Hey Guys!

Congrats to all who made it.

I can assure each of you that two years at GIM will be an experience you will cherish for life. There will be good days, bad days and really bad days! but when u add it all up it will be worth the effort. Trust me.

I know must of you are anxious and have a zillion doubts cluttering your head. My batchmates Mayur, shreye and several others have been doing an amazing job answering queries with unfailing regularity - I will try and contribute more often. Do feel free to ask anything thats on your mind. The placement report is yet to be published so wont be able to answer those queries. For all others, go ahead and shoot!

Warm regards,

Hi Puys,

If you have studied all through in Mumbai, been born in Mumbai (birth certificate states this) and lived all through in Mumbai - do you still need to submit a domicile certificate to the MH- CET authorities?

If yes, please state the easiest way of applying for this and how long does it take?

If no, what documentation would suffice? My brother just wrote the CET and is enrolled in the MCom course at Mumbai university.

I apologise if this has been asked before.

Thanks much!

Hey Ironwindow! As far as I recollect there is no SOP to be filled out. However, the panel will definitely assess your focus and reasons for pursuing an MBA in the interview. All the best! Charles Carvalho PGP1 Goa Institute of Management

Hi Gurleen!

Should you include your workex on the form - You definitely should! I will add the caveat that at the time of the interview you will be questioned about this workex - what you learnt - what you hoped you would, but didn't!

All applicants - please remember that having workexperience is a double edged sword - it certainly adds a new dimension to your profile, but with this positive comes the onus of demonstrating that the time you spent was well used and you have a better understanding of the 'real world' and the challenges of managing under constraints.

All the best for the exam season

Hey Guys,

My first post on this thread.

Its interesting how people try to guess the impact of events like the RBI policy, budget etc on the markets. While im in no way suggesting that these events do not impact the markets, they certainly do, but history shows (as suggested by legends like Graham and buffet) that in the long run what really counts is the underlying business and a fair margin of safety.

Graham gave the analogy of Mr. Market to explain the futility of predicting market movements.

The analysts that gave sell recos when the sensex was at 8k are giving buy recos at 17k!! Everyone seems to have a magic wand to predict where the markets will be at a given point of time. There seems to be a total lack of accountablity in these research reports that seem to be made to increase brokerage earned rather than maximise investor returns.

Hope to carry on this discussion.

Best regards,

Hi GIMites and Puys!

I am Charles Carvalho, a PGP1 student at the Goa Institute of Management.

Its really amazing to see my friends from GIM keeping up this tradition of helping aspirants with their queries. I will try and do my bit to answer questions raised.

I'll start by requesting all serious b-school applicants to devote an hour each week reading the economist online at www.economist.com
The site succinctly captures the events that impact the global economy and how these affect all stakeholders- businesses, employees, governments etc.

All the best.

Ola Amigos!

Feels great to be back at GIM after a refreshing and certainly well deserved break. I am a family person; and while it was hard to say goodbye to everyone at home I am eager to spend an enjoyable and fruitful second term with my extended family at GIM.

Marketing is easily the most interesting subject I have encountered. Everything is so real world and so practical. No thought seems irrelevant; if it works for your customer, its worth exploring. Period. Professor Parulekar is an amazing marketing faculty. Its encouraging to find someone with such vast experience and proven credentials yet so receptive to new ideas and a willingness to go beyond mere 'KOTLERisms' . Challenging status quo is a part of life @ GIM and its a privilege to be part of an institution that lets me explore new ideas and embrace change.

Up next is the basanti cup (our intra college cricket tournament). Hope to bowl a few yorkers and bounce a couple of my batchmates.
With Akhtar out Carvalho can move to fast bowling!!!

The weather in Goa is simply surreal. Its raining 24X7 and the effect the picturesque mandovi has on my spirits cannot be described in words
The maddening heat of Mumbai is a distant memory.

Thats all for now.

The walk for India was an event to remember. "Stop child abuse- save the future" was this year's theme. It not only made all of us aware of the harsh realities in our world but made us end our cynicism and raise our voices. It was a refreshing change for me- from being a mute spectator to being an active participant. I will remember this Independence day as the day I became the change i wanted the world to see.
