Faced problems at your CAT 2009 center? Help us take your problems to authorities

At 6 pm today (November 30, 2009), representatives from the Indian Institute of Management, Prometric and NIIT shall hold a press conference to address questions about snags at CAT centers throughout the nation. This is the perfect platform to let the IIMs know about cases where you feel the CAT was administered in a faulty manner and was yet not cancelled. Please fill out this form (ASAP!) to let us know about the problems and we shall try to get them addressed by the panel.

Your personal information and data will be kept private, so do not worry.

Im gonna write da exam this fri…..Its not the tension of qns dat worry me…but all those news is troubling me more.How can such a prestigious exam be ruined like this??We have to protest against this.If possible go to court.IIMs hav to correct their mistake.Its better to be late than never.

I gave my cat yesterday(29th) in the afternoon slot. There were definitely many problems with the server as well as some of the systems. I had to change 2 computers to finally get at least a decently working one. After that also my system was not showing the time left and none of my questions were numbered. I felt it was really unfair and it restricted me to give my best as i neither knew the exact time nor the number of questions i was left with.

@coolcaeser …. i don’t think there’s any problem at noida centre (but always expect the unexpected in life )… staff is quite helpful… no delays… exam actually started 5 min before.. so u cn see they r quite good!! best of luck!!

this is the first time when cat take online. so, it is organization’s responsibility to take care of the system and the softwares. my slot is 5 th december and most of my freinds complain that they had suffer from system hanging and power cut.

prometric has come out with its own link now…
i wonder if my or any1′z problem/disgust can be sorted out…when u know there’s a lot of money involved in the cbt test n prometric wun’t want to suffer losses…n yes as mr. barua puts it “Do we recognize and empathize with student? Yes we do. But the inconvenience is a fact of life and we cannot do anything at this stage”

with such a questionable test n such an unjust way of conducting it….i dunno if i shud go ahead fillin’ any more forms of b-schools accepting cat scores…the ones that iv filled in b4 seem to go to no-man’s land…especially wen i hav no idea of the marking scheme…n wen iv given my exam in such circumstances where u need ear plugs not video cameras…..

hi all, i had my CAT yesterday..was really happy with it..but now after hearing all these rumours i really feel cheated…i believe they should cancel the exam..which is highly unlikely considering the egos of IIMs

LOL! This is the state of affairs of the premier IIMs.
And THEY CLAIM TO TEACH MANAGEMENT!
Don’t be surprised if tomorrow Lalu’s son makes it to IIM-A.

Prometric should be sued. Heads should roll. The decision making people from IIM should resign. WAY TO GO, IIMs! You’ve shown us HOW GOOD YOU ARE AT MANAGEMENT. WOW! And to think of the torture you put us through at the GD-PIs!! BRAVO! :(

My name is sushil lakra, i gave my CAT on 28 Nov, was all set to bell the CAT, started my day with energy even though haven’d had a sleep last day, hoping that will be the day to make a significant change my life, and it turned out to be the worst day of my entire life, i sat to take the test, took the sample test, but who will have anything to review over there, in 10 question, which are not even gonna be evaluated, i clicked start test button on the screen, first question i see there is for ENGLISH competency, i had planned my CAT, was gonna do DI section first, searched entire screen for the sections, didnt find any (What the hell, is everyone gonna brows through all the problems just to reach the area of his choice :( ). I see a submit test (which suggests me that this would clearly end my test) and a review button, thinking i would see section demarcation there i clicked it, now also i dont see any Sectional demarcation, now i see two buttons Incomplete review(what the hell does this mean, incomplete review who the hell has chosen this name for the button, And how IIM people who test English so thoroughly allowed these people to have a name like that for button) and END(which suggests as if you want to end this page and want to go back to your questions.) i hit it :( . and next moment i see is all invigilators are panicking, didnt even realized that i have made such a huge mistake, i have finished my CAT (for which i had been preparing for entire year and was so well prepared) has ended in 5 minutes. And add to this, no one told me that dont hit the END button on the review page, and from the next day onwards everyone was warned about this. This is the what you get in return for your courage.

I was still hopeful that i might get a chance, because i thought that how ENDING REVIEW can end the TEST, but rechecked they have mentioned this in the instruction :( . But aren’t the invigilators are supposed to warn aspirants even if they have mentioned it in the SAMPLE test, this is first online test for GODS sake and how can every body read the entire SAMPLE so carefully.

Please do something about this cause, i dont want to waste another year preparing when i know i can do it this time. and why should i be punished for one year for such a silly mistake.

I took my CAT on sunday.It was a buggy software and definitely the worst for an exam of CAT standards.When i had finished my exam ,the option for starting the exam again came and it went into the test.Even the server does not recognise that u r writing for the second time.

We are collating all the responses from across the country and we need more. Please ask anyone whom you know has faced problems regarding conduct of CAT besides rescheduling ( because Prometric has said they will take action regarding that and everyone whose test has been rescheduled will definitely get a chance again ).

We now have a very good case where we can approach authorities and give them concrete details of what has happened. We assure you that we will do our best in sharing the grievances with the authorities and the world out there.

I donno wat to say…thr r many kinds of glitches….
-some ppl not able to take exam
-ending up their exam as well their dream for just one click on quit test accidentally(hv seen a guy in our center crying in the hall for pressing the button accidentally…..)
-for some qsns were illegible…figures are not seen properly
-many reported tht there are errors in the exam in some qsns
and the worst part abt it is we cant discuss any thing out
(I have got some qsns which i am sure tht there is no answer in the option n wasted some time recheckin my calculations)
-some of them gettig qsns ticked earlier, so for them no need to write any exam they can just relax and check the answers…
-power cuts in between is boon for some n bane for some
as some geeting fresh timer after powercuts…
-timer is freezing for some (how fortunate!!!!for many ,system is hanging but timer is still running)
-some minor things lyk mouse problems, no sufficient space to keep scratch paper calculations
(@himadrisdeb true yaar am seated near the door and its a meeting place for proctors…as testtakers will be getting probs in between they ll call proctors and they are discussing loudly with eachother wat to do…)

(donno how many other problems are being faced?…KISKO PATA KI HAMARA ANSWERS KAISE LOAD HO RAHA HAIN…EVEN IF THR IS ANY PROB IN LOADING OF OUR RESPONSES THEY LL NOT DISCLOSE ANYTHING TO US)
I DONT HAVE ANY HOPE THT THE RESULTS WILL BE FAIR…BEING FAIR THO DOOOR KI BAAT HAIN…
with all this there is no fairness in the exam and same ll be reflected in selection process…
I have known ppl who gave up their jobs,sacrificed their joys,staying away frm their families for coaching…wat is IIMs’ answer for them?

paper format was really good and exam hall atmosphere was far better…
there was seriousness in the hall along with pindrop silence…
(This test made me to feel lyk am stitting in my enginnering LAB seessions)

Gosh u guys talk about delays of 2 or 3 hrs …. I too gave the test on 1st day 1st slot …. mine was scheduled at 10 a.m. in a Center in Mumbai and I actually appeared at 6.p.m. in the evening.

My centre was at the Bangalore. The biometrics, the arrangements, everything was well organised. The exams started at the exact time. Started solving the paper. After solving it once, i was going through the ‘marked’ questions and the time was out. There was a window indicating “Your are out of time” with a “OK” option. I clicked on it.
Here is where all the problem started…
The screen blinked twice & an window opened with one of the option saying “Add extra-time” I was amused at this n asked the supervisor whether I could use the option. He was shocked n he called the head n asked me not to do anything on the comp. The head made me wait until everybody finishes n he checked wid the server n he told me ” You have logged off incorrectl”.
He himself checked the comp & couldn’t do anything. He restarted the comp n
entered the username n the password. I was shocked to see the “START THE TEST” option. The same 1 I had seen while starting the test. I asked him as to what was wrong n whether I could re-attend the test. He took his assistant in & came to me n told not to worry & that I’ve done the correct procedure n I’ll get my result. What do I do if don’t get it?

HI! everybody
I appeared for CAT exams today on 1st December. It was nightmarish experience. Firstly my test was delayed by more than 30 minutes because of system problems. Invigilators kept on restarting my system again and again for more than ten times. Same problem was faced by many candidates in my examination room. To the top of it the virus threat message popped up every few minutes. Clearly breaking concentration. Also there was a lot of disturbance in the room especially in the last half hour as invigilators started calling candidates names causing loss of time and concentration.
Atleast Prometric and NIIT invigilation team should have been trained properly. They seem to be totally ignorant of solving the system glitches.
Decision for holding CAT online is easy but holding it in actual practice is difficult. Specially when there is such a poor infrastructure. Selection of test centers is also not proper(Lucknow). There are many colleges with much better infrastructure.
Any way it’s loss for individual candidate who is facing problem. Are IIM, PROMETRIC authorities listening…………….

The most shocking news that i have got yet is that the coaching centers have been preparing questions from students that have given CAT. This is totally unfair since the students who give paper last shall have a whole question bank

Majority of the people complaining are those whose cat exam did not go well so they want a second short at it .

Cat gave candidate to choose the date and time he likes no body said u go for the first day first show ……shock

if in review questions a person clicks on end or quit test then its his mistake not some one else .

the simple point people donot like to change and cannot accept change

the cbt is far better and on international lines like other exams .

Media just needs an issue to get the Trps . I had my Exam on tuesday and intially my exam also did not start for 15 min but once it started everything went smoothly

Best of Luck to all . Concentrate on the exam and not the media hype if something bad has to happen it shall happen .

The biggest HIT……….

My exam is scheduled at 1 dec
morning batch at priyadarshini college Nagpur….

My whole slop is rescheduled(200 students) and we got a mail that

Dear Candidate,

Thank you for scheduling for CAT 2009.

Due to technical related issues, the seat you were scheduled for is closed. We regrettably have rescheduled your CAT 2009 test.”The CAT Registration number and confirmation number has changed.”

It is not necessary to bring an updated admit card, you can take your old admit card with you to the testing center. Seats are currently very limited and may not be available in the city you wish to test, however, if the rescheduled date/time is not suitable to you, please contact our CAT Candidate Service helpline at 1-800-103-9293. Please do not send an email through the webform. You must speak to a CAT Candidate Service Representative.

My point is that CAT registration number is changed and i submitted many form of different B school(like IMT,UBS,…) with this Registration number…..

What will be i m going to do i don’t able to under stand….

I took my test on 29th. The exam went without any technical glitches. But really was disappointed to hear mobile phone rings and other disturbances. How can the invigilators of this premier exam behave so irresponsibly? Also I read rumours of questions leaking out in todays newspaper. In some centres, the invigilation is poor and since the seats are allotted dynamically if the invigilation is not proper, the chances of cheating are much more. I dont think the cameras are working in some of the centres also. Again these are just rumours, mite be wrong as well. But personally i would have preferred a paper pencil test and i’m disappointed

wat you said is totally wrng that we are going alongwith the media hype….my exam was on dec 1st. at nagpur (mrng batch)….i reached half an hour b4 the reporting time and had to wait till 2:15 pm to start the test…till 1:30 we had no idea whether we would be able to take test or not..we waited and waited, obviously empty stomach…then finally at 1:15 we were let in and for next 3-4 hrs we were not allowed to leave the hall for water or toilet wat soever..
my exam was good but i would like to mention the fact that my system hanged and the time was running…there was a certain loss of atleast 3-4 mins bcoz the invigilator had no idea about the system hanging prob…so system hanging once + 2 times power failure + 5 hrs wait + empty stomach..i think this probs are more than enough to screw CAT for a well prepared candidate…i am saying that my test was good..but actually in comparison with my fellow test takers i felt that it was good..but wat about the other centre where it was held without any disruption and all…?

my exam has been canceled. it was on 30th nov, 3.30 pm at SRM university in Chennai.

PGI Chandigadh is one of the most reputed college in medical branch.Approx. 50 thousand students give entrance every year and college displays the result next day and day after that GDPI process starts.I will like to tell that,dose iims is having such a great problem in assessing 3 lacks student paper and the enterance fee is also not so much less that they cant continue the same format.

Hi,

I took my cat today.Indeed i feel really sorry for those people who really worked for a whole year and end of the day they are screwed up for some technical reasons.I took the exam in chennai.Thank god i did not face any technical problems.I attempted 57 questions 20va,20 di,17 quan.For the remaining three questions i was not able to see the table,figure provided in the question.It was showing me as “image cannot be displayed”.Of course,this is not a serious problem when compared to other problems discussed in this blog.But i wrote the paper for 57 questions.I think so this makes a lot of difference in cat.Whom should i tell my dissatisfaction?The exam itself is not fair,this exam would definitely have screwed students lives.

This is shit..
I understand that probably full time was given to me, but since no other source to know the time, i think i can call it deceiving the students deliberately…

@abhishek and similar folks. I had my schedule on 28 10 am at Ghaziabad. I reached on time 8 am waited till 1:00 pm for system to start, but eventually had to return back without any test!
Now, I still have not recd any commn from prometric, their help line nu 1800 is always engaged (from 8 am to 8 pm). Patience is running out. Any solution. I can be reached at sgupta12@nda.vsnl.net.in. thnks

Donno if its the right place to ask this, but is there anyone who’s first slot was canceled by Prometric and they did not contact you in 48 hours. i had scheduled test on 30th Nov, at Sabo Sikdhki Collg, Mumbai, – Slot 2 , But till now Prometric guys have not contacted me, i am really tensed as its already been 3 days and the customer care is alwas busy, i tried calling them like zillion time, please suggest if some1 is having the same problem???????

dude i gave my exam today at the noida center, and it went off well, and only my system was not working for the first 50 mins(yes i reached thr 2 hrs before and all that jazz) but after that it went off well, and all the other students were not allowed to leave cuz my computer was not working for the first 50 mins. I dont know what and why has cat done this but certainly this is not upto the mark for sure and to everyone whose are facing problems i can just say it sucks but we need to keep cool. cheers and best of luck.

All the students who are giving the CAT on the last three days r getting a readymade stuff,because questions are getting repeated at an alarming rate.Wat these candidates have to do is to jus mug the answers and click it.WOW wat a CAT !!! I think XAT has bcm most prestigious xam followed by FMS n IIFT. never thought this dumbness wud occur ever.

Even the coaching institutes have started to circulate the CAT 2009 QUESTIONS in the form of BOOKLETS [ jus lik one-week series for BA etc. mug up n pass ] to the appearing candidiates. I suggest prestigious CAT-ALLIED institutes like MDI SP JAIN NITIE shud now be allied with XAT also if they really want the quality in the students.

i feel the major issue is testing environment and level playing ground.why dont mr director understand that this is an exam of relative performance.it not merely about just appearing in the exam ,here if somebody gets advantage during test it may effect my result .the problem is that result wont reflect actual picture of our relative preparation.one of the people who was not even sure of getting a 80 per , is now expecting 95 per n is very happy(n he is not in favor of cat being canceled) just because he was able to cheat n share some answer during test. i dont know whether he will get it , ho sakta kuch uske bhi baap ho nakal mei.i am not against CBT , but the manner in which they are conducting it ONLY GOD CAN SAVE US.n friend what is the guarantee that all our answer would be saved ,it happened with me in mocks during hangups, n here it is hangups + VIRUS
MY TEST IS ON 5TH BUT ,THE DAMAGE IS ALREADY DONE , N IT SHOULD BE CANCELLED IMMEDIATELY.N A RETEST SHOULD BE HELD DOESN’T MATTER IF IT IS CBT BUT IT SHOULD BE IN A FAIR MANNER.

i had registered for the test in august with fortune delhi(29th) as the center . in october i recieved a mail that my test center has been changed to asia pacific mgmt institue jasola delhi(29th) but later as we know my test site was cancled and i recieved a mail that i will be contacted in 48 hrs . it has been 4 days since and i stil havent recieved a mail /sms/call ,moreover i have tried calling their help line more than 40 times each day but it seems it remains busy the whole day. i have sent them a mail about this but still havent recieved a answer . i have no clue about my test date center or what i should do and the latest FAqs just tell us to caal the canidate care

“THE CAT’S MEEAOO TURNED A RAT’S SQUEEK”

Hey Guys Here’s how my CAT went…

I and My friend Praveen registered for CAT and were asked to select the day and date of the Examination. So I said “Wao… Thats CAT.”. We got a conformation and were asked to bring all the docs and ADMIT CARD to the Exam Center. We selected a college which was nearer to the HYD city coz we are from Vizag and not quite familiar with HYD.

Everything went smooth untill we recieved a mail stating a very BIG APPOLOGY that our centre has been changed. Well.. We boarded the train.. reached SEC station and took our friends bike…. what do we find out.. Yeppieee!!! Its “HYDERABAD BAND”. We got no stores open.. not even the Petrol bunks. We were a lill perked but still managed to fined our way through it and travelled 70KM outside HYD. I mean C’MON man… Are these guys trying to kill us?? or re they expecting us to be a bunch of Roddies?? Huh.. anyways.. we rode our way with a bagpack and a trolly luggage bag with two of us on the bike… searching our way… and u knw wat it dosent end there.. We go there and find out tht that place is a stinkin village with not even “ONE” hotel or a lodge to stay… We were riding for 3 hours now and after another hour we decide to book a ressort which costed us BIG. Well.. our accomodation had a PRIVATE POOL.. anyways.. We stay there.. Print our Admit Cards and go to the test centre wchich was 15 km away… and what the hell.. we find out that my friend actually had his APPOINTMENT DATE written as 7th of DEC.. Though his test was scheduled on 1st. After a while the authoroties accepted him and let him take the test.. but their question was ” If ur ADMIT CARD SAID 7th” How are u here today.. Well… what can we say.. did we get a mail stating that our test centre was moved.. YES. Did we get any mail as to our exam date has been recheduled?? NO. So… And BULLOCKS.. there were only “3″ candidated I REPEAT “3″. Bloddy what did they think… tht we would enjoy the sight seeing..??? or Love the RESSORT stay.. or like the smell of COW S**T laying all around the village??… or may be they actually thought that we would carry TENTS along with us and CAMP the previous night at the campus. What reason would probably let them send us there in there???

Anyways.. not to menntion the Journey back was also painfull as it was onward..

Now the WORST possible descession that CAT IIM is left to take is CANCEL CAT 2009. which it should have done the first day itself foreseeing such CONS in it.

Well…. Now that there’s no purpose cribbin abt it..

LUCK had a very less role in CAT till now..

I WISH ALL THE CANDIDATES WRITING CAT THIS YEAR “GOOD LUCK”… COZ WE REALLY NEED IT THIS TIME.

i’m in deep trouble………yestrday i reached my centre 2 take d xam n evrythng was going right….i started my test n attemted first question n 4 ds second qstn i was abt 2 click review button bt suddenly i dunno wht happen my comp screen pops dat ur xam has been finished…i jst feel as if my world is falling….invigilators kept me saying dat i must have pressed end button…….. i really can’t say wht really has happened bt i have given so many mock testes…hw can i do such a silly mistake……..wht sud i do now……i tried candidate helpine no. so many times bt all in vain……i’m really feeling very depressed….

I wrote CAT on 2nd December, Time 3.30 P.M in NEW DELHI .I would like to draw your attention towards Technical GLITCHES that I had to face during writing this test.

1. There was no WATCH on the top of question/TESTING page.
2. I can see only question not question-number on the screen.
3. In DI section there was one Graph missing in the question which based on multiple graphs. Pertaining to this problem I had to leave that question set completely.
4. I have a doubt that my answers were not submitted to server.

As there was no watch on my testing screen, I asked invigilator to fix this problem but instead of fixing that glitch he showed me a WALL-WATCH that was hanged on a FAR-AWAY wall, I was not able to see that while writing test.

Due to this three main problem I suffered a lot of mental agony while writing CAT, and I don’t consider it a MINOR technical glitches.
I request here to allot me a RETEST.

I am student of IIT Kanpur my name is rohit, given CAT on 29th, I would like to mention some facts
1.cheating in cat is too easy, as difference between you and person sitting next to you on both side is not more than 10-15 cm.so looking at the computer of person sitting next to you was very easy, also questions were totally same that amazed me,as I was hoping question of each and every student would be different, but question are same with only ordering is different, that mean my 1st question will be let say 40th question of other but what do you really think that ordering is enough, the person sitting next to me copy each and every answer of mine, he is writing answer of each question which I m ticking on his pad, and then when he himself came across that question he mark his answer, interesting is that after exam over he came to me and thanked me that if I m getting selected then he is also. Also there are no invigilators there, they are only sitting in the front, doing nothing and talking to each other in loud voice.
There was no sitting arrangement at my center sit any where you wish, two of my batch mates of IIT Kanpur sit side by side to each other, and what happened, one has done English first and other has done DI first, so that I time shortage occur they could see each other answers and they cross chk each and every question during the exam and no one should not be surprised if both got all iim calls with 99.99%ile.

CAT EXAM IS TOTALLY FRAUD THIS TIME

Hi to all CAT aspirants…

First of all, my regards to TIME director and team for taking initiative on behalf of all the students who have suffered injustice and impartiality …

i had given test on 1 dec. morning slot…as such not big technical glitches were faced by the students at our Test center…but at continuous intervals of 15-20 minutes some or the other student was facing automatic logging out problem with their system…our Test moderators were properly trained but their software was not…in the begining itself they warned us about the “END” and the “QUIT” button and also told tht we should not get panic if smthing wrong happens…we were told to jst raise our hand in case of any difficulty..

Now i wil come to the problems faced by the students..
1)after 25min into the test i automatically got logged out of the test wen i pressed “NEXT” button…i was scared as i thought i might have pressed “QUIT” button which is placed adjacent to “NEXT” button..
for 30 seconds i was in that shock…and ya the message which was displayed on the screen was “Sorry your test is terminated.Error no. 404(if i remember correctly) remote server not found…” Moderator came and logged in again…and test resumed…bt i lost my concentration due to this and gained my control only after 5 minutes..

2)as i have mentioned …every now and then somebody was shifted from his system to other system…due to some technical glitch…this not only resulted in the chaotic atmosphere and nervousness in the whole lab but also wen a student was asked to shift from his system to another system his whole Tempo for the exam disturbs and it takes some minutes to regain ur nerves…

3)coming to the question part….i think everyone wud agree that inspite of NDA…everyone is discussing the questions…if not in forums then on orkut and other social networking sites…and even on phones and chats!!! surely this is a disadvantage to students who appeared for the test in first few days or rather advantage for the students appearing in later slots….there is an added edge for the students appearing later as they have also come to know that questions are coming from previous CAT papers…

4)this point will clarify regarding the sure injustice on part of test takers on first 2 days….
(i) the students who went in first few slots had in their mind that difficulty level of CAT is pretty high and they shud act accordingly while distributing their time for different sections….in the process wen they attempted sections starting from DI (which was ofcourse lenghty)and VA…and wen they came to QA …they realised that they shud have given more time to QA as the section was easiest of all the three…but alas! they ended up only with avg attempt of 12-14 in all the three sections…bt as the days progressed their advice to all the candidates who appeared in later slots proved to be blessing…as they came to know that QA is easy and could be slogged..and VA is manageable with short passages and ….
thus we have seen the attempts shooting up to 50-55 with QA-15-17 and VA-15-18 ….and much cautious approach in DI-12-15…. i think this has given edge to those appearing later…

5)this point is regarding mismanagement in training the security staff and moderators at different test centre…. at my centre the moderators were well trained and sensible….bt i have come to know from my frnds that they faced a very disgusting experience at their center… my frnd told that at her center in bhopal girls were asked to remove all the jwellery items and keep in the lockers at their own risk…they were only allowed with ear-rings..they reported at the test centre at 8:00 am on 29th..but due to server crash their biometric could not be done and also test cud not be started…at around 1:30pm their test started and once they were given the entry inside the lab they were not allowed to leave the place..that is from 8:00am to 5pm they were in that torturing atmosphere…jst imagine the situation wen a student is ready to give his best at 10:00 clock and his test starts at 1:30pm and that too he must have woke up at 6:00 in the morning…this is too much…8hrs of mental torture for 2hrs 15min exam…
this shows the ill-trained staff or the guidelines of IIMs were not properly understood by the moderators…

i think this has really become a big ESSAY…but i think it summarizes the CAT and MOUSE game….

Online CAT is flawed.

Hi All,
Here are some of the flaws that I can find in the online CAT.

1. CPU Power Button is exposed: Commit to memory a few questions. Switch off the CPU in the middle of the test and start solving the memorised questions.
By the time the attendant gets the CPU up again, you’ll have solved these memorized questions. This way your test time no longer remains confined to 2:15 hrs rather gets increased by the CPU switch off time.

2. Questions being repeated: Though I do not have any solid proof but there are strong beliefs that the questions have been repeated especially on the 2nd day and between the two sessions on the same day. Also heard that the questions have been repeated from previous years’ CAT papers.
Moreover, many small academy teachers appeared in CAT on the first/second days just to know the questions and in turn help their students.

3. Cheating is easier: Screens of other test takers easily visible. The screens are so closely placed and partitioning so useles that you can easily see your neighbour’s screen without the examiner taking note of it. At my own test centre, I saw quite a number of times that fellow test takers were staring at other peole’s screens.

CAT should get back to Paper Pencil pattern or else find a remedy to these flaws.
In either case CAT 2009 should be re-conducted.

this one is my 2nd attempy n in d previous one i scored 92% ( without any serious prep ) so dis year i enrolled myself in one of the reputed coaching insti n prepared once again.but now i know dat its a very wrong decision nt because my preparations were not well but because the way this paper is being conducted this year.
my exam date was 4 dec n center at koparkhairane mumbai.i was alloted a pc which wasnt functioning well its pc no. is 01 in internet lab.gosh knows what had happened to the rest of the people who have taken their exam on the same seat in sum other schedule n worst part was that proctors were brazenly admitting dis thing that this pc has sum problem.whn they know the truth y they allot that m/c to me then to make the matter worst we have a power shutdown in between the exams for 10 min.which created a chaos in the room.cat people are telling that the exam is conducted in avry fair way this year…..well the partitioning was jus for god sake i guess.anyone ( neighbours )can easily c ur screen.cat claims dat they r recording every min of the exam well may be dats true but r they bothered enough to take alook on all of those recorded videos??????
also few days back precisely on 30 th dec an article was published in times of india ,mumbai about a lady who runs a coaching institute and has taken this exam on 2nd day.she claims that 3 question appears from cat 2008 so my question is isnt she going to divulge her test details to the students of her coaching institute.yeah i know that no q will appear again in the xam but there r sum students who actually know which kind ( n level ) of q are coming in d exam n at the same place there r students including me who cum clueless to the centres…is this the fair game?????n mind it i know sum of the branches of carreer launcher where it is mandatory for the faculty to giv cat every year in order to check wheteher ther r competent enough or not as per changing cat pattern so who will guarantee me that those people do nt share their xam contents withtheir students.
we went to our centre 1 hr 15 min before coz v hav heard dat some people were nt admitted as they came late.but we were nt provided any seating arrangement as the college is situated on a road so in such a hot afternoon we have no other place to sit. we have to stand on that busy road.even the college authority do not allow us to use their washroom in this time period.
so in short we were actualy very tired before giving dis xam.
also this year iim boast that jus becoz of online procedure not a single form has been rejected this year.if everything was alrite at the time of form filling y ther r sending mails now and have allowed edit button once again so dat candidate cn fill sum info again.it means they have accepted forms n send admit cards without proper checking of candi details.
yeah also its nt mandatory to have a look on the tutorial before exam so it happens that in my class few students including my neighbour do not take that tutorials n so they finished their paper before me.thay start talking after the completion of their exam…its nt d correct way n proctors have only one sentence to say dat “u knoe everything is being recorded?…..cat shud ensure dat all candidates shud complete their xam simultaneously…u know what whatever iim boast about this testing system the truth is dat the whole experience was very frustating one,i can only repent that y have nt taken admision last year.

Hi! I was suppose to take the CAT on the 28th of november, but due to the technical glitches my exam was cancelled.Till now i have not received my rescheduled test date, since the last date of the exam is the 8th, i am really worried. after hours of trying to get through the CAT helpline number they told me that my registration number is not showing any rescheduled test date as of now.
Can u guys please help me. i dont know how to contact the authorities in any other way.
Is anyone else facing the same problem??…HEEEELLLPPPPPPPPPPPP!!!!!

hi all….i took the cat on 3rd december (1st slot) n there was surely an error in the quants section. as per the guidelines laid by prometric CAT DEMO at a time only one question in quants is supposed to be displayed on the screen however in the middle of the section a point came when 2 different questions were displayed on the same screen and the options belonged to only one of them. i read both of them twice or thrice and wasted my time on it,realizing at the end that dey were actually 2 different sums. this is a confirmed news coz i have checked it with a lot of test takers, if the IIM people can retrieve the paper then they should do it, it will be clear to them that this is not a false claim. i have come across people who attempted one of them and could not find the relevant answer among the options but when they attempted the other sum they could click on one of the options. in this process a lot of people wasted their time on a sum dat did not fetch them ny marks……….another problem that is bigger than this n which should really make IIM contemplate a paper based retest is the unfair advantage obtained by some students. a friend of mine gave his exam in delhi and while he was giving his test all the computers just got shut down for close to 10mins. in these 10 mins he could see almost everyone working on his sheets coz we all know that when one solves the DI and quants section one writes down a lot of values on the paper and can easily solve questions with their help.u can actually recall a lot of small questions in quants. moreover these extra 10 mins of load shedding gave them the time to recheck their previous calculations on their sheets………..i request everyone to come out with their probs that dey have faced n help pagalguy n others 2 exhort IIM to condut a paper based retest..it will be really unfortunate for a lot of people if IIM doesnot do away with this online testing and conduct a nation wide paper based test in a month or so.

Hi all, I took my exam on December 4th. Luckily I didn’t have any trouble with the software or networks but the staff and facilities were horrible.

The test center and some of the staff were a total let down and were totally unprofessional. My test location was Sree Ramakrishna Engineering College Coimbatore. The college is in the outskirts and not close to the main road, in fact u have to travel a lot from the main road to reach the place.

The student volunteers there were very helpful. We were asked to wait in a room for an initial briefing. A guy came and told us that the photo ID card and your current appearance should match well; else he cannot allow us to take the exam and started giving explanations that if the card is older than 3 years there will be changes in appearance and he won’t be able to help. The option he gave in this case was to arrange for any other alternate photo ID card. I don’t understand how someone can come up with such a demand at 1.30 pm when the exam has to start at 3.30 pm. All most all competitive exams require u to provide some photo identification and I have never seen any one come up with such wild explanations. And driving license, PAN card and voters i.d are usually taken after 18 and definitely the quality of photo printed in it won’t be good enough but I don’t think this ever leads to a big issue anywhere.

What followed was that some candidates unofficially started asking him if their i.d cards were good enough and some candidates were asked to provide a different i.d. One girl became very tensed and luckily some other identification was available with her mom who had accompanied her. Next they started officially checking our photo i.d. I could hear that guy asking the guy before me stupid questions like what is ur name’s initial and what is the proof for ur fathers name !!!! and all … another guy had presented his college i.d. which was marked as duplicate as he had lost the first one but this too was provided by his college with seal. He had a tough time convincing these guys. Finally what were these guys trying to prove? their power? I gave my driving license as photo i.d and he couldn’t find any problem with the photo (well it is 5 years old). Next he asked where the emblem is. My driving license was issued by RTO in trivandrum and it differs between states. In mine the emblem is printed faint in the background like a water mark and text comes over it. I pointed this to him. He thought for sometime and then asked his colleague “Sir what is the other thing they stick in it?” … well he was referring to a hologram. Finally he concluded that it can’t be original without a hologram!!! When my driving license was issued there was no hologram in it. I told him this is from Trivandrum and probably you may be having holograms in Tamil nadu. So next his colleague started arguing that there is hologram in driving license from kerala too. By this I was convinced that these guys are unnecessarily coming up with arguments. Luckily since I had started directly from my office I was having my Office i.d. card and I gave this to them. This time he had no problem. But my office i.d neither has a sign from the H.R or my address or any other detail other than my photo, name and employee number printed on it. And it definitely didn’t have a hologram :) One guy after me was not allowed in till the last minute as according to them his face had considerably changed from that in his driving license. Well if he can be let in at the last minute why wasn’t he let in earlier?

The arrangement within the testing hall was pathetic … and what more… u need to remove ur shoes and socks to go in as if you are going inside a temple while the invigilators were walking around with shoes. The test area was very cramped. Whenever my neighbor or I moved in the chair, it would hit the next person’s leg. There were no separate cubicles for each candidate. Instead they had put card board partitions between monitors. One can easily see the others monitor. What is the point in having arrangements like this? And at one point, they were not able to login to the software in my machine and at least 4 of them tried entering the password again and again ….and the problem was that the login i.d. they had typed in was wrong.

During the exam they took the admit card and voucher before the exam and we were all asked to remain there till everyone finishes the exam. After this they returned the admit card and voucher….. still waiting ….. and what a joke …. They were having the admit card for over 2 hours and after returning it back we again had to carry it to them for them to note down the testing id. Even after the exam was over and everyone was impatiently waiting for about 40 mins to go out they were giving warnings like no talking in the exam hall …. Don’t make noise. It felt like a kindergarten all together.

There are lots of colleges within city limits here … why are they choosing these kind of colleges … at least put guys with common sense to conduct the exam.

Issue Faced: The data interpretation section had three sets of problems (2+2+4 questions in number) for which the data was incomprehensible. Their was a stack chart with the values on the axis missing, a line chart which required reading exact values, but the resolution and the image was too screwed up to be read; a puzzle in which the last sentence was not complete. I just attempted 10 questions, add to that the misery of pressure and helplessness.

Mathematics had 2 questions for which none of the answer options match.

there were some questions in quant which had wrong answers. It is quite certain that the answers were wrong because these were the simplest of sitters and getting to the correct answer for them didnt require much of calculations or fundas. what can be done about these questions? should they be reported to the iims??

my test has been rescheduled and falls on the day just b4 my engg exams with the test center as far as 2 hrs….also the CAT officials are not ready to accomodate me in a closeby test center…they say last moment changes are not aceptable….was it a last moment change frm our end or your end guys???? v should have options with the test date and venues when the fiasco and collapse happens from your end….u cant play with students per se!!!

My test was scheduled to be on 1st slot of Dt.06.12.09 at 10:00 AM at MH Saboo Siddik College of Engineering.
First of all only few of the computers were ready for exam and they were started at around 11:00 am one by one. So only few people could appear for exam. Rest of the people were told to wait and wait. I was one of the victim. The Guides/proctors have kept on telling to wait for another 1/2 an hour and we waitied till 1:45 PM then we were allowed to go outside to have lunch. Meanwhile the people who were able to take exam, finished their exam. And during this period people discussed about the questions and their answers. Those people who sat ideal for 4-5 hours cud also able to see the questions of the neighbour computers as there is hardly any obstruction between two computers and one can easily peep on neighbour’s computers.

Apart from this the testing facility was worst. Reasons:
1) Even if a person sits infront of computer for appearing exam, the adjacent computers on both sides are easily visible to him
2) Quality of pencil was very poor and few shrpeners were circulating throught out the whole lab

In view of the above mismanagement, computer problems,worst facility and cheating insipte of disclaimer this year’s exam should be cancelled and held as paper pencil based test.

I gave my CAT exam on 4th december at 3:30 pm.
During the exam, the system was not displaying the tables and graphs of the DI questions. I intimate the TCA (Test Centre Administrator), who told me to continue with the exam. After the exam When I asked him about the problem, he said that they are responsible ONLY for execution of the examination.
He told me to contact at the catiim.in site or to the Candidate Care Representative. When I called Candidate Care Representative, he told me to call one day later(as my profile wasn’t updated). Next day Again when I called him he told me that my paper has been submitted successfully. After explaining the above stated problem, he asked me to tell me ticket-id which was supposed to be given to the candidates who have faced problems during the examination(That too wasn’t given to me).
Then I went back to my Test Centre at 12:30 today(mainly for getting that ticket-id), and I somehow managed to made a conversation between TCA of my lab and Candidate Care Representative(Using my cell phone). Both of them have assured me that I will be rescheduled SOON. But NOT WHEN AND WHERE.
But even Till now, I have not received my new schedule. The only thing that I have received is ASSURANCE…….nothing else…..

I have taken CAT on 5th of December. The centre was IEM, Saltlake, Kolkata. First of all I did not find any question common from previous years CAT unlike the other students were posting or saying.

Secondly, this Prometric, I think just took that CAT contract for making some easy bucks and it seems they blow themselves in heavy gusts. I had a DI set which was colored and was blurred and I did not get it. And it was not that easy unlike the other days. So, apart from quant are the other sections are steadily becoming difficult? No idea.

In Quant question were worded erroneously. This is not expected from the IIMs.

English was damnn tough. All the three RCs.

I have read that all the IIMs but one are ready for a paper based retest. So what is the problem with that particualr one? Don’t worry. Your image has already got tarnished with the mess you people have done.

well then we must b missing some thin over here ..that the IIMs haven’t met their own guidelines!!!
I resd in their website that:
1. if ur pencil gets blunt or a broken-lead then it will be replaced with a sharpened one(and not to be sharpened)….

2. that ur computer will covered on the 3 sides i.e, from the front and left and right sides!!!!!well mine was not covered from the front ….the other candidate’s eyes met mine a lot of times !!!!

i was schaeduled to give cat exam at 4th of december and i have filled up a slot at tit bhopal but i was provided with a slot in calcutta at swami vivekanad institute of technology and managemen that is why i was unable to give the exam.so please kindly look up at my request and please reshedule my exam date at tit bhopal.

sir, this is to bring to your kind notice that my test was on 29th nov which was got cancelled and the next date which I got was after 5 days .. This was just the beginning of problems…finally I was allotted at AZAD institute of engineering and technology on 7th of dec… But when I started the test without my asking examiner started the test and I was not allowed to see the tutorial….. After that the real problem begins there was one case lets in which there was no questions to follow that case let. 2.. in another case let in was mentioned that the table give the sales, revenue etc of company but the table preceding it gave details of student of marketing, HR and finance and their salary etc.. After all these my got completely upset. Now I don’t know what to do…Please look after the problem of we the like students

iwish to draw your attention to the trauma that i had been going through for the last few days on acount of the negligence of Prometric and IIM authorities. I was scheduled to give my exam on 30th Nov that got cancelled and i was informed through a mail that we would be informed of our reschedule within 48 hours.eight days have passed since then. Now i got the news that students who have not been able to get reschedule dates will be informed of our new dates in 15 days.I have to go out of station and i would not be here after 15 days. Please bring this matter to light.

Many of us are exasperated with our CAT experience. Some had very genuine technical issues and some like me have apprehensions about our performance getting hampered because of many people getting extra time,repetitive questions giving an edge to many candidates etc.etc….

Now it is time for all who feel that CAT game was unfair for any of the reasons to go a step forward and help themselves to make IIMs know their problems.IIMs will definitely take into account these grievances.So go ahead …Here is a solution:-

To get redressal from Prometric and the IIMs submit an online complaint at http://www.prometric.com/IIM-CAT/contactus.

Fill up the online form and from the drop down menu that appears under ‘Subject’, choose the ‘I was not satisfied with the experience on the exam day’ option.In the ‘Questions or Comments’ text box put a request for re-conducting of your test with reasons due to which you could not perform satisfactorily in the test. The ‘Reasons’ should fall under one or more of the following heads:

· Ambiance (disruptions throughout the test that hampered your performance, large scale cheating, etc)

· Loss of time due to server issues or technical glitches

· Questions OR figures OR choices were not visible on the screen

· Frequent or constant disruption due to technological problems

· Compelled to submit your test before the stipulated time period because of technological or other issues

· Not being allowed to use features such as MARK/REVIEW

· Any other pertinent issue

Once you are done with the ‘Questions or Comments’ text box, copy-paste the content on to an e-mail and send it to the
directors of all the 7 IIMs.

hello,
my CAT was on 6th dec morning at pridarshini college NAGPUR. every thing was on time. my CAT also was going smoothly, untill i started my quantitative ability section in the last 45 mins.around six question were not displayed properly, one was missing the figure and others did not had all answer options. this was indeed a reason for my screwing the CAT quants.

allright.. i gave my exam on the 4th of dec. but i had to wait for 5 frikin hours to giv the test.. and thr was no drinking water or rest room facilities available !.. i sent the prometic guys a mail stating what had happened and requesting a re test (as we were supposed to fill the forms released by them).. and today they sent me a mail stating that no problems will be looked onto via the e mail.. wow now what drama is this.. this i downright UNFAIR man.. why shud i be evaluated after having waited (and standing) for 5 HOURS before the test.. and the staff treated us like street muck..!

I’m Rahul Dwivedi. I had to take my exam on Dec 1st but it got canceled ans was rescheduled for Dec 6th but on 6th I had other examination so I asked them to reschedule it after so many calls they said that they would reschedule it but when till 6th I didn’t get any response from them so I called again and they said you won’t be able to take test now and we can’t do anything in this case. I asked that then why have you written on your website that if exam clashes with other exam then it would be changed, he said we haven’t used the word GUARANTEE there, that was just a general thing. I was like WTF. Then I keep calling and fought them then however I got 8th Dec date and on 8th I reached to center by 8am which was reporting time(SRIMT, Lucknow) there. I had gone there from other sity and when I reached there I saw only students were there. No officials. We were standing in a queue till 12:15 around. After more than 4 hours we got entry and many students became ill. I too had so much headache as no food since morning and 4 hours in sun. Can anyone tell how a student can take examination with full efficiency in these conditions? Is this IIM all about? Who is responsible for all this? Is this Mr. Barua mean fair and good exam?

hiiiiiiii,i appeaerd on 2nd and my answers were getting changed.i noticed this when half n hour was left …while moving 2 next question my answer got changed .i corrected few but still not sure if i have submitted with correct answers

i had a horrible experience with this year CAT.Mine was on 6th 3:30 p.m.at BIT MESRA RANCHI.first of all they rescheduled my slot from 3:30 to 5 pm because some technical prob was going on in my lab.Very soon 2 hrs passed away n i was in front of system(S-10),i started tutorial n it started hanging up..i said them but the guy said that when u jump in to exam it won’t happen but the story continues whenever i click something it hanged n i was loosing approx 10 sec/click.finally one of the technicaql guy watched the whole incident n he shifted me from S-10 to S-33/34 so what i m suppose to be a machine who can perform with the same efficiency level regardless of whether u changed ur sysytem or not but unfortunately i m not a machine it had broken my consistency with the system + pressure had rose manifold …it screwed up my last half of an hour of exam ….so as it screwed up my paper.People over there provided me ticket or complain number
n said to call on student care number to check whether they rescheduled my exam or not …but still i m clueless

even if i was loosing 10 sec on per click there were 60 question so i lost 60*10=600 sec or 10 min . ho will pay for this 10 min ??
am i really suppose to roam while taking exam like CAT.It had certainly broken my concentration. does IIM know the value of concentration in ny walk of life .
if they think so then they should had rescheduled my exam .but it didn’t happen.

I took my CAT on 6th dec.I feel it was not fair for everyone like me who faced technical glitches..My system had hanged for half an hour before the test started and this was a major reason for me losing calm…Sometimes,the answers were not being recorded when I reviewed in the review section and I lost a considerable amount of time on this.
When only a few minutes were left and I was fretting to solve the questions in the time constraint,the system shut down and I had to restart again…All this caused a mess… some DI qstns were not at all clear with the values in graphs..this also consumed a lot of time…
IIMs should consider this..

I am from Raipur. My test center was in Hyderabad on 6th December. I arrived at Hyderabad on 5th evening. As soon as I reach there I got the news that Hyderabad is disturbed due to TRS demanding for Separate telangana and they are observing a 48 hours bandh starting from saturday night. I was completely disappointed after hearing this. The Test center was some 56 km away from Hyderabad and none of the local buses were operating up to that place and I have to catch district buses which is generally called ATSRTC. My test center name was Vidya Vikas institute of technology. Sunday I found that none of the buses are operating. I requested some of the auto drivers but as soon as I told that the location of my institute every one refused to go there because due to bandh there was scarcity of petrol. Because of this I couldnt write my exam on Sunday. I called the CAT care they were telling that yes the hyderabad is disturbed but we can not assure you that you will be given a second chance to write the exam. On Tuesday after the strike has been called off I went to the test center to check if they can allow me write a test. Prometric refused to allow me for test. They were asking if I have any sms or email regarding the new shedule provided to me. I called CAT center once again and registered by concern. Now I dont know If I will be getting a second chance to write CAT once again.

I took my test on 6th Dec at Ryat and Bahra Institute Chandigarh and a very strange problem happened during my test. I used to click on an option to mark my answer, the answer marker started jumping to all the options. I mean it started checking and unchecking all the options turnwise without getting fixed on the selected option. When I made a noise that something has happened there were people who attended to it but it freaked me out for a moment. I dont know if the answers I marked remained at the intended place or not. The attendants refreshed it or I dont know what they did. But it stopped after that. But the tension of this situation freaked me out and I think I missed out on atleast 3-4 que because It took me a while to calm my nerves. I took CAT last year as well, but this experience this time was horrendous!
I am concerned with the level of the paper that each student got. I heard that in the initial days the test was much easier as compared to those that came afterwards. I dont know how are they going to compare marks of every student when the test level each got was different. And now knowing that the GD/PI’s will be tougher is giving me goosebumps!

I wrote Cat on the last day last slot i.e 7th December 3.30 p.m at Acropolis institute Indore, in DI there was one case with missing data regarding revenue, expenditure and income of company .3-4 questions were based on the missing data, which could not be attempted at all. In one case the question itself was missing, so in all we were presented with just 15 questions to attempt.

i gave my exam on 6th dec, 3:30 slot…
the paper had two questions from lrdi sections with wrong answer choices thus reducing our total no. of questins and time (we wasted 5-6 fruitless minutes on them).our tests restarted after 10 minutes and it was after a long time that we (actually only a few of us)realized that the ques we had marked earlier were not marked automatically after the restart and thus they went unmarked for many students!. also the difficulty level was higher than that of previous slots.

overall, i would just say that cat09 was a luck game and not an aptitude test.. i agree that there was no fault of iim as it was a step taken for positive development but i wish that iim realize their unintentional mistake and take a retest so that only worthy students take admissions in top bschools..

Hi.. My name is Shivani Pandita. My test was on 5th Dec..I had been preparing for cat for this whole year.On D day,I was nervous but confident n all set to give the exam.I entered the exam center n exam started.I had planned to do the verbal section first but to my badluck Quant section was first on de display n as there was no way of jumping to verbal section i clicked on review button.. noticing that i jus hav to attempt the paper in the way its being diplayed..i tried to come back.. there wasnt any quit button on review window but to my surprise my paper got submitted after clicking end review button jus after 10 minutes..i totally panicked but still didnt realize wat had happend.. to to add to the agony..the invigilators n staff was so unsupportive. Acc. to them it was all my mistake n didnt let me go out till the paper end. Isnt it stupid..If they dont let you out of the examination center before exam end than wats the point of paper submission before time… Plus there were 2 buttons which submitted the paper..QUIT and END.. Arent we supposed to get confused. It was the worst experience of my life.To prepare for cat the whole year..n ultimately u aren’t evn able to give the exam.Im still waitin for a rescheduled exam..

Hey frndss something really disgusting happened in this CAT 09 exam.I mean i just cant understand HOW IS IT POSSIBLE ???? I WASN’T allowed to give exam this year. My scheduled for 29th Nov and then it was canceled and neva was rescheduled again. I contacted the customer care and they said it will be rescheduled for 2nd Phase of 30 &31 jan but my admit didnt arrived and i contacted again and now they say my doesnt appear on the LIST of eligible candidates for RETAKE and worst part is I DONT KNOW WHY i cant GIVE???

Can anyone suggest me or help me out?? What should i do now ???

gathering from the experiences of others out here, I guess something really strange and wierd happened with me. My CAT was on 3rd Dec afternoon slot and it was completely error free. I mean, how could the IIM’s do this, everyone faced problems , their patience, problem solving techniques, creative thinking skills, etc were tested whereas I was tested only on quant , di & va. This is unfair to me !

I demand a retest with all the problems included !

My point is , we should stop being kiddish and accept this as part of life. Someone somewhere wrote a story which I repeat giving all due credit to the person whose name I do not recall.

Once a big company was recruiting and received hundred of resumes for interview. The boss asked his secretary to select 20 which he shall interview and the rest be rejected. The secretary , a dilligent and hardworking lady, set out to divide the resumes on various factors, rate each one of them , scrutinize them carefully when the boss appeared. He said that this process will take way too long , just select the first 20 resumes and I will interview them. The secretary objected, “But Sir, that will be unfair to the other applicants. This way only the lucky ones will be interviewed and the unlucky ones left out” The boss said, “Well ! We certainly don’t want any unlucky people in our organization, do we?”

So puys , leave apart the IIM bashing which reminds me of the Indian government of 60’s – 80’s which used to blame everything on foreign hand and stop blaming iim’s for every nitty gritty problem of your life.. life is tough..accept it…face it…and win over it…
