A few "words of wisdom:wow: " from my side :-
In the classical Management Guru style -
"4 Time-tested Recipes to make it to IIMB":wow:
1. Important, very important, mosttttth important -
- Get your answers to "personal" questions in place-
Why MBA? Why IIMB? Why Software Engineering? Why Engineering?
Why MBA after 2 yrs work ex? Why 'this's and why not 'that's
You gotta first convince yourself before you can convince the panel.
2. Prepare a Resume-
- and prepare every point in this resume thoroughly-
questions like "Have you heard of Cicero" were thrown at me because Public Speaking happenned to be one of my hobbies-
I am sure you get the hang of it?:satisfie:
Btw, Cicero was a great Roman OratorCicero - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
3. You dont have to answer all questions that were thrown at you.
You dont have to know all answers to all questions.
The ability to think on your feet helps.
Q- "What festivals are celebrated in Bangalore"
A- "Sir, Bangalore is a very cosmopolitan city. We celebrate all festivals - for example Diwali"
Correct Answer - "Sankranti" etc
Q - "What is Mount Abu famous for?"
A - "Sir, it is a honeymoon spot"
Correct Answer - "Dilwawah Temples"
Well, I have posted these here, because everytime I think about those few days, I can help but smile.
4. So, dont take yourself too seriously.
The next one month will teach you a lot - transform you to an extent - and during your interviews all of you will face situations which will make you look back and want to start laughing out loud - some will make you cry too.
You will meet a lot of people. You will make a lot of friends.
So, go ahead and enjoy this roller coaster ride.
Great. Here I was thinking "Are we going to have a SPLASH IIMB QUERIES FOR SENIORS TO ANSWER" thread, and Anupam does the needful!" :)
Heya Sanchayan and Behera too :)
I'll ask the other IIMB fellas to post.. (some bright lights are there in my section notably Naresh Reddy, MohitKumar17, abby1984 and gpriyanshu).
What else? Hmm....
1) Got good percentile? (99.9+ types) GOOD Show!
2) Got Great Acads and sub 99 percentile? GOOD Show!
3) Gone to the moon? GREAT.
4) Won the Oscar? Hmm... try getting the Lifetime Achievement Award....
Okay. Just kidding.
My first advice: Talk to as many seniors/coaching centre heads as you can. Lord knows the amount of talking I did in GD preps. Used to do mock GDs and PIs.. yes. But also, talked to IIM A B C seniors. They would be your first mentors!
The TIME head at my city did me a lot of good. For eg, he warned me "You would have a stress interview at least once because they'd want to break that over-exuberance you have." At that time I was very very annoyed (to say the least), but I then figured out a bit of preps never hurt, and lo and behold, he was right.
Second piece of advice: I don't care what anyone says, you really cannot prepare. I mean, unless you have been reading since you were 10 years old, brushing up on GK right now does not matter. Unless you can goof your way through. And that is really not possible, actually.
Third bit of advice: It really does NOT matter what you do NOT know. What matters is you know what you say you know, and carry it off convincingly. I mean, if you say you are involved in your Shakespeare Club and didn't know Bottom from Hamlet (hehe. bad joke), you are in trouble. So, be honest.
Fourth bit of advice: I know it's very tempting to say "My only weakness is that I am a perfectionist" but if by one glance at your form I see around 10 strike offs, I will not believe it. Again, be honest... to a degree. A weakness like "homicidal mania" might not be tolerated
Fifth bit of unsolicited advice: Please please seem interested in the insti, and do read up the websites and the story behind each. I was asked in both L and I to talk about their institute. Crazy, I know, but it might be the difference between an outright reject and a "let's talk more."
Sixthly, during GDs, please try and make sense. It might sound preposterous, but airtime does not matter. In the I and C GDs, I talked for around 1 minute out of 15, and that too because the guys felt obligated to let the sole girl speak and the guys who hogged it all did NOT get the only calls Sense will be appreciated both by the interviewers and the other candidates.
Finally, a smile wouldn't hurt ;)
All the best!
