makes you different from others and site an instance where you used one of your strengths to do things differently or maybe better than other were doing. Done complicate it in your mind, in essence the essay is just asking about your strength and an example to support it. Good Luck, alum 2013

Is it true that Students from the current batch read the Essays? I mean how fair is that... I do not even think some of them would be good enough to judge.

Gaurav @gs18

I have ready many application essays during my time at ISB and believe me there is a stark difference between application essays that get selected against those which get sidelined. In case you make it to ISB and come across someone with say a below average GMAT have a look at their essays they r miles apart from the ones you all think will make an impact. The essays dont have to be written well( yes a well written essay makes an impact) but the message they deliver is far more important...so again stop worrying about who reads the essays and get cracking on writing an essay that anyone and everyone will appreciate.... also, only 10% of the batch will dazzle you with their achievements, the majority will be everyday ppl you would have worked with who just happen to have more clarity about where they stand and where they want to go and thats what all essays r about knowing where you are today and having clarity in where you want to be. The delta is what the MBA will offer , what ISB will offer a simple mantra follow it and you will have an essay to get a shortlist.  And believe me working in IT in a domain and believing that an MBA will make you a domain expert and get you a job in that domain never makes a great story and will never dazzle the adcom

@decodeSMITA all schools have current students reviewing admission essays,  additionally as i wrote above all essays are read by adcom in addition to students. Plus i am not sure whats your argument here... are you saying that you will loose out a chance to get interviewed because your essays will be compared to other applicant's??? if your essays are good and supported by good GMAT score and other credentials then you will be called for an interview, there is no limit on the interview shortlists. So please spend time on getting ur essays right and if you believe the system is not fair you have every right to question the adcom or maybe give ISB a skip if you think you will be applying to a school whose admission system you just referred as 'Disgusting'

@nspreddy01 dude 710 is fine just above average ISB score and that makes it less of a thing to be worried about. In other words you dont have to take it again even if its bad luck and you dont make it GMAT still wont be a reason behind it. You have a decent enough score now get cracking on the essays thats all. I am not sure what else were you expecting if i am still missing the point feel free to PM me, happy to answer.
