IFMR Chennai: a B-school with tradition

IFMR was established in 1970, as a non-profit organization by ICICI, the house of Kotharis and other industrial groups. It is today an institute of national stature.

  • Placement: 100 percent placement in organisations of repute and quality summer placements are noteworthy features of IFMR.
  • Library: H.T Parekh Library has been recognized as a Depository Library for World Bank, WTO Secretariat, etc. The library is also a recommended reference library for many B-Schools and other colleges. Corporates and academics are also enrolled as members of the library.
  • Infrastructure: IFMR is well equipped with state of the art IT laboratories, all networked supported by databases, software packages and other applications. These include Bloomberg Professional, Financial Trading System (FTS), Barra on Campus (containing Aegis and Cosmos), Prowess, Capital Line, eViews, Statistica, Gauss Optimization Software and Project Management Software.

    IFMR in association with NCDEX has set up a Trading Floor dedicated for training, research, knowledge management, consultancy services, and creating awareness in the domain of commodity markets and derivatives.

  • Knowledge Repository: Ongoing dissemination and sharing of knowledge is well done at IFMR through its knowledge management portal containing daily news, articles, presentations, faculty speak, snippets etc.,
  • Students: IFMR attracts students from across India with a high score in CAT/XAT/GMAT and a strong academic background from the high school level. A good proportion of the students come with a work experience of 24 months.

    Each student at IFMR is assigned a faculty member who acts as his/her mentor.

Two-Year Fulltime Programs offered by IFMR:

  1. Postgraduate Diploma in Management: This program offers specializations in Finance, Marketing, HR, IT & Operations and prepares the students for a managerial career in various industries.
  2. Postgraduate Diploma in Management – Financial Engineering: The Financial Engineering program prepares students for a career in investment banking, securities trading, quantitative modelling, risk management, financial consulting and applied research. The uniquely designed curriculum lays emphasis on application of quantitative techniques to problems in finance.
  3. Postgraduate Diploma in Management – Development & Sustainable Finance: This program focuses on special problems of managing access to finance in emerging market economies and inclusive growth.     IFMR’s 3-year part-time PGDM program is a boon to the working executives in and around Chennai.

Yes.. ifmr accepts freshers.. it accepts CAT, XAT, GMAT scores.

The fee was 6.1 L for 2009-11 batch for the PGDM regular and FE programs and 4.6 L for the DSF program.

IFMR has been proud of 100% placements since its inception. Due to economic slow down, average salary last year hit a low of around 5.2 lpa. The average package in 2008 was 6.8 lpa.

The Profiles offered last year were mostly Credit Analyst, Equity Research, Corporate Banking, Retail Banking, Finance consultancy & Research, Business Analyst, Business Development and others. Hope this helps. :)

Last year, the cutoff was 87.5 thru XAT and CAT. There was no sectional cutoff.

The highest salary last year was around 9 lac pa. The average salaries are mentioned a few comments above. Request you to please verify this information with the college authorities and clarify your doubts.

@gaurav.dvd – The criteria as you mentioned is 60% throughout. It wouldn’t have been the criteria if it could be relaxed.

@ ram – 50% students of the current batch are freshers. So is no reason why you should not be able to convert a call. We do not have stream-wise placement data. Please contact the admissions office at IFMR for more information.

@aneesh .L – Last years cut-off was 87.5 percentile in CAT and XAT… We wont be able to predict the cut-off’s this year. So keep your fingers crossed! All the best!

I am Balaji from Chennai. I have 72.5 Percentile in XAT 2010 and have 4.5 years of work exp in Cognizant technology solutions. Will I be eligible to apply for the PGDM program in IFMR?
