Hi sadz,

The sc1000 is an unofficial version, with most of the questions from scoretop. And it does not have detailed explanations. I had a copy of it when I was preparing, but did not like it as a book without explanations is not so useful. I would recommend against it for 2 reasons - it is not legal questions and it has no explanations and many debatable OAs. If you still need it, you can google for it and find it somewhere in rapidshare etc.

Thanks,
Arun

Shoppers in sporting goods stores, unlike in department stores, do very little impulse shopping, not buying a pair of skis and a boomerang when they come in for a basketball, but they leave with a basketball only.

A. in department stores, do very little impulse shopping, not buying a pair of skis and a boomerang when they come in for a basketball, but they leave with a basketball only

B. in department stores, shop impulsively very little; someone who comes in for a basketball will leave with a basketball only and not also buy a pair of skis and a boomerang as well

C. those in department stores, do very little impulse shopping, do not buy a pair of skis and a boomerang when they come in for a basketball, but leave with only a basketball

D. those in department stores, do very little impulse shopping; someone who comes in for a basketball will leave with a basketball only and not buy a pair of skis and a boomerang as well

E. department stores, shop impulsively very little; someone will not buy a pair of skis and a boomerang when they come in for a basketball but will leave with only a basketball

Well, definitely A, B, E are out. I picked C and then changed to D.

In metalwork one advantage of adhesive-bonding over spot-welding is that the contact, and hence the bonding, is effected continuously over a broad surface instead of a series of regularly spaced points with no bonding in between.
(A) instead of
(B) as opposed to
(C) in contrast with
(D) rather than at
(E) as against being at

I would go with Choice D.
This is my analysis:
1. The contact is effected over a broad surface instead of a series - doesn't sound good obviously. Pronoun "at" is missing - this is another issue.
2. The contact is effected over a broad surface as opposed to a series - you can not "oppose a bonding to a series", while you can "oppose against".
3. The contact is effected over a broad surface in contrast with a series - nope, "contrast with a series"?. This creates a modifier issue.
4. The contact is effected over a broad surface rather than at a series - correct, as the contact is somewhere, rather than at somewhere else.
5. The contact is effected over a broad surface as against being at a series- "being" is the issue. This creates a tense problem.

Am I right?

Cheers - Arun
